Yup, but I don't want to. I want MS to succeed at this. I just don't trust them on it yet. And I also see a lot of other people making decisions I made like selling their 360 and/or buying a bunch of 360 games without a 360. I bought a bunch of OG Xbox games that I hadn't played for them never to become BC compatible. Thus why I am conveying in this thread that everyone should be cynical first on this one.
I convinced some to get a PS4 because both didn't have BC and they had a butch of 360 games, I do not think they'll be getting a PS4 now.Such a shame this wasn't a launch feature. The "console war" up to now would've been way more interesting that way.
"OK it's $100 more but it does play all the 360 games I still own. Bought."
" and it is a much requested feature but actually its not so greatly used."
Is Don Mattrick back?!
I'd be willing to bet that people are more likely to double dip on a remaster than they are to take advantage of BC.I think it hits the nail, I always wanted BC but rarely ever used it. I recall getting excited about replaying SotC but never did, however I played it to death when it was remastered.
(you can keep your save data with this)Over requested and under used, agree entirely. In fact:

The only time BC is genuinely useful is at console launch... and even then, I owned a PS3 at launch and never used the BC, despite the "awful" library at the time. When my PS3 died and I had to get a non-BC replacement I was genuinely disappointed that I was losing this feature... until I realised that I had literally never used it.
When I upgraded to PS4 I kept my PS3 (better than BC - keeps my save data) and again, haven't used it in months.

No - they (and by "they" I mean Sony, MS, etc) have the stats on this and clearly Sony stats show low actual usage from historic platforms. In short they know (and are almost certainly correct) that the majority of console owners do not actually use BC or play games from previous gen on their console.
As someone from a PC background I expect BC on PC but it's obvious that on console the majority focus on "new" games aligned to the new console.
MS have added it (I'm very sure) because they're behind Sony and are seeking other ways to differentiate and to encourage as many people with 360s to move as possible - hence even if actually usage is low it's still a decent play for MS. If MS were ahead worldwide I seriously doubt MS would have added BC as they have.
That bit about the PS3/4 upgrade was a kind of pointless personal anecdote. Obviously there are people who use BC (with or without save data)(you can keep your save data with this)
Agreed! Very coolThat's cool for the 3 people that actually use it
It's not important to me but it is nice. I will probably replay Skyrim again. Hope they make it upscale to 1080p.

My dam Phone will be able to do it before PS4 can, why people say they have no value is beyond me.
But we're speaking specifically to BC trends on consoles. It's know BC use is low.Again, things have changed, we have digital games and iphones now. They are talking about 10 years ago
" as the firm is investing in other software updates to PS4"
Ease of use is a good point, I was wrong about owning both being better than BC (especially since the xbone apparently keeps your save data anyway).i haven't used my ps3 all that much either, but i think it's a bit of a stretch to say "not using your ps3 = wouldn't use BC." if all my ps3 games ran on my ps4, i absolutely would have/would be playing a good chunk of them. especially in this digital age where we get 2 ps3 games on psplus every month, all the flash sales and shit. i have a backlog growing on my ps3. i absolutely would have dipped into that periodically if all i had to do was press the ps button on my ds4, go to the ps4 menu and select the game to play.
It would be amazing if i could toss the ps3 in the closet and play demon's souls or max payne 3 (or any of the 30+ games i have on my ps3 hdd right now) on my ps4.
if the leg-work to get ps3 emulation going on a ps4 is feasible, they should do it. and i think the consumer should expect and demand that ps4-->ps5 and xbone-->xbox4 will be a seamless steam-like transition with all purchased content transferring. if sony and MS aren't working that sort of thing into licensing (ie. PSN and XBL store games are platform agnostic), they are making a grave mistake.
What? I didn't think it looked terrible... I don't understand, what was bad about it? Im sincerely askingProbably because BC was shit on PS3 and it looked terrible, PS4 is powerful enough to make PS2/PSone look better then ever.
aliasing made some games look worst, some people wouldn't play them because of it but would happily buy a HD Collection that was just outputting the same game but in HD, it was mainly the sub HD nature of them being played on a HDTV, some games still look stunning today but are being lost due to being made in a sub HD era with no preservationWhat? Sure Sony are taking a calculated risk it'll stay low but the odds are heavily in their favour (which is why they're doing it).
BC has been a minor bullet point for selection of console for a while.
Again, I personally wish BC was always in place, but I can separate my singular preference from market reality and that says BC historically hasn't been a big issue.

Last gen, I'm sure that was true because SD games looked like crap on HDTVs.
This gen, the last gen games drill look great, and still have awesome networked capabilities. I think there is more of a call for BC this gen because last gen was still pretty incredible in the graphics department.
It did, PS3 was just standard compatibility.Another problem (for me anyway) with BC is that nostalgic feel soon goes when your eyes have to put up with really poor graphics/framerate - at least with remasters theres the upgrade.
I remember the PS2 BC improved the original experience.

Can you play PS2 games on Vita?Logical seeing as they're pushing PSNow. Plus I have my vita to play the classics. I'm more curious as to what future features he is referring to.
People will use the feature even less on Xbox. Needing to download the game is way different than just popping a disc in.

lol ofc they have data. PS3s with PS2 BC maybe?

They will show up as ready to install under Games And Apps:

Well we cant use it if its not actually there now can we...
Oh, in that case I'm just going to rebuy some PS3 multiplats as Xbox 360 BC titles
If you don't get PS1 and PS2 Classics working on PS4 Sony you're dead to me
"OK it's $100 more but it does play almost two dozen 360 games. Bought."
Nope, you buy your new console, turn it on an then you'll see this. And it was the most requested feature on Xbox feedback website.
Fixed.
What data do Sony have to say it's low? They have nothing. In 3 years time we can decide.
From 10 years ago before the age of digital games. They have nothing relevant.

They seriously shouldn't be wasting a single minute on this. Completely useless feature.
