If Batman had been operating and then retired, that makes some sense.

But why is there the news report audio of "This Bat vigilante is like a one-man reign of terror"? Why is there a discussion of whether or not Clark Kent should be reporting on Batman? It intentionally gives the impression that Batman has only recently surfaced.

If Warner/DC wants to build a 10-20 year cinematic universe, it doesn't make a lot of sense to introduce a Batman that is already really long in the tooth.....though to be honest I do really like the idea of Superman bringing a retired Bats back into the fray.
Yeah, he recently resurfaced from retirement.

As far as trailers show Batman was around for awhile, at least long enough for a Robin to die and lock up some of his bigger villains, which leads to them being in Suicide Squad. With Robin being dead and most of his villains being locked up there's a good chance he chose to retire. Possibly directly related to Robin, like in The Dark Knight returns story. Seeing the events of MoS probably brought his Batman persona out of retirement.

Once the rumors of Batman being back start popping up there would be plenty of interest in it. The seemingly supernatural man from Gotham came back after the definite superhuman in Metropolis revealed himself so it would be an interesting trend story at least from a news perspective.

I could see it as...

Put the suit back on, knock some heads, make some noise, attract attention in hopes of luring Superman. Get's Clark's attention who wants to do a story on him, Perry tells him Clark Kent has no business writing about this "bat freak" so he goes as Superman to investigate...

So does Perry know Clarke is Supes? Hell the rest of the Daily Planet? I can buy Perry and Louis keeping things under wraps, but I don't know if that scene with Perry in the trailer goes along those lines.

Perry doesn't know.

So Bruce Wayne just happened to be in Metropolis that day?

How is this hard to imagine? In the comics Bruce conducts business in Metropolis a lot.

He also just happened to own the only building that fell down during the Superman/Zod fight.

Granted, it's been quite a few months since I've seen Man of Steel. But I'm pretty sure I remember more than one building falling during the final act. A lot more than one building in fact.

Some buildings take some damage, a parking garage blows up, they get tossed through afew. Only one ever really falls over though.

What they said in the panel. Gotham is like the run down former industrial jewel that's kinda struggling to survive, Metropolis is the thriving city that kinda has all the power.

Most get scraping damage or they get thrown through them. As we saw in the BvS trailer however, Wayne owned the only one to fall down when Zod laser eyed the floor.

Yes, a good chunk of Metropolis was already destroyed by the World Engine before even the fight with Zod. When Superman faced off against Zod, the area they stood on looked like a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Perfect setup for Red Hood in the solo Batman film.

This is what I was thinking as well. Red Hood, Batman, and the Joker. The animated movie that came out a few years ago was amazing. I kinda hope the actual actor who voiced Red Hood can play the actual character as well. It would be greatness.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't they only approached his origins in two movies? 16 years apart at that

Batman 89, Batman Forever, Batman Begins. If you include the animated films, The Dark Knight Returns & Batman: Year One. It was just in the TV show too. Throughout media it's been recreated hundreds of times, I just don't see why we need another one.

It's like doing another Spiderman origin story; at this point, everyone has seen it.

Guys, give up the Red Hood dream. It's too good, so they won't do it. Also
the gravestone had Dick's name on it. Everyone else is spoiler-quoting this so I'll do it too just in case.
Just give up the dream now so you don't have to suffer the heartbreak later.

;_;

WHY CAN'T WE JUST HAVE SOME ROBINS, DC, WHY

I gave zero shits about this movie, but watching the trailer got me cautiously interested. Superman on trial, paranoid Batman, Batman at Metropolis that day, having to answer for the battle... Could be very interesting.

Or stupid.

I hope they can be intelligent about it. I haven't seen Man of Steel yet...I heard netflix is getting it, so I'm honestly eagerly awaiting that day so I can watch it. I feel like MoS will be one of those movies that will bug the hell out of me due to all the missed potential. Hopefully I can enjoy it, though. Regardless of MoS, I really wish this movie could be interesting and smart. I worry it's too bloated, but...hey, cautiously optimistic.

I...honestly don't get how anyone can like Lex here. I'm genuinely trying to understand and...I don't get it. The idea of a young "up and coming" Lex isn't the worst idea ever, even if it's not my style. But the trailer...his shitty hair style, the whiny fanboy voice... And I don't care that the actor is the same age as Henry. He looks ten years younger, he looks shorter and way more immature. People are saying it's just a public persona for Lex, but every single shot of him in this movie makes him look like an immature twat of a fanboy. I cannot take him seriously at all. I sincerely hope the trailer is painting him in a bad light, but that RED CAPES! line was cringeworthy. I especially don't understand why his voice bugs me so much in the trailer when I was absolutely fine with him in The Social Network.

Sigh. Hard to really say until we can see the movie.
