Introducing 15 year old Damian would work amazingly well in this universe.

I've just always hated the concept of Damian Wayne. The idea that Bruce Wayne would allow his biological son and small child to fight dangerous vigilantes and be totally cool with it has always just rubbed me wrong. I've also always hated the concept of any kid Robin for that same reason. Why wouldn't Jim Gordon immediately try and lock Batman up for child abuse and endangerment the first time he caught a glimpse of a 10 year old Robin standing next to Batman.

Robin in general is just no bueno. Don't want any of them on screen, in costume.

Skipping over Grayson's Robin years to Nightwing, killing Jason and leaving Tim and Damian out of it entirely was my best case scenario.

This. That's what I was thinking. If that paper somehow finds it's way into the batcave or where Bruce is then it's from Jason (if they use him and don't put that storyline on Dick). The trailer likely makes it seem like it's from Joker for those in the know. The message on the suit is likely from Joker though from when Robin was killed.
