Bungie defends Destiny: The Taken King's £/$40 price tag (Eurogamer)

Given that the collector's is sold out already, is there even a way to get the extra stuff? Or is there a digital version that includes that stuff and the extra unnecessary content people with the season pass/DLC own already?

This whole thing is so confusing, and pretty irritating for me personally given that HoW did a lot to win me back over after I quit when they were pulling this same piss poor PR stuff with the Dark Below announcement.

For the price they're asking, I would have expected a full rundown of the contents of The Taken King by now, wonder how long they'll drag it out before divulging what we actually get.

I love Luke and legitimately feel bad for him for being put in this situation. Dude's gotta get his paycheck.

Sad as fuck to see it happen so plainly tho. Christ.

I do not understand this reference but I think it would be cool if Taken King CE, instead of the sparrow, had a cow mount you could cruise around on.

40 for the hundreds of hours you all will be treading through these new maps areas game modes raids n looting of items is money well spent and honestly if you really think 40 pounds is a lot may I suggest seeking of better employment rather than posting unheard outrage on a video game forum. End of thread you nerds.

Holy shit lmao

Yes but this is a new low, borderline malpractice if you ask me. So from what i understand, if want some of that content thats only available in that new 99$ version, my digital game that ive already bought becomes utterly useless. This to me is unacceptable. If i could trade my digital game in, i would in a second. Im done with Bungie.

It's $80 in the US and comes with everything previously released. It's great for new players but hurts people who wants the shaders and emblems.

It's not a new low, it's Activision, they've done this before.

The best part of that interview is "why can't I buy the items separately" instead of asking why it's not included with the expansion. It's funny how DLC was a complaint before (lol Horse Armor) and now it's accepted that we're getting ripped off.

Bungie and Activision are doing an admirable job of whittling down the Destiny userbase to consist only of handpicked idiots that will pay whatever they're told for the thinnest slivers of content.

That user database would be priceless to marketing companies that have over priced tat to sell.

I think he/she is saying that Bungie is milking it, and the sheep will line up to buy it.

That makes sense, for some reason my mind immediately went "goat" for the 2nd picture, despite it clearly being a sheep.

Hopefully this expansion is more like the House of Wolves dlc instead of The Dark Below.

I'm having a lot of fun with HoW, but it felt like The Dark Below borderlined on being a complete ripoff.

I generally like Destiny and would like to play it more but no way in hell am I paying $20 dollars for two updates with barely any content and then $40 for another xpack with barely any content.

I already paid $60 for a barebones game, not going to make that mistake twice.

Buying the CE of Destiny was the biggest mistake I made in terms of game purchases. While I had my share of fun with the base game, the expansion wasn't worth the paid price. I feel being screwed over to this day. Never again Bungie.

Not sure if serious.

The whole exchange with Luke was amazing in the worst way. With that attitude I guess Bungie is dead to me now.

That's what I figured you were talking about.

From your own article:

Deej has actually commented on that image. Saying that while it was accurate at the time it was taken (September) it has since lost any credibility. And he said that back in November.

Personally, I use it as a bit of an estimate, but don't assume it's concreted. It's getting more and more inaccurate as more content is being released.
It's also possible that they took some content out of that to package into their next expansion, priced at £65. please be excited.

They've acclimated users to their egregious pricing model and now people think spending 2/3 of the price of the full game for about 1/3 of the content is acceptable. The $60 for the full game was already a fucking rip off.

I agree with the DLC pricing, but not on the main game,

Answer me this, which coop shooter has more on the disk than Destiny ?

And dont say Halo MCC, that is a collection

Ive never had to rebuy a game before. Ever.

I think it's innovative.

They've figured out how to monetize their reputation and good standing with fans, and by Jove they still have some to get through.

You have to squint at your memories to recall a time when they seemed very much like a pro-consumer developer.
I'd love to see a grand total of how much you can pay for expansions in Destiny then have it compared to the subscription fees of MMO's over the same release period.

I can't believe there's still a defence force for content in Destiny.

So you're all saying this is a bad time to get back into Destiny?

I quit for 5 months because of the general bullshit in the game but HoW got me back in.
now Im stuck :(

Guess I really don't care since I just remembered I bought a second Dreamcast and imported PSO version 2 just to play it a few months earlier then the U.S. version

Well they are shameless, I'll give them that much.

When is GAF going to get to the point where "I think it's a fair price, if you can't afford it you should get a better job" is bannable? It's fucking worthless condescending bullshit that does nothing to contribute to any topic.

Apparently right now, because he is banned.

"It's also important to remember the temporal valuation of content. If you played during The Dark Below, you were playing when there were Swordbearers everywhere. That's now gone and you can't recapture that now. Some things are being left behind as we move forward. It's the same with House of Wolves, right now, with the Fallen showing up all over the solar system. Those things are going to be less relevant as we move forward and the Taken are everywhere.

I don't really like the sound of that. With the sword bearers, there's one guaranteed mission at least where you can still complete the Eris bounty. Other than picking up the joke weapon from their bodies, there wasn't much to the random sword bearers.

The Fallen are different. There are specific bounties to those guys, and those random appearances are the only way to complete those bounties and move up through the Queen's Wrath. Engaging and defeating them is also the only way to get Etheric Keys, either through the chests or through the first bounty completion. If they're hinting at essentially removing that aspect, then the PvE HoW content is more or less useless.

This is interesting, the taken king retail version (regular version) is listed as £55 around the net, instead of the usual £45 retail price a lot of games have now.

So are they forcing a higher price for the comet release too?

I regret buying the first season pass....
barely even touch this game and when i think i may want to do some PvE FPS, i load into the tower... 5 minutes later i go back to home and look for something else to do.

Thankfullly Witcher 3 is giving me great content worth its month as more. lol

This will be a game of whales before long. Teeny playerbase throwing money at all the fun things they can buy.... at least it feels like that's what they're developing it to be.

No kidding, right?

Yeah. Even with TDB the slide differs by two months on timing, and lists 3 missions vs. the 5 they shipped. As you said, it was likely to be semi-accurate in the near term, but to the extent that they changed plans, those changes would be further out on the horizon - which is about where we are at now.

By the time of release it'll drop to £40-45.

£55 is RRP for the UK.

Oh I know, I'm fully expecting some changes and additions. So far though everything they've discussed with the Taken King has held up to the original leak. I'm just trying to temper expectations a little bit since some of the defenders in this thread are hoping for a lot more than what we're probably going to get.

Honestly it's probably the best time to get back into Destiny, it's the day 1 players who are getting screwed over by most of this pricing.

The entire financial structure of the game is built around those day 1 players sticking through it all to buy DLC. They're making a calculated bet. No one should be surprised by this pricing. Could do without the attitude, though.

I'm sure this has been driven into the ground, but...

Well, yeah. I would rather do that - pay a few pounds or dollars or whatever - than spend money on things I already own.

"Well, we have nothing more to talk about regarding your opportunity to spend extra money in Destiny, other than The Taken King and the three versions we've announced."

... LOL, what a douchey fucking response.

His defense was basically "Well, uh, we uh, it's like, an expansion. So, ya know, what else would we charge? Just buy it."

Absolutely gross.

Hah! HoW nearly brought me back in for
(like 2 weeks)

But this new expansion is the final straw.

Bungie have bungled their way to losing me as a customer with a lot of bone headed decisions all throughout this games life.

See you again for Destiny 2..maybe.

I'm going to wait until we actually know what's in TTK before judging them.

Though the exclusive emotes are bullshit, even if I don't care.
