Horizon: Zero Dawn Trailer (Guerrilla, post-apocalyptic pre-historic adventure)

"The Thundermaul comprises 93 separate elements, each with their own hit points and effects. You’re not just shooting it any which way to grind down its health, but instead where you hit really matters, "

Now I get it how the combat works. At first I was a bit wary because it didn't look like the machine didn't have HP, and it seems really easy to kill him in the demo. But after reading this, now I can somehow imagine how the combat in final game will work. Basically you had to hit the same specific spot/element multiple time to even reveal the weakpoint. And we as player are totally free to experiment which spot we want to focus our attack to.

With 15 different attack, I imagine dodging enemies attack would be a challenge on it's own already. Combine that with needing to focus on attacking the same spot again and again, or setting traps and luring them to the trap. I can now see a battle can be very long, tense and challenging affair.

I also imagine different spot will give different loot. So you may want to change up your strategy if you had a specific loot you want to get. Damn I'm so hyped for this game.

One other point with this, I wonder if traps have a threshold on how much they can do. Like would the trip wire they used on the deer things would work on Thunderjaw, or would you need more/a stronger one to make it fall?

Can't believe the dinosaurs roam around the world dynamically battling other tribes, and keeping the damage they take on lol. In the behind the closed door demo, apparently the Thunderjaw they came across was already at half health, and had arrows etc stuck in it from a previous dynamic battle with some other random tribe. Very cool. Also cool the way you can goad the smaller dinosaurs in to your traps, and that they have mini alpha males that defend the herd etc.

That is really freaking cool.

It all sound so perfect in my head. Now what they need is a good variety of dinobots to fight. 15 attacks for Thundermaul alone is fantastic, but I hope they're not skimping on the amount of total dinobots. I hope they're not like a boss fight you encounter once per playthrough, but the focus on hunting to gather loot and crafting led me to believe they're made to be fought multiple times throughout the game.

One suggestion GG guys, since i know you are reading this thread.
Make the night time dark, black is there is not the moon to light it, instead having a night as lesser lit day time makes little sense, would be just an aesthetic pointless thing.
Use the night time to add or mix up your game mechanics.
As much i'm LOVING W3 i find myself meditating the night away, no point playing in a bluish light with nothing happening.
For the night is dark and full of terrors.

Well in the video we got to see there were multiple thunderjaws(?) in a single herd so no doubt those aren't rare things to see. I'm really interested to see how a fight with one of those giant towering disc headed mechs will go. Or a fight with that mech griffon / eagle thing.

But yeah the head of GG said they have lots of variety so don't think there is an issue there. And that Killzone Easter egg looks like it was a scorpion looking one.

Going to be great seeing this at each conference in one way or another. Couldn't have shown it any better then they did. I've seriously watched that trailer about 30x

I hope we'll have a good inventory system in this game.

Witcher 3 did a shit work on that part.

Day/Night cycle with weather would be amazing on this game too.

already confirmed

I'll say this much, for what looked a lot like a western Monster Hunter clone in the trailer, it sure has managed to get a lot of people's imaginations going. Talk about your successful reveals.

All this new info, especially the Witcher 3 quest designer poaching is pretty interesting

Sounds so good, like an adult version of Monster Hunter.
You basically said Monster Hunter is a kid's game :P

Anyways, hopefully Horizon doesn't have the padding from the Monster Hunter series. By padding I refer to having to gather stuff herbs, mushrooms, spider webs, etc etc to combine into essential items you need in practically every hunt.

You know what I meant; stylistically and the aesthetic.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how things like ammo is handled.

I'm asking from a game development perspective. Drake in Uncharted talks just as much. Does he also annoy you.

Drake's talking makes sense. He's supposed to be quick and witty and funny with his one liners.

Anyways, I don't think these machines reproduce... I mean how would they?

It's interesting that the green canisters are clearly processed plant life... Do the machines designed around carnivore dinos "eat" or attack the smaller machines? I am doubtful. I bet they only attack humans. I bet all the machines live peacefully together, but I wonder how the big dinos are powered.

I wonder if there is a tribe that works with or helps the machine life. I wonder if there is a tribe of smarter human-like robots that assemble these machines.

I wonder what's left in those big cities. There has to be some kind of life or tribe working there. What if humans were simply wiped out by some biological disease, and robots were companions that were unaffected by this, and then in their loneliness, they created their own machines to repopulate the earth?

So much potential for loreeee

Yup and I'm one of them. Nothing against females. I love them and respect them. I have the best girlfriend in the world and I treat her like a princess. But playing as one in a video game I cannot.

I just cannot enjoy it and immerse my self into the world. As with most high testosterone males we want to come home from a long day at work and put on a video game and feel empowered for a short while. I just cant do that when playing as chick with big tits and vagina.

only exception is Ellie from Last of US. and I have no idea why it didn't bother me with her.

I realize I'm going to get a lot of hate for his post and probably get banned from GAF but just wanted to be honest.

Well done bro.

This is probably the stupidest thing I've ever read on this forum in quite some time.

I have a feeling it's getting the Uncharted treatment and will be delayed to early 2027.

After 4.5 years in development and a successful reveal that looked and played really solid? I doubt it. We're also talking about a studio that has already released a full PS4 title developed from the ground up.

I'm expecting it next fall with no delay. Will stand by this.

plus they said that the game has been playable over a year now.

Yeah but the other game was an FPS.

For some reason, this post reminded me of:

Although so far we’ve only seen her bow and rope-caster, Aloy can carry up to four weapons at a time, each of which has slots for three different types of ammunition. The action slows down when you open up the weapon selection wheel, allowing you to quickly swap in the most appropriate answer to a given situation in the heat of battle. Aloy has a wide range of tools at her disposal, which when combined with the fully-destructible environments and unpredictable enemy AI makes for extremely dynamic and tactically-engaging combat.
Crafting will play a major role in Horizon, utilizing the scrap materials collected from felled robo-beasts, such as “metal scrap” and “flame coil,” as well as herbs that can be gathered for healing. We did not get to see the full crafting menu in which Aloy will make things like weapons and clothing, but they did demonstrate “quick crafting.” Aloy can make new ammunition on the fly, directly from the weapon selection wheel in the main HUD. This is to allow players to keep their focus squarely in the action for simple tasks like ammo re-ups.

Sounds lovely. I'm glad there is no regenerating health!

What about realistic women like Aloy. She doesn't have big tits (or a big vagina I guess?)
