Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

Just bought deus ex:HR and I don't care for stealth a whole lot but I've heard great things am I mistaken?

It's an excellent game, and you're not locked into stealth if you don't like it. It's one option and usually one you're led to, but you generally have plenty of other options to deal with missions.

Wondering if I should get Alice: Madness Returns, 5 hours left on the sale and its under $5.

The visuals looks amazing despite dated imo, should I get? How's the gameplay? The story (or lack thereof)?

Played State of Decay YO for ~10 minutes. Immediately didn't find it very fun. Would definitely have benefited from a cooperate mode. :(

It may just not be your type of game. However, I'd recommend giving it a week or so & play it more. It might click for you. For me it's been one of my favorite games over the past couple years, certainly my "GOTY 2013" (although I didn't start playing the original release until just a couple months ago). I have more hours on Steam than any game except Dungeon Defenders and despite a few niggling issues in the original release (apparently the YOE has more bugs, not less) it's easily my all time favorite survival horror or zombie themed game.

If it doesn't click for you after giving it a solid 10-15 hours over the next few days then the nice thing is Steam has a refund policy now.... I'd say it takes at minimum 5-10 hours for the game to open up & then if you like the mechanics it gets insanely addictive & has moments of incredible tension/dread/suspense as you sneak around trying to find supplies while avoiding detection by hordes & special infected. I've had dozens of "by the skin of my teeth" moments that are simultaneously horrifying & make you feel a sense of accomplishment if you make it out alive. And, for when you don't make it out...the perma-death adds an element to the gameplay that while frustrating for some (it pissed me off at first) gradually grows on you if you stick with it. As certain characters die you realize that you're playing/telling a different story to a certain degree with new characters...so it makes a 2nd or 3rd playthru potentially quite different....

EDIT: I do agree, however, the game would benefit greatly from co-op.... At times the game does feel almost like a "proof of concept" idea.... Which, as more info comes out about the inevitable State of Decay sequel being co-op &/or online MP, is exactly what it is. Regardless, its one hell of a ride if you get into it. :)

So I made this Animal Crossing like game called Castaway Paradise. It's 50% off. Steam will never ever feature it because it's not hardcore enough :/

hey man, whatever to prevent you gettin sued by Nintendo

not necessarely talking about your game's very clear inspiration but rather how jumpy they are about that stuff

Should I just get Dragonfall?

Yeah. If you love it and need more Shadowrun you can always buy Returns later. The stories aren't related so you don't need to play them in order. Dragonfall is better in every way, makes Returns feel half-baked in comparison.

Only issue I have with dragonfall is that it seems like every damn enemy has grenades up the wazoo. So I get essentially chunky salsa rule'd on every mission. =\

I like everything else about Dragonfall much more than Returns though.

That Ark game on Early access. Anyone playing it? Is it good, hear it has really bad framerate issues.

I get decent FPS on an I7 3770K and a GTX670. About 30-40.

I am really tempted to get The Long Dark as I have been waiting for a long time. Was hoping to be a fiver...I dunno man.

Man I sure love it when two dlcs are nearly as expensive as a GOTY edition of a game and one of them is as much as the base game.

At least are The Knife of Dunwall and the Brigmore Witch dlcs worth it for $5 each? How much content do these add individually?
Dunwall adds a completely new char to play as with powers that function way differently than the main char. How long they are depends on your playstyle. Very much worth it if you love the game

Holy Shit... You can request refunds on 2 packs if the other party agrees?

Time to unmake that 7 days to die mistake.

Oh god. I thought I'd said it more than once already in both this and the regular Steam thread. Largest mistake I made last summer sale was that game.

I almost bought that game in a 2-pack...your post is making me glad I didn't. Can you comment a bit on why you didn't like it? It seems to get pretty solid reviews on Steam so that's what almost convinced me to pull the trigger....

LOL wellll...I guess that means I made the right choice holding off...any chance you can offer a few details why it sucks? I mean, it can't possibly be as bad as DayZ "Running Simulator 2013-15" Perpetual Alpha can it?

Hmm, so is the only way to get Mystic Towers to buy the Apogee collection? I kind of want just mystic towers, so I might hold off on that unless it really goes on a better sale.

You'd be surprised. Day Z was bad in that respect. 7 Days to Die was just.

I'll quote a few things I've said of it the past week, but it's repetitive:

It's not your ordinary survival. It's a horror/survival sandbox nightmare. Playing online with others shit, playing without them is boring. Crafting is bad, animations are poor, even for an indie. They didn't even put time into the death animation - you literally just scream, and it's over and reset. I didn't enjoy it at all. I tried to. I put in a fair few hours in both modes.

I'll happily give a breakdown based on it, though.

1. Crafting. Oh boy. Too bad supplies are scarce and no matter how many cars, trash bags, and boxes you raid, you probably won't be able to craft what you need to, and that's even with drops being more frequent. It only gains depth when you figure it out, anyway, as they don't have a beginner walk through of any sort in regards to crafting.

2. The online. The online. Can we not. People take the fun out of this when you constantly find your base being hacked. No pity whatsoever there. It's an every man for himself sort of world. The "hacks" aren't limited to this however, people have been known to increase their attack damage, reduce the defence of others, choose their spawn spots instead of it being random. Some are clever enough to set your ping low enough you can't tell there's a hacker present that minute. This is if you're on an open server, mind, and my impression is >October 2014. I don't think they've worked on anticheat since then.

3. By above merit, PvE is fine, I guess. You don't come across that issue just playing co-op with a few friends, but your friends aren't always going to be available to play. It gets boring then, anyway. There's only 1 map, though it's huge, but even online it's difficult to come across people with how massive it is if you're playing fairly. It's a fairly barren map, too.

4. The zombie AI is dreadful, so if you were looking for genuine scares from them, you won't get that here even at highest level. Their movements are obvious, you can get away really easily, even if they're just a few paces away. It's almost like they're oblivious to your existence. Weird for a survival game. The combat is subpar, as well.

5. Early game is a bitch. End game, though, ha. Suddenly you're an OP wonder, with all these unlocked skills. At that point, you don't even need a base for anything. It's repetitive though. Collect, craft, build, repeat.

I just realized that Shadowfall Dragonrun DC is on special until June 22th.
Is it another one of those "we pretend it's a daily but it's not really?"
