Horizon: Zero Dawn Trailer (Guerrilla, post-apocalyptic pre-historic adventure)

What do you mean "neither are RPGs"?

You don't want that kind of depth here,

I think he's saying that he wants more than what really amounts to little more than collectathons that you use to level up certain aspects of your character, which I agree with.

More Witcher, less crackdown.

I hope not. Sucker Punch needs to completely scrap their weak side content approach for their next game. Far Cry is not something I want it to emulate either. Neither are RPGs.

I think the focus is gonna be more on action and adventure. Like say Shadows of Mordor which is also called an RPG.

Looking at this and loving it, it got me super curious about SSM's cancelled game. Supposedly an open world sci-fi game. I can't imagine how it would have looked like. Sad we will never get to see it.

So this is post-apocalyptic pre-historic?

Post-apocalyptic = after the end of society

pre-historic = before any history was recorded

I don't see how this is possible, very strange description

I love RPGs, but some games can just be fun open world games. You don't need character levelling.

Customisation is fine, but SuckerPunch is great at giving you an action/shooter moveset and designing great encounters/AI. You don't need levelling.

Exactly. I want lots of side stories with choices that are meaningful. Some hunt/bounty missions would be cool too. Lots of variety with good writing.

The music in this trailer is what makes everything for me. It sets the stage for this advanced civilization being returned to nothing. Absolutely love it, and i'm SOO happy for that studio finally breaking away from Killzone. Not only that, but it's by Killzone 3 devs rather than Shadowfall.

Quests designed by the WItcher 3 guy hired by Guerrilla, from his Linkedin page:

'Devil By The Well'
'Precious Cargo'
'A Frying Pan, Spick and Span'
'Missing In Action'
'Twisted Firestarter'
'Fall Of The House Of Reardon'
'Ghosts Of The Past'
'The Bloody Baron'
'For The Advancement Of Learning'
'Count Reuven's Treasure'
'High Stakes'
'Ugly Baby'
'Disturbance'
'The Final Trial'
'To Bait A Forktail'
'No Place Like Home'
'Va Fail, Elaine'
'Blood On The Battlefield'

Fricking Bloody Baron, oh man!!

Sorry if this has already been posted but I thought this was interesting

The side content in Second Son was a joke and copy pasted into every area.

That is what I mean by not wanting it to be like that at all. No unlocking towers nonsense like Far Cry/Ubisoft games either.

If the world really is as open as they have stated there has to be a faster way to get around than just walking.

Perhaps you will become the 'Toruk Makto' to this bad boy.
Two reasons to entertain the possibility are:
1. In the picture his eyes are blue, generally used to denote a friendly being. And it's the only creature with blue lights I've spotted in Horizon thusfar. (I was wrong about it being the only one)
2. At the end of the trailer we first encounter this creature with eyes a glaring red, but the encounter itself is open-ended, so anything might happen.

It would be very cool, although flying in open worlds can be problematic, since it removes the vertical barrier and makes reaching distant locations very easy. So probably not.

Edit: I also just noticed all these robots are basically shining blue lights as long as they are in passive grazing mode, only when they sense a threat do their lights turn red.

It isn't, I already commented on it a few pages back. It's a post-apocalyptic tribal adventure, or something like that. I guess primitive/tribalistic equals pre-historic to the OP's mind, which is somewhat understandable although still wrong.

Was 2016 confirmed? I hope Sony will let them delay to 2017. Haven't been this hyped for a an IP in a long time and I don't want GG to be rushed.

They're ok at it, not great.

And RPGs are about more than levelling. And with the hunting aspect it would be a massive waste to not explore upgrading gear with parts you salvage from fallen machines.

Because people have "regressed" to the point where they o longer record things. History has ended. It's really post-historic, but it functions like pre-history. I think really though it's just to get across the tone of the game.

Game has been in development since Killzone 2 wrapped, I think the possibility of being rushed went out the window a few years ago. :P

So a post- apocalyptic setting (since we can see the old civilization structures) where the perception is from a person one can identify as pre-historic...

Sorry don't have a link, but on one of the twitch channels a few hours ago the interviewer mentioned he really liked the robotic dinosaurs. GG mentioned they don't resemble dinosaurs, and wouldn't say what they were to not ruin plot but said they resemble other creatures from Human history. WTF? Only thing I could come up with were the robotic creatures with long necks that resembled Giraffes (see the post directly above this one), but some clearly seemed to be prehistoric lizards. Thoughts?

Herman described it as "Post post-apocalyptic." It is set 1000 years after the collapse of civilization to a point where the current people don't have a real history of what happened to them. At least, that's what we are being told right now.

Also, it is being called "pre-historic" in how people are living not in whether history is exactly being recorded or not imo although the trailer starts with showing drawings on the wall as to show how some things went.

Yeah, Herman also called them 'machines' not robo-dinosaurs in the interview with Keighley when Keighley called them dinosaurs.

Edit: Here is the segment @ 1h42m.

IGN impressions of some behind-closed-door stuff:

and visiting a King’s Landing-looking city that seems to be a safe haven from the machines that roam the wild. Guerrilla showed us a piece of concept art that featured a sun-baked city filled with a bustling marketplace and even some robo dogs that were just hanging around and not eating anybody. I can imagine collecting contracts, meeting other characters, and trading in my loot back at this hub.
Watching Aloy set up a series of tripwires across two tall rocks, scaring a group of Grazers into running off, and seeing them set off the bombs and get completely blown apart showcased the neat sandbox elements that Guerrilla promised throughout Horizon.

I have a few friends who saw this and we're all looking for more info on the game...like the story, goals, loot, commerce side, collecting, upgrading and if there is more than just the Robo Dinos. In the narrative they mention Tribes from all over coming so maybe there's something between the Tribes with the Robo Dinos in the mix. Game did look great though......

In the gamespot interview one of the Guerrilla guys mentioned fighting other humans, which I'm guessing will be from the other tribes. I don't know how well that's gonna work in practice (I can't imagine fighting another hunter in MonHun), but it does sound pretty interesting.

I have to say that this game is at the top of my list for 2016.

This is the best art I see in a game in like, years. My concern is with the gameplay, which is something Guerrilla's games always lack imo. If the gameplay matches the visuals, then wow.

Humanity was almost eradicated and it's been so long since modern society and so much knowledge has been lost we've reverted back to tribalism and hunter gathering.

Yup and I'm one of them. Nothing against females. I love them and respect them. I have the best girlfriend in the world and I treat her like a princess. But playing as one in a video game I cannot.

I just cannot enjoy it and immerse my self into the world. As with most high testosterone males we want to come home from a long day at work and put on a video game and feel empowered for a short while. I just cant do that when playing as chick with big tits and vagina.

only exception is Ellie from Last of US. and I have no idea why it didn't bother me with her.

I realize I'm going to get a lot of hate for his post and probably get banned from GAF but just wanted to be honest.

Poor guy wandered in here thinking this was the Testorizon: Hero Dong thread.

I can't fathom 1000 years past the apocalypse (whenever that might've been in their timeline) let alone hundreds of years in the future from now. Like, think about what was happening 1000 years ago to us, 1015. I mean, sure, we know a little, but... not that much. It's crazy. The game could easily be set 1500 years from now, and if you think of how fast tech is growing, that's an insane amount of time for it to change.

I uh, I just really wanna play this game. Like, ruul bad.

Setting up trip wire explosives, scaring the deer looking robo's into running into them just to be blown apart for salvage? YES PLEASE!

It's been awhile since a game had such s brilliant opening reveal. Amazing

Dinosaurs are in, they should embrace it. Haven't they seen how much money Jurassic World is raking in?

Lol. You can't feel empowered playing as a female character? No offence buddy, but Aloy is probably orders of magnitude more capable than you are at hunting machines, exemplified in the way she manhandled that robo t-rex. Just as I'm sure a countless number of real women would be at different physical activities too.

I don't know if you guys watched Shu's interview with Greg and Colin today, but Shuhei sounds hyped as hell when he talked about Sucker Punch's new game. Bend's game, QD's game and Gravity Daze 2 are all playable for a while now. I'm so excited for next years :D

It's one of the most ridiculous things I've read here in a while.

Number 3 on Amazon Canada's Best selling video game hourly.

Right behind Fallout 4 (PS4) and Uncharted 4. In fact the entire top 10 is just full of PS4 games including The Last Guardian and Ratchet & Clank.

Good to see it doing well.

Best wishes.

Yeah this feels like a much better version of 2007 for the PS3 where suddenly we had an amazing show and tons of titles to look forward to in 2008 and 2009. Except this time we have a lot to look forward to in 2007'as well.

i think it's ashly burch, chloe in life is strange.

but it may have just been recorded for this gameplay debut, remember.
I'm not that familiar with her work, but it sounds like a different actress to me. Slightly lower pitched. She has a few comments about E3 on twitter but doesn't mention Horizon specifically.

That IGN article also says you can level up Aloy which means there's some sort of character system which is something I've been wondering about.

Hopefully by "the most RPG-focused adventures that Bethesda works on" means Daggerfall and not Skyrim.
