Ex-Bungie artist plagiarizes art for marathon (Up: Bungie confirm, offer to do right by the original artist)

My guess is bungee just wanted to rip off the design language. They may have even had meetings about it internally. But one talentless hack took the lazy way out and used assets from the artist with their own alterations to hide it. Cause that's what they did in college when they had to write a term paper (before AI anyway).

Crazy oversight for people that follow the real artist on Twitter.

What is even crazier is that staff from Bungie don't create an alt account to follow "persons of interest". They are not only shameless, but extremely stupid too.

Why the fuck does PlayStation still give them carte blanche ? We know they're hacks, a shadow of their former self. Shut them down and be done with this shitshow, and fire Hermen and every other idiot who pushed for this acquisition.
Sony is a generous bunch though. They'd be back. If Bungie got shut down, all they'd do is shift over people into a rebranded studio hoping nobody notices.

They did the same with 40-50 Bungie people transitioned into the new LFG Games studio to make games under that label instead of leaving it as a Bungie game. And when Deviation Games bombed, they rehired Jason Blundell to lead the new Dark Outlaws studio.

There are many instances where Twitter can be a liability for people in the gaming industry, but one accidental benefit shown here is that it can also expose bullshit like this on the part of some Bungie staff.

I think this game won't do well irrespective of the drama around it. I just think the multiplayer craze is over to some degree leaving the big players that remain all the pie. Just look at what games are popular at the moment. Clair Obscure, Oblivion Remastered etc. Sony literally has a studio that made some the best FPS campaigns and they have them do this.

Reminds me of when Kojima stole my look.
Is this you?

You would think this is something Sony is not happy about coming from one of their studios. Bush league stuff.

Someone on the team had an inspiration folder and copied some stuff from it.

But it's just some fonts and logos right? Give the artist 500 bucks for it.
IMO it should require a six figure sum. The stolen art informs much of the overall art direction of the game. Had I been Sony's shoes I would offer her 460k as a salary and credit her for visual design, then an additional lump-sum compensation on top of that. Settle it before a lawyer gets their hands on her, then it's going to get worse.
Nobody wants discovery in a fraud case where everyone gets to learn how sloppily Bungie was run for this to happen.

Funny thing is Bungie was hired to be GAAS expert overseers. I wonder if any of their tips to other studios was to rip off indie artists. lol

What's also hilarious is that it's not even Bungie's first theft as theyve done it many times before, and someone posted a chart telling it and that Bungie would quietly settle/comp them out of court.

Really no different than repeat offenders. Once a crook, always a crook.

It does not inform the art direction lol. It does nothing for the game at all, its easily replaceable.

For you gamers supportive of the game or on the fence to buy it, this plagiarism debacle is going to be good news for you.

The more negativity this game gets, the more Sony will try to retain goodwill and users when it launches.

So that means a bigger probability of it going to be F2P. So whether the game is good or not doesn't matter anymore for your wallet. Try it for free.

Why do people think this means anything? A tweet says its "like their entire identity dude" and it somehow means they ripped the entire artstyle from a twitter post?

This is nothing. Its literally a few fonts and logos, artists follow and collect ideas from thousands of artists.

People want a story where the big company steals their entire identity from the little guy, people crave the most dramatic thing possible.

In reality its just a bunch of art ideas they used for tiny details in the game that takes 3 seconds to remove.

It's amazing how many people think this twitter artist invented this art style. Guess nobody remembers Designers Republic since the artist and the game are both lifting their style from there.

Some people just believe anything they read on the internet. This style isn't anything new. A clothing brand I enjoy has been using this type of art direction for nearly 20 years now.
