I'm still not sure what the problem in that is though.. I mean, the problem these days is that we dont see enough variety AA games.. Its either AAA huge budget EA/Activision games or small indies. Kickstarter might be helpful for AA games no? For example, I kickstarted Amplitude but it makes me sad that it will be digital only and because of that will sell way less as if this was in stores. The same goes for Bloodstrained etc..

"Indies" are AA. NMS, Rime, Witness, Ori etc are just a step or two away from the AAA space. Those all cost quite a lot of money to make.
 
Here is my thinking going into E3 at this stage.

Will Sony have a replacement for the holiday season now that Uncharted and Ratchet are delayed?
No. No new AAA game from Sony. No 3rd party moneyhat to fill the gap. No Uncharted Collection. They will however position No Man's Sky as their headline game for the holiday. I bet this E3 is yet another poor showing from Sonys WWS for people wanting AAA games from them in the next 12 months.

What will the big show closers be?

Sony will be VR heavy for the last 3rd and we will get a morpheus release month and maybe price but when Andy House is doing the closing speech it will end on a God of War teaser trailer that will be short and anti climactic like last years Uncharted 4 teaser
MS will close on Fallout.

Will Microsoft have another 3rd Party AAA moneyhat?
Yes. In fact I think they will have 2. And I got a hunch Mirrors Edge 2 will be one of them

What will Ubisoft's bullshit fake demo be this year?
Beyond Good and Evil 2. Ancel is half out the door as is. I guess that game will get shown this year or not at all.

Will TLG show up this year?

No but I look forward to Shu's annual "Ueda is working really hard on it" line to IGN

Anything cool at the 3rd party shows?
Seems like its going to be a great E3 for RPG lovers. Fallout and Mass Effect seem like a lock and maybe Square has more FF HD remasters to show.

The Blizzard F2P shooter will probably get announced for Consoles. Maybe Epic will finally commit to a release window and console version for Fortnight as well.

Yes, Sony rented a 16.000 seat venue and celebrating 20 years of Playstation just to announce nothing and spend 40 minutes on VR which is un-demonstrable on a stage.

Also, MS will definitely show (moneyhat? nudge nudge wink wink) Fallout 4, even though for the first time (ever?) Bethesda got their own stage and presser on Sunday.

I disagree with every single statement by funkystudent aside from TLG not showing and it being a good show for RPG fans. I don't know much about Fortnight, so no opinion on that one.

I don't get the Nintendo response. A lot came out of their Digital Event last year (First Zelda showcase, Clay Kirby, Mario Maker, Splatoon, Devil's Third, Mario Party 10 announces, new Smash characters confirmed).

Also, with MS saying it's focusing on first-party and Bethesda having its own presser, I don't think they're gonna close on Fallout 4.

Here is my thinking going into E3 at this stage.

Will Sony have a replacement for the holiday season now that Uncharted and Ratchet are delayed?

Sort of. I expect at least one game expected this Summer to get pushed back because it's not ready to release, though adding to the holiday lineup is a side-effect. I don't expect anything major though. I don't think neither GT7 nor GoW4 is ready for the holiday, though it's probably for the best. Instead, I expect an announcement of a price drop to $299, though at Paris, not E3. GOWIII:R will probably be the perma-bundle candidate once TLOU:R has run it's course. Japanese games will be in large supply but those will be largely ignored by the mainstream (._.)

What will the big show closers be?

Most people have been saying that Horizon was likely to show this year since it was pulled from last E3. I only expect 1 megaton from Sony's E3 and 1-2 from Microsoft. I think Horizon will be the big closer, though GT7 or GoW4 may rear their heads depending if they're feeling adventurous. Microsoft, I don't think Fallout 4 will be it, since Bethesda has their own conference. My best guess is that the new Gears will be teased as the closer. Halo 5 has already been announced, and Crackdown seems too far away.

Yes, though I don't think they'll reveal it at E3, considering the negative reaction the ROTTR got at Gamescom. What it is, no clue.

What will Ubisoft's bullshit fake demo be this year?

AC Syndicate, no doubt.

Will TLG show up this year?


No. I expect a lot of outrage from the no-show, too. It will be funny to watch.

Anything cool at the 3rd party shows?


Seems like its going to be a great E3 for RPG lovers. Fallout and Mass Effect seem like a lock and maybe Square has more FF HD remasters to show. JRPG presence will be at Sony & Square's shows and maybe something cool might come out of the PC Gaming show, I dunno. 4chan will be all over that one.

Nintendo?

I expect one of Star Fox & Metroid to be revealed, though Star Fox is more likely. After the World Championships, more DLC fighters will be announced for SSB4. Roy? Ryu? I dunno. I also expect a few 3rd party titles, more amiibo lines, the amiibo card series, and a few more fun things.

Konami will continue to be hated.
The PC Gaming show will be mediocre at best.
Indies indies indies.
Something Persona 5 related will show.
Joe Montana 16 will pop up. Dunno about the licensing. I bet they'll have it, since the game will bust without it.

The general tone of 'underestimating Nintendo' seems to be a thing just because they said Zelda won't be at E3.

If anything, that statement only makes me more excited for their Digital Event.

I don't get the excitement about a new Shenmue. I mean, the game was revolutionary at the time but at present day we have games that improved the formula like the Yakuza series.

Meh it matters not. Personally my hope for Shenmue pales in comparison to my burning desire for Phantasy Star. I sincerely hope Sega addresses the unacceptable lack of Phantasy Star on current gen before they go and do anything as silly as resurrecting Shenmue.

Touché. But I would argue the continued existence of PSO makes it all the more reasonable to expect its continued presence and further development in the current market as opposed to a series that hasn't seen a new entry for the last 10 years. Perhaps my heart has just hardened with a decade of salt and broken dreams.

I don't know about an OT, but I will post my bingo template in versions for all of the press conferences plus a generic one for all E3. Been having some problems finding the new E3 logo in vector format, so that has delayed things.

Agreed 100%

Shenmue has aged as poorly as the early PS1 and N64 libraries. If a collection ever saw the light of day, we would see countless posts on Gaf from disappointed first time players saying stuff like, "This game isn't good." "Is this it?" "What's so great about this?"
 
Does anybody else foresee one of Bethesda's big surprises some weird publishing deal? They had that period where they were publishing a lot of weird games (Wet, Rogue Warrior, etc.) and I can see them putting out something they think is cool.
 
My E3 Predictions:

- Sony has no games and everyone cries.

- Microsoft announces games, but still loses E3 because people are mad about Sony's E3.

- Nintendo keeps being Nintendo.

- Sega shows up out of nowhere and announces Dreamcast 2

Not really. They'll have the Uncharted Collection along with Until Dawn and some smaller stuff like The Tomorrow Children and Shadow of the Beast but nothing that big. They'll want to make No Man's Sky their big exclusive but it'll get pushed to 2016. The big focus will be on third party games.


What will the big show closers be?


MS will close with a Gears 4 teaser, that's guaranteed. I don't see God of War 4 showing up so soon since I think it'll be a March 2017 title. I can see Sony ending the show with Horizon. I think that will be Sony's big Holiday 2016 game. Bethesda will close with Fallout 4. EA will close with Visceral's Star Wars Game. Ubi will close with something prerendered.

They'll have something but nothing as big as Tomb Raider. Only one I see them getting is Joe Montana 2016.

I'm standing by my Open World Splinter Cell prediction. Ubisoft sees how much buzz MGS5 is getting and they want in on that. The demo will look amazing but then the game will be downgraded and turn out to be a third person shooter with the option of stealth all brought together by the Ubisoft Open World Formula (towers everywhere). If this doesn't happen then Watch Dogs 2. I think it'll be teased at least regardless.

My answer was a definite no up until a few days ago when that one person posted in the Sony thread. Now I don't know what to believe anymore. I really want it to show up but it probably won't :(

Yes, Bethesda will have the best show out of everyone with the combo of Doom, Dishonored 2, and Fallout 4. EA's show will be last year's but with actual gameplay of their games. So a mix of stuff GAF will go crazy over and the usual sports games with the words 'feeling' and 'emotion' said after every other word. Ubisoft will have a typical Ubi conference except people will trust them less than ever.

Nintendo?


They'll either have an amazing showing or completely bomb. I think Punch Out is guaranteed at this point. Hopefully we get news about Metroid and Paper Mario. Animal Crossing U is a possibility. Smash DLC is likely. Hopefully they won't spend more than a few minutes on Mario Maker. And hopefully Star Fox looks good and makes 2015.

Valve will announce L4D3. It has to happen eventually.

Fallout 4 and Rare's game announcement will temporarily break GAF but not as badly as in the past. The Last Guardian, if it is shown, will destroy GAF.

Don't think Shu has ever tweeted about TLG. Every time they get asked about the game they say it's still coming. When IGN said it was canceled before E3 last year, Sony assured us it was still alive.
