$5000 a minute for the past 5 hours. I think it's safe to assume that this will keep up and this thing will easily pass $200,000,000

I never played Shenmue before but I will back this up because that was an amazing reveal. I'm really happy for all the people who can finally see their wait come to an end and their dreams come true.

Just woke up and watches the Sony presser, I was like whaaaat, why won't my screen take the money I'm throwing at it.

The 160$ tier looks good to me.

I don't want to be greedy but let's be greedy here. I hope Yu doesn't rush the story and tries to wrap everything up in 3 (thinking this is his last chance). With the support of his fans it should be no problem to make Shenmue 3,4 and 5 :-P This is only a new beginning Yu.

I think.. there's 30 days Shenmue will have in its run. Sega/Sony/Yu have to start thinking HD rereleases. Title them classics or something, so as not to deflate potential hype, then build it up from there like any other game and bring the mechanics to modern. If not that, then HD rereleases and this is a one off to get out there.

Either way it should be great. It would be great if Sony said some proper congratulations to Shenmue when it passes. Yu's such a boss

I dont follow kickstarter games that often so can someone explain something to me. I'm a huge Shenmue fan but the kickstarter video looks bad and voiced terribly. Should that be of some concern or not.
It's easy to buy in to the hype but just because its a Shenmue 3 kickstarter doesn't give it a pass if its looking bad.
Being a game I truly love I don't just want a Shenume 3 game I want a great game worthy of being a sequel to Shenmue 2. Nevertheless I'll back it. :P

Placeholders.

Scripts will be in Japanese, voiced by some of the original voice actors.
I can't imagine the models and animation being anything else than quick test material either.

I would agree that the material from the trailer is rather bad. They should indicate this is just test material and nothing definite if that's the case.

A small group of people seem very willing to part with their money. Will 2 million really translate to demand for the game?

It's going to raise more than 2 million though.
And even still, demand aside, it's funding a portion of the game so the people paying the rest don't have to pay as much.

Will Ryo kill Lan Di, or will he find it in his heart to show him mercy?

Wait is this going to be the ending to Ryu's story? I thought Yu Suzuki's intent was for it to be a multi-part saga not unlike a manga and he had story mapped out for Shenmue 3,4,5,etc. rather than just tie everything up nicely in a trilogy. Considering the reaction Sony and Sega should just pay to have him finish the saga and give him the space he needs to tell the story rather than stifle the creativity.

It's at over $1.5 million already... is that the fastest funding on Kickstarter ever? (EDIT - I see this was asked above). My guess is that, like Bloodstained, if the Kickstarter can hit that goal then a publisher (Sony, presumably?) will give Suzuki a big bagload of money to help with development (pulling numbers out of my arse, I'd guess about an extra $10 million).

But there must be a Shenmue 1 & 2 HD port though, right?! I mean, there just has to be. The series has never been on PS before, so really they need an HD port to bring people up to speed. I mean, I'm kind of interested in this but I've never played the series before (excluding about literally 10 minutes of Shenmue 2 on Xbox), so I feel like I need to at least have the option to play the first game to get up to speed.

Legendary E3 so far, I can't wait to finally play a Yu Suzuki game again, dude to me was even bigger than Miyamoto during my childhood, not having owned a NES (Super Famicom was my first N console) since I was a Commodore dude back then before getting a Megadrive but I was super big on going to the arcade basically every day and there SEGA and Yu reigned supreme.

Two questions tho:

•surely I'm not the first to notice Ryu's fucked up face model in the concept-footage? Ok, ok, is not even pre-alpha stuff but I still don't understand why the made him so plain looking and nothing like Ryo is, WTF??

•so what SEGA's deal? Are they licensing Suzuki's company the Shenmue brand for free (lol)? I find it weird the Kickstarter doesn't mention anything regarding how they're dealing with the licensing issues we've all always though prevented Y.S. from going solo with the project. Maybe Sony's footing that bill if (when) the game's fully funded?

I don't mean to be disrespectful to the creators but I wish YS went with a better firm to handle this Kickstarter.
Frankly it all looks VERY, VERY amateurish and barebones, the tiers are imo wrongly composed and in general it all seems like a lot of wasted of potential, especially compared to the latest high-profile kickstarters.

Pitched in my $29. Too bad there's no physical copy for the PS4. Now I need Shenmue 1+2 digital. Would like to see it as a stretch goal.

Am I the only one thinking it is incredibly cheap of Sony to not fund Shenmue 3 on their own?

This isn't really funding. This is them using kickstarter to gauge interest. Whoever is funding apparently has reservations about doing so unless Yu Suzuki can prove there is a substantial demand for his title. Earning $2 million instantly within hours of announcement makes Shenmue 3 look like a sure winner.

I'm guessing that the unorthodox method of funding means this title is going to get a big budget.

Sega has been saying for a while they are open to Yu Suzuki making another Shenmue so long as he funds it himself.

No retail for consoles, equals Not backing it for me!

I'll wait for a few more stretch goals to appear, expecting:
  1. PS4 & Xbone Retail editions.
  2. Shen-mu 1 & 2 full game compilation.
Once/if those stretch goals appear, I'll back it!

Will Ryo kill Lan Di, or will he find it in his heart to show him mercy?

Mercy of course.

Man, naysayers still around huh ?

I wish I remembered the names of those who kept saying they hoped this would get kickstarted just to prove there was no interest in a new Shenmue with the funding failing miserably..

This is amazing but for the love of everything that's holy, I hope they hire proper voice actors. The voice acting in the video on the kickstarter page is extremely painful listening.

I don't know who really holds the IP of Shenmue. It's amazing to see it made without Sega so remasters/ports should be possible. Bluepoint Games to the rescue.

How the hell do people approve of this kickstarter BS for a game being introduced at E3? This will become a new trend that people will blindly defend.

They should get Quantic Dream to assist with the character models or something.

This is Yu Suzuki. Remember how insane VF5 looked when it first released? I think they'll eventually bang out some awesome character models.

I think what we're seeing here right now is something built without any budget at all.

A small group of people seem very willing to part with their money. Will 2 million really translate to demand for the game?

For every one person willing to donate money, there is at least a hundred that are interested but won't donate for various reasons. It won't always translate into success (remember Ouya?) but it can measure interest and demand.

Will Ryo kill Lan Di, or will he find it in his heart to show him mercy?

Of the bits of the story we know, it's known that Ryo eventually abandons his quest to kill Lan Di in part of taking on a greater overall story.

That's the crazy thing about shenmue - everything we've seen thus far has been the very beginning. We haven't even really gotten into the main story yet.

How much do you guys think this game will get? I'd be straight up disappointed if it didn't get at least $10m by the end of it. I mean Star Citizen got 77m.

So how many Shenmue sequels are needed to cover the whole story =)

Star Citizen got $2.1 million on kickstarter. It got the rest through donations on it's own site over the years.

$10 million is a lot of money to raise in a kickstarter.

Shenmue will sell well in this day and age.

Firstly Sony know how to market their games right unlike Sega. Plus there are a lot people who missed out on it and been wondering what the fuss has been about these past 10 years, who will likely pick it up.
