Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

I should have the game today so I'll give impressions. Gonna be disappointed if the Batmobile ends up holding the entire game back.

Is the Batmobile really that bad? I mean... it's the batmobile. A futuristic super tank. And it sucks?

Kevin mentions that it controls great, but it is forced upon you too much in long, drawn out sections, mediocre boss battles with it and even some annoying puzzle sequences. He feels like they are basically trying to force it on you too much in order to try and make it more relevant. He also said that gliding around for him was much more preferable.

My best guess is the boss battles will be like t he previous games in the series. If you like those you will like these, and if you hated those you will hate these.

I just hope they have something on the level of the Mr. Freeze fight.

Guess Rocksteady didn't managed to nail the boss encounter like Origins does. I'm surprise there was such a divisive opinion on the Batmobile.

The IGN review gives away some character spoilers.

But these reviews are reassuring! I was worried that series fatigue would of set in but it looks like Arkham Knight holds up.

Why do people always listen to the lowest score?

Confirmation bias.

Bullshit.

You should be looking to see if someone's gripes with a product are also going to be dealbreakers for you as well. I always read the negative reviews before the positive ones. If the flaws pointed out in the review don't sound like they're going to be issues for me as well, then I can safely assume that the game is going to be enjoyable for me.

I'd love to watch/read these reviews but my copy of the game will be hear in a few days and these reviews would in no way effect my decision to play the game. I'll just have to wait until after I beat the game so as to avoid any spoilers.

Never played an Arkham game... Is this the one?

I'd really encourage you to play through Arkham Asylum and Arkham City first, and play Arkham Knight in a month or four to avoid fatigue.

Gonna echo this sentiment. These games are highly serialized and playing Arkham Knight first is going to spoil major plot lines of the others.

stuff about the Batmobile and the game getting tedious has be still a bit on the fence with this game (also funds are tight right now)

Glad we're including Gaming With Character. Thats my favorite place for reviews. Followed by GameTrailers probably.

Shiva was genuinely nothing more than a regular ninja enemy with a health bar, I can't even begin to think of how that qualifies as amazing.

She's basically an armored martial artist with no counter icons.

Completing the fight flawlessly while managing all the other opponents is what makes it interesting.

It's challenging the first time, and fun to repeat.

Gamespot review has me worried since the whole Batmobile thing always looked completely dumb to me from the first reveal.

Its still really good. Might want to just hit it outside the trilogy.

So does the story of Origins not play a part in the other games at all, or is it just minimal fan service type stuff?
I've just bought Arkham Asylum, already own City GOTY, will play through these 2 over then next few months and then if I really like them I'll probably pick up Origins to bridge the gap until Knight GOTY releases :D

Gamespot's video review

edit: it has boss spoiler

Nice.

Honestly, it's troubling that large puzzle sections require the Batmobile as well as do boss fights. The Batmobile should have been another option for travel, and they should have focused on ways to reward you for traveling on the streets as opposed to always gliding in the sky. OR just don't do anything, and let people pick. And who cares if most choose gliding over it. I would have been okay with using it in sections to get across gaps, or blowing through large chunks of walls/barriers. But based on this video, I can absolutely see it getting tedious with boss fights designed around it, as well as forcing large puzzle sections with it.

Also people need to understand his review also specifies that the script has problems. And that by the end of the game, boss fights and puzzles start to feel tedious because of the Batmobile. That and the script stumbles and the big reveals feels obvious and not compelling.

I said this in other posts, but I really thought Arkham City stumbled in the last act. Both in the story and the boss battles. So I see a lot of that back in Arkham City, if this review ends up being accurate. And with that paired off with the Batmobile....yeah I'm kind of worried. Although 7 out 10 is still a good score and highlights all the wonderful things it does rights and makes it worth playing. I guess I just wanted to love it.

Anyways, this review is more than fair. And it totally justifies why he gave it this score. Anyone saying they are confused, either didn't read/watch the review, or they don't want to have the same opinion as him.

Meristation (Spain) 9.3 Excelente - OP note: That's "excellent" in English

+The big show from the beginning
+Enigma challenges and a couple of sidequests. Brilliant!
+The most complete Arkham fighting system to date.
+Batmobile, a great mechanic by itself...

-...but it takes time to get acostumed to. Battles against tanks can get a little bit repetitive.
-The bosses don't shine as much as in previous games.

I fear I will be siding with Gamespot when I get my hands on the game. That combat felt pretty tired already by the third game and it doesn't seem like they've done much or anything to revamp it.

Urgh, Gamespot's review echoes exactly what I was worried about - that the Batmobile, for all it's flair, severely dampens the overall experience and marginalizes the alternatives you get from not using it.

I feel like the Arkham games have focused too much on going bigger and lost a bit of what makes the setup so focused. Still looking forward to try it but I'm a bit more skeptical.

I need to be spoiled because I'm still not sold on it which is very weird as Arkham Asylum is one of my favourite GOAT.

The IGN review spoiled something really awesome.

Mark Hamill returns.

PC version ready to blow my mind!! My body is ready!

I look forward to playing this down the road.

After 3 games I'm Batman'ed out. Don't really have any hype or interest at all right now.

I'll keep an eye on PC deals/sales/bargains.

I've also, somehow, bought 8 games in the Steam sale (that I don't need with my backlog) to keep me busy.
There is no perfect game. When a game receives a 10, it doesn't mean it's perfect. If you think that way, a 10 would be a impossible score. It just means it's an awesome game, with minor flaws that doesn't detract from the experience.
