SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

So when should we expect the big final spike to begin? With 2-3 days left? I saw some charts posted and it seems like projects make as much in their final 3 as their first 3 sometimes. Maybe another 2 million?

Yu is on Nico Nico right now. I don't know Japanese though :(

Here is the tweet he posted earlier that had the link.

From what I gather, this started half an hour ago. For about 5 hours (4:00pm - 9:00pm Tokyo time) there are folks on NicoNico (not sure whom) who are currently streaming Shenmue I. They've just met Megumi-chan and the kitten.

From 9:00pm-10:00pm Tokyo time, Yu Suzuki and Kouji Watanabe (Platnoic Chain) will be talking about the Shenmue 3 production (which is when most of us should be watching).

Pity I don't think it'll be translated on the fly - perhaps someone from the Dojo could assist, but I will watch it (My Japanese-fu is not great but I'll try)

EDIT: I really missed Ryo's 'so desu ka', aka 'I see'.

Awesome. Even the most general translation is super great to have.

Watching the stream. I wished Shenmue featured English sub and Japanese voices for it would really help with my Japanese studies right now

Also, it is nice that nearly 15,000 people are watching the stream.

What's everyone favourite Shenmue hack/mod?

I remember when Shenmuedojo member LanDC in 2005 I believe, discovered the whole area from wish road sequence being explorable.

It's insane all the details and elements they put in this area for a simple motorbike sequence that went by so quickly.

This is amazing. I just wonder what would happen if SEGA didn't fall out of the race and built a console that matches the PS3 with this type of production value.

My Japanese is arsed. I'm much better at Chinese (wink wink Yu lol)

The stream's now on Ryo finding the black car. This will take a while.

EDIT: My Japanese skills are mostly from Chinese and reading lots of manga raws, so written Japanese (e.g. the Nico description) I think I'm OK. Spoken, well, is another story.

Because backing evolves slower, Kicktraq's expected finale projection is lower now : at the end of the campaign, Shenmue 3 should earn between 4.89M$ and 5.25M$.
By comparison, Bloodstained collected 5.54M$.

You really need to stop looking at that chart. It's not a good indicator of where the Kickstarter will end because it doesn't anticipate things like final pushes.

Disheartening... Let's hope that this wouldn't be true because it never has been a good indicator.

Yes, Kicktraq projections are not Nate Silver. They are poorly generated computer guesses.

Anytime the campaign has gotten a big push the projections have become irrationally optimistic, and in the middle parts it has been irrationally pessimistic.

We live in a chaotic universe, and the Shenmue III Kickstarter is a chaotic part of it. Normal Kickstarter rules haven't seemed to apply to this one. Its small days have been small, and the big days have been unusually big.

I have no idea how things will pan out in the end.

But who could provide a final push for Shenmue 3's campaign ?
Dreamcast's core fans already invested a lot of money. To provide a big push, these fans will need to pay again, improve drastically their backing.

I think the only boost that could happen right now is if they announce a Shenmue HD 1 + 2 included with PS4 version (and I guess PC) for say, an extra 40 dollars. But we know this won't happen.

Project Eternity had like 11,000 new backers during the last 2 days.
Wasteland 2 about 6,000, Laylee 7,500, Bloodstained over 16,000.

Don't worry, Kickstarters tend to get most of their funding during the first and last few days.

I'm positive that the Kickstarter will hit 5m and to be honest - that is already pretty amazing. It's crazy it is doing that well to begin with. I hope we see a surge after the 48h reminder hits, but I don't expect it. Nonetheless, amazing Kickstarter.

Shenmue 3 is happening.

Guys. Yesterday I completed Shenmue 1, and started Shenmue 2 on my Xbox. The first game was already very good, but something about 2 makes it absolutely impressive. The scale and scope is just stupidly huge. Seriously, when I started moving around and saw how ALIVE and detailed this world is I was absolutely amazed. This got released on Dreamcast? God. I'm definitely gonna pay 29$ to the Kickstarter (for the PC version) before it ends. I would even get the physical version if I could afford it, but I can't right now unfortunately.

I'm 19 and I feel like a 8 year old when I was moving around Hong Kong, also I loved the fact that you can follow someone and look around in first person and check how alive the world is.

We will overtake Bloodstained. We will be the number 1 video game Kickstarter of all time.

If I'm wrong I'll make Randy Pitchford my avatar for a month.

I feel that Shenmue's candle has burned too quickly :/

That's my advice too.
Shenmue 3's announcement at Sony's E3 conference provided the biggest exposure ever seen for a Kickstarter project.

Everyone knows about Shenmue 3, and people interested by backing have already payed. The same people will certainly continue to pay again, but don't count with new backers.

But you are wrong!

What was yuor likes/dislikes about the first game compared to the second?

It's a bit soon to answer to that considering I have played like two hours of Shenmue 2 haha. But I find Shenmue 2's world a lot more alive and immersive. Also the controls are better but it's stupid they don't allow you to use one stick for moving and another stick for the camera.

I think this kickstarter TRULY speaks about the power of the fans, the strength of the brand, and the huge potential of the Shenmue market. Why? Because this kickstarter wasn't managed very well which is an overstatement in itself. If I was a corporation like SONY then I would definitely invest in Shenmue in a heartbeat after these kickstarter results and the management of it proves the market for high sales is there.

Oh yes. Nico is now almost 28,000 viewers. I wished they all backed the KS but Japanese generally do not do fund via kickstarter, but there is something else that they use as highlighted in the last TweetYu Q&A.

Yeah, playing Shenmue and Shenmue 2 back to back really highlights just how much of an improvement even the 2nd game was. The controls feel better and the HUD is handled a lot better. Going from the intimate world of Shenmue 1 in to the busy city of Shenmue 2 can be a little overwhelming, but they both feel like Shenmue and they're both amazing. You really feel like you've just arrived at an unfamiliar city for the first time and it captures those feelings perfectly.

A lot of focus seems to be on the original Shenmue but Shenmue 2 is just as good, if not better. I love both games.

Wrong! I am a big fan of Shenmue and still haven't backed yet. Also have around 10 or so friends still waiting until the very last day before pledging. In fact, this is my first post in this thread too!

I know I have waited until the last minute to back Kickstarter projects in the past. You watch it to see what the consensus on the project might be (RED ASH for example, is a project I would NOT pledge to after seeing the reaction), and then jump aboard when the hype is just too much.

I think this was true for many with BLOODSTAINED. They saw the rabid interest of the fans, and simply saw the name so much... they felt they had to climb onto the train before it left the station.

I had to cancel my pledge because I really cannot afford it at the moment, but I'm glad this is likely going to hit the $5m and I will be there to pick the game up on day 1.

Many will up their pledges at some point before the end. There's something planned for the last few days? And there are those who wait until the last moment.

Made the mistake of starting Shenmue NTSC on an emulator. Do save file converters work? Using the arcade machines corrupts save files too. Probably should've just dug out the Dreamcast.

They need to update with add-ons this week. Some people can't be bothered to make new KS accounts but want multiple versions of the game. They'll be stupid not to do it.

I'm not worried about the KS funding.

What I am curious about, though, is whether or not we reach the maximum number of posts per thread before the campaign ends.

Nearing 35,000 now!
I do think doing this stream will add more pledges.

I'm looking forward to the last couple of days of this kickstarter campaign. I'm just happy to get a game made by Yu Suzuki himself. I hope we get a Shenmue 4. I'll kick start there next if need be. Hopefully that won't be necessary if SEGA turns a new leaf this TGS.

I think Shenmue I was yes more limited in scope, but more focused and detailed in terms of what was available for exploration down to the detailed texturing and characters. Both are amazing games though :).

So they've gotten the original Japanese actor who voiced Ryo in Shenmue 1+2 back for 3? Wow, that's cool. I thought Yu has gone on record as saying that he wasn't too keen on the quality of performances in the Japanese dub though. Maybe he was just talking about the supporting cast.

I haven't played Shenmue for a few years and I'm now watching the playthrough on niconico. Damn this is hypnotizing! I have things to do but it's getting hard to get away from the computer lol
