Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

You'd be surprised. Day Z was bad in that respect. 7 Days to Die was just.

I'll quote a few things I've said of it the past week, but it's repetitive:

I'll happily give a breakdown based on it, though.

1. Crafting. Oh boy. Too bad supplies are scarce and no matter how many cars, trash bags, and boxes you raid, you probably won't be able to craft what you need to, and that's even with drops being more frequent. It only gains depth when you figure it out, anyway, as they don't have a beginner walk through of any sort in regards to crafting.

2. The online. The online. Can we not. People take the fun out of this when you constantly find your base being hacked. No pity whatsoever there. It's an every man for himself sort of world. The "hacks" aren't limited to this however, people have been known to increase their attack damage, reduce the defence of others, choose their spawn spots instead of it being random. Some are clever enough to set your ping low enough you can't tell there's a hacker present that minute. This is if you're on an open server, mind, and my impression is >October 2014. I don't think they've worked on anticheat since then.

3. By above merit, PvE is fine, I guess. You don't come across that issue just playing co-op with a few friends, but your friends aren't always going to be available to play. It gets boring then, anyway. There's only 1 map, though it's huge, but even online it's difficult to come across people with how massive it is if you're playing fairly. It's a fairly barren map, too.

4. The zombie AI is dreadful, so if you were looking for genuine scares from them, you won't get that here even at highest level. Their movements are obvious, you can get away really easily, even if they're just a few paces away. It's almost like they're oblivious to your existence. Weird for a survival game. The combat is subpar, as well.

5. Early game is a bitch. End game, though, ha. Suddenly you're an OP wonder, with all these unlocked skills. At that point, you don't even need a base for anything. It's repetitive though. Collect, craft, build, repeat.

Pity. I always like supporting "the little guys", but I think this is one of those I'd regret unless I can pick it up in a Humble Bundle or for $.99 someday just for shits & giggles. Thanks for the detailed breakdown, you truly went beyond the call of duty & saved me having to utilize the refund policy.

Sooooo...now my thoughts are on Project Zomboid...any experience with that one? It seems to review better on Steam...but that's not necessarily a slam dunk...

PSA: Mini Metro's base price will become higher after it leaves Early Access. Might be smart to buy now despite only 25% off. I will because it's supposedly very good.

Mmm. No purchases so far (my media is of 1-4 titles per sale). A friend gifted me Tomb raider (2013) + DLC, but overall there's nothing that attracts my attention. Whenever I think about getting something in the end it is like "But I already have enough games for the whole summer, and there will always be something on sale"

I guess I am immune to crazy sales now. Either that, or that I am too scared about the thought of developing backlog syndrome again.

Ok guys only one question, I need Project Zomboid? I love survival games, i love Dayz [And i know it is heavily inspired by Zomboid] and this games literally catch me with the tons of fantastic hardcore features that are already there. What about the early access development and the 1.0?

So, how is the PC version of Trials Fusion? I remember a lot of complaints after the launch (mostly about performance and uPlay IIRC), did they fix the game at any point?

I would counter-point some of the comments on 7d2d though they are fair points from his perspective. I have enjoyed the game. but it is rough around the edges. There is a great deal of stuff there though. Its not about running naked endlessly through the woods like that other game.

With crafting I would say you should go in with the recipes known and with a plan for what you need. I would not consider the needed materials as rare, but on day one I would not think you have the time to get them all. Certainly if you have never played the game before it is not friendly to the noob trying to survive. If you read a day one how to it would be helpful.

Point 2 about online is pretty accurate. As with almost every online game, random server pickup is going to be a cluster. Seems like the avg player there is 12, and the hacks run rampant. But if you do play with people you trust - and there are closed servers out there you can get into - it is a fun experience. I am sure there is a thread where Gaffers can tell you where to hang.

For the third point, there is random map generation now and that really added to the experience. The game is "Alpha", but it consistently evolves in a good way. There is a definite design road map apparent, as the features they add seem really effective. Every major release feels like a new game in a good way.

Yeah, Zombie AI sucks. they have added a few things like wall climbers, but there is stupid stuff like you can secure your base with a ladder on square up and such. I am sure over time they will address stuff like that.

I can see where it may not be someone's cup of tea - you might watch a let's play or two before doing the refund if you are on the fence. As a dev shop, these guys are good indies.

Is it me, or this summer sale is complete shit?

There's a lot of really good niche stuff so far. I think that between stuff like those hilarious GTAV 'sales' and the general lack of decent prices on AAA crapola some people might be less interested, but I've picked up a half dozen niche titles at their historical lows.

Always happens. Once you have amassed enough games, each subsequent sale cannot possibly live up to the last.

This is the best sale Valve has done in years. Since you have the majority of your must have titles, you are not seeing it from the same perspective ad someone new to the platform.

I got a total of 25 cards from that purchase and I still can't craft the goddamn badge.. Holy shit.. Hahaha Im still missing two.

Guys. Has any human being actually examined the Dead or Alive store page?

The DLC costume packs are like 60 or 70 or more dollars each.
It's fucking ludicrous.

I wish I had seen your warnings earlier. I will say it does have a nice system to locate friends which is sometimes difficult in survival games, but everything else was so poor I was sick of it in an hour. Maybe in a few years it'll be good but its got a long long way to go and I'm doubtful it'll ever be worth my time.

I agree. Some big name titles have poor discounts, but if you know your prices, there are some damn good deals.

I really only had fun in 7D2D when it was just one friend and I.

I still have to try project zomboid multiplayer. I don't know anybody with it.

Still waiting on Dragonball, REmake, Strider dailies or flash deals. Come oooooooon.

Nice! Lords of Xulima is on the mini-game deals, let's hope for a 50-60%

Xulima has been 50% a few times, anything more than that would be pretty close to a historical low.

Also, this is one game where I think the "fluff" DLC (The Talisman of Golot) is extremely beneficial to playing the game. It has some features that really smooth out some aspects of the game. Players used to a more forgiving CRPG experience might want to pick it up as well if it is less than a US dollar or so.

Also, game is incredible.

Valve said they weren't going to be at E3 at all, then randomly showed up at the Microsoft conference.

Did they show up, or were they just pointed out by MS when talking about supporting OpenVR on the Xbox?

I don't even care what else goes on sale, I'm thrilled to have gotten Grey Goo for $20. This game is great.

I totally missed this steam sale. Is dragonball xenoverse on sale yet?
Just read the post above mine. It seems that we are waiting for the same games. Dragonball and strider.

I'd say most people who think this sale is crap has just bought everything they really wanted over the past few sales.

I picked up RPG Maker VX Ace and that's it so far. Have everything else that interests me.

Sorry if it has been asked numerous time, but Daily Deals will be returned during Encore, right?
I plan to get some games as gift, but I think I better wait until the Sale ends and I see what left in my wallet.

Not all of them, only some.
I see. Thanks!

Is it me, or this summer sale is complete shit?

Sale is nice but I own so many games so the impact of the deals is low for me. My brother however just picked up a laptop capable of playing games and this is his first steam sale. He picked up a few games and is happy!

This monster clicker thing though is the worst thing Valve has ever done for a sale. I can't waste my time on that garbage.

That's weird, thought Dragon Age II was only on Origin? I suppose they meant to use a DAO cover? Anyway, nothing happens when you click on it.
