Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

I defiantly agree, but I can still see where the people who are worried are coming from.

People need to be a bit more positive and carefree. Roll the dice. If you care about the project then prove it. If you don't have faith or can only be cynical or sceptical how do you expect publishers to get behind it? That's what Kickstarters are like this are for - a show of support.

Worst that happens if you just back the $28 tier is that you lose $28 spread across approx 2 years.

My issue with the publisher thing is first and foremost that I don't buy the official reasoning for it. IGA has to use Kickstarter to prove a publisher that is potentially willing to invest 4 million that there's actual demand for the game ? Come on. Everyone who follows Kickstarter and the gaming community knew that a new Igavania game is the kind of game that would meet its funding goal on the first day. The Kickstarter pitch could have been a single line saying "A new Igavania coming 2017 to PS4, Xbox One and PC" and it still would have been funded without a problem. And a publisher willing to invest millions doesn't have this amount of insight or the capability to do a little market research?

Publishers are really, really playing it safe this gen. They probably squirmed when knowing this is not a mobile project. They would pull every data available to show that they should fund an F2P mobile game instead. Thus the task of proving Igavania has an audience willing to pay premium lies on Iga himself. Kickstarter has been seen as a validation tool from many Publishers.

Yep went ham, $150 down which is the most I've ever done for a Kickstarter, that hard cover art book just can't deny

I'm sadly being pulled into the same thing.

I guess these 60 hour workweeks with OT are paying off. (literally)

Hell I might even wait and go for $250. I really, honestly believe in this project.

If this really is about proving demand to a successfully wooed publisher, all accusations of potential shadiness could have been cleared in advance by simply setting the lowest possible donation to the price of the digital copy (and maybe mentioning that the game was basically already funded on the Kickstarter page). At the moment there are only 151 donations for eternal gratitude, so it's hard to be upset about it. Still, appearance is important.

Giving a Developer DATA to use in publisher negotiations is the most valuable thing of all. It's the kind of thing that can ensure even future projects by giving investors some safe numbers to hide behind. (As we know, businessmen are all cowards)

I'm always negative about the things I actually care about. That way if I'm wrong it will be a pleasant surprise instead of a disappointment. Positivity as a consumer will let you down more often then not.
I also am putting $250 into this just because of my love for boxes though.

I just blew my monthly budget on Mortal Kombat. Will the kickstarter definitely run for all 32 days? Can I put up cash in like two weeks or is there a chance it'll close?

IGA can handcraft rings? That's pretty awesome. I have high hopes for this, it looks so much fun~

No one's gotten the ring or dinner tiers yet though. D: I'm sure someone will soon.

Even if it closes before you are able to get money for this, the PayPal should still go on for a bit.

Michiru Yamane was just on the stream talking about how excited she is working with IGA again. Man I can't to hear what she comes up with.

They never close early unless they're cancelling it (in which case you wouldn't be charged). You can do it today if you want, they don't charge until the end.

I wonder if so many of you can see the forest for the trees when you complain about the publisher deal...you're not investors or business partners, but we are getting a bonafide Metroidvania with Yamane music thanks to having a secure-enough funding source and professionals in place to make it! Now, all we need is a legit Classicvania clone.

To be fair the rings don't really look like anything special. Looks like stuff you can get for cheap at a convention or festival. The appeal of them is from him being the one to hand make it I guess.

Dammit I really want the physical version but the immortal gratitude is only available on the 5 bucks tier.

Sorry, don't know why I did that.

anyway, awesome looking game, was waiting for another Castlevania esque side-scroller since Order of Ecclesia and this seem to fit the bill, definitely in for the physical edition.

Already funded? Well that was quick. I would've imagined that people are sick of seeing Castlemetroids on Kickstarter at this point. :P

Fun pitch video too. Good stuff.

Whoa whoa whoa

Shadow Complex PC version?

The guy from Chair said they are looking into bringing it to more people, and then specifically mentioned PC. He also kinda sorta maybe implied that they'd use it to gauge interest in a sequel.

Her stuff in Skullgirls was good too.

Well, those are just mockups or w/e. Whatever it'll look like will probably be much different. (oops @ sizing thing) lol

Just for your information: Inti Creates aren't the main developers behind Mighty No. 9 - Comcept (Inafune's studio) is. They are just the contract worker Comcept got for the game.

Inti Creates is a good company and has made a lot of great games. Blame Comcept's incompetence if you have to.

Inti Creates IS the main developer. Comcept is a lot like Mistwalker in that its role is of a planner, which is why all of the projects it has worked on are collaborations. The actual talent doing most of the lifting is the partner studio, in this case Inti.

Better yet, think of Comcept's role like Miyamoto's at Nintendo: a producer who makes some key input but leaves the project well enough alone otherwise.

yeah i'm not getting it either. at the very minimum, you're parting with $28 and getting a videogame. that the game was mostly funded before it needed crowdfunding to "prove" it's viability doesn't change that the game exists (or will) and that you paid a fair price for it.

the alternative is no Kickstarter and no game and you save $28 and continue wondering why they don't make IGAvanias anymore.

I wish there was a digital tier with the backer exclusive stuff in it :C
same, it's the first thing i noted. they could probably entice even just a few more backers with a $40-$45 tier with exactly that content.

wait, so who is the developer behing mighty number nine? comcept or inticreates? are inticreate just programming people for that game?

Also, who is the director for bloodstained? Iga himself? or one of the inticreates people.

I am thinking all backers are going to get that backer exclusive stuff somehow... though I wonder how they'll implement it. Do they usually provide backer-only DLC codes or something?

Though as for things like the soundtrack and 'strategy booklet', there usually are digital alternatives as well. Surprising to not see one here. Maybe a new tier will be added soon.

Next stretch goal should be different costumes :C

It makes sense, but they specifically mention this content in the other tiers, just not in the $28 one.

I think they're usually DLC codes, yeah.

I'll choose to believe this
