...On a wide variety of devices, without owning the game beforehand.
These comparisons are terrible at best and knowingly disingenuous and derailing at worst.
A good reply. Gaikai is to expand their gaming circle, not to 'fix' BC. If people want PS3 games they'll buy a PS3. BC isn't really that important in my eyes. although its a nice feature to have, i would not sacrifice anything else for very spotty case by case basis software emulation, especially considering how 360s and PS3's are plentiful.
Of course this outcome is all because they knew PS3 would be a dead end solution for emulation for PS4, so they have to move on.
That being said, PS2 and PS1 i think should be doable sometime in the future, so i hope they take that into account eventually.
Is this a joke I'm not in on?

i would absolutely love and appreciate being able to play every Metal Gear Solid/Resident Evil/Final Fantasy on one box. Make it soooooooo (please).
Can you play Xbox games on TV's with MS BC? PS NOw is a platform for playing games on multiple devices...without a console. They launched it on Ps4 first yes, but it's not for BC alone. It;s a heck of a lot more.
You say without owing the games beforehand, I say forcing you to pay twice for games you may already own.
Sony has plenty of experience shipping BC consoles, and doubtless they have statistics to back up their belief. Given that I still have a 360 connected I can tell you exactly how many titles I've played on it lately: one, and it's one they've already said wont be supported (Rock Band 3.) Likewise I played a grand total of two PS1 titles on PS2 (MGS and FFVII) after not owning the original Playstation. Why would I jump for joy at the presence of BC? It's a nice feature, but of limited value and even less meaningful when it isn't available right at the start of a generation.
It is incredibly limited right now. That doesn't change the fact that Playstation Now is a service which provides the option to play games from old Playstation Systems, nor does it change the mental gymnastics and blind fanboyism required to say that isn't a backwards compatibility service right now, regardless of what other devices it can be used on.
People are making the argument of "NOBODY PLAYS OLD GAMES! PLAYSTATION NOW IS DIFFERENT BECAUSE IT'S PLAYING OLD GAMES!"
You say without owing the games beforehand, I say forcing you to pay twice for games you may already own.
Point? That's just the beginning. They have stated it's coming to tablets, phones...they are not investing in this really for PS4 BC.
which will be expanded to other devices in the future.....
You say without owing the games beforehand, I say forcing you to pay repeatedly for games you may already own.

SMB is the exception to saves -- it is listed in the known issues
A super small % of people will actually use this. Its a bullet point for Microsoft and a talking point for fanboys in console war threads.
I'd like to see microsoft at least try to do something that advances gaming. That's what I want to see.
More games is the reason. Cheap games. Most I have never played. Fuck yeah I am jumping for joy. We like games.
Except ps now is not about that..like at all. PS3 games was just a starting point, it is a totally new platform that will not just be old games and will play games on many devices without a console. PS now is a heck of a lot more, only downplaying I see is people downplaying ps now and what its purpose is.
Nope, been explained dozen times already.
I like more games in the form of new games.

Of course it is not for BC or PS4 alone, but it is the BC 'solution' for PS4.
Yeah people are doing that but to be fair you are downplaying X1 BC. Actually, seeing you around you seem to have a negative view of MS in general and a pretty positive view of Sony so maybe you can't really see that you're doing the same thing. Having preferences is cool but this thread is getting beyond talking points and just getting into console war stuff. Again, both approaches bring something to the table.

Haha exactly. Just like with any other company that gets criticised around here Sony needs to stop talking about what their service can do and show us. So far it's just been a way to play old games via a paid service. No of course not. That service which provides nothing other than the ability to play old Playstation games is not at all about playing old Playstation games. How could people not see it clearly?
Its also a hell of a lot less.
I like more games in the form of new games.
If you already own it, you obviously own a PS3.
So you can play it on that. Forcing? Unless they come to your house and smash your PS3 they aren't forcing anything.
Can someone throw down some reasons why BC is such a huge issue?
It is most definitely not. PS Now is the foundation of the future of the Playstation brand and gaming in general. Cloud gaming.
"enough people use the feature for it to matter" =/= enough people use this for Sony to invest money into BC. Those are two completely different things.
Sony is leading the market right now, MS is not. They needed to garner some goodwill and ensure that people with 360s will convert to XB1. That's exactly what this BC announcement is designed to do.

Of course you think games made for cell can easily run on ps4? Lol . It's Sony's only option.Of course it is not for BC or PS4 alone, but it is the BC 'solution' for PS4.
But Sony said a lot of current ps4 fans doesnt have a ps3 previously.
Bc will help these people to buy ps3 games cheaper and easier.
Like mcc gears of war remaster? Come on everyone does them. Again please explain how games made for cell can run on ps4 without major work?Hardly anyone used BC, so we took it away. Please excuse us while we continue to make major bank on PS2 classics, HD collections and remasters.

I agree.
They can both coexist. Comparing one to the other has no effect as it is all personal preference, but there does seem to be a clear disconnect on what each service purpose and people just running around with there own believes rather than facts.
PS Now can be used on non Playstation devices. If it's a underused feature why have they wasted money making PS Now?
That isn't really relevant to what I said.
I took issue with his claim that the feature is "rarely used," and the lack of compelling evidence which has been given to defend that notion. If people could buy and play FF7 PS1 classic right now on PS4, it would likely be getting a lot of use.
Also, given that I was specifically referring to PS1 and PS2 support, it is almost certainly not an issue of relative expense, but rather one of priorities.
Don't see that at all the entire ps4 was built with social in mind. How is it more social?I find that Xbox One is the more social of the two platforms, from someone building a 3rd party site. The only way MS could do better is by opening their Xbox Live API a bit. That said, even the limited amount of access I have into their API to get clips, screenshots and such is more than I can get from Playstation.
