SSB for 3DS & U - Tourney Mode, Youtube Replay DLC Stages and Mii Costumes (K. Rool)

High quality SNES Cap Falcon costume would be amazing.

They could fit a whole bunch of humanoid pokemon in via mii costumes but I can never see the pokemon company being lenient enough to allow it :P

I was quite shocked to hear that pokemon Amiibo would work for Super Mario Maker so it's possible that we would get the pokemon sprites.

Also I'm sure that people would be happy to buy monster hunter costumes for Mii Fighters.

I have everyone on ignore; I'm just really good at guessing what the conversation is.

Also it's Friday morning Aus/Japan time, when can we expect this stuff to launch on the eShop?

Don't get your hopes up for that just yet. Pokémon technically work in Yoshi's Woolly World, they just don't unlock anything of significance. It's best if we don't assume anything until we see a screenshot (or footage) of any Pokémon sprite in-game.

I'm thinking 8 or 9 EST. That would make it early morning in Japan and the 31st in Europe, meaning all of the random time zones are matching with what's announced.

So many conflicting time zones ._.

Ooh! MH stuff would definitely work. Kind of a shame they don't have any fighter styles that really sync up with the MH weapons though, but then I feel they could've done a lot more with the mii fighters like extra movesets and stuff anyhoo :3

I don't believe it would be impossible, either. Specially considering that Dragonball has a pretty huge gaming presence and is a Bandai-Namco property.

Didn't remember that! It is no way a sure thing, but it is possible, hope they at least do a Goku costume! I haven't bought any Mii Costume, just DLC Characters and Stages, I don't really use Miis, but I would buy a Goku costume.

Goku Brawler would need to become the standard Brawler used in tournaments. It would need to be a requirement to run a tournament.

Bonus: Goku's Gi can work as a Krillin Gi as well.

Someone poster earlier about wanting a Kumatora Mii costume. That got me think about how the proportions of Mother characters would fit well with Mii fighters, much like the Mega Man characters. Lo and behold we get a Mother costume, just not one I ever would have suspected.

Though this would go well when playing on the Magicant stage.

I don't mind people making predictions, or analyzing perceived trends. I just wish more people would do so with a sense of humility, acknowledging that at the end of the day, anything and everything could happen, and we're all limited in how much we can actually predict.

Right. Which is where I was going with the sports game analogy. You know, there's time on the airwaves to kill, so let's throw it out to our expert panel to give their thoughts.

Expert 1: "Team A is really on a hot streak with the strength of their hitting as of late, and I think they are primed to continue their run. I think they're going to win."

Expert 2: "Yes, but Team B has their ace on the mound tonight, and if anyone can end their hitting streak, it's him. I really like their chances tonight."

Anchor: "Good stuff as always. Tonight should be a great game that we look forward to seeing."

You know, the experts have tossed out their thoughts, and now all that's left is for the game to actually play itself out and see who is right. It doesn't make for good television to belabor the point and act as though the analysis matters that much when ultimately whatever is going to happen will. All the lofty, in-depth analysis isn't going to matter when the game will be played and a winner will be determined that way.

Now, that doesn't mean that the analysis is altogether unworthy. After all, there's air time to kill. And moving back to this discussion, there's a lot of time between now and when the last DLC character gets announced. Am I saying that we fill all that time between now and then with no chatter? Of course not.

I won't pretend to be an expert, but if someone said "Steve, what are your thoughts on the chances of Wonder Red being a character," I'd be willing to respond. In fact, I can do that now. My guess? His chances aren't good. I think it'd have made more sense -- if Nintendo cared about Wonderful 101 all that much -- to include his announcement some time prior to that game's release as a means of cross promotion.

Now? Barring the announcement of a Wonderful 102 or something, there doesn't seem to be any driving reason for it. The game didn't perform that well. Nintendo didn't promote it heavily to begin with. Why wait until the game has been out for two years to include a character from a game that didn't do all that well?

Is it impossible though? Of course not. Maybe he'll be insanely popular in the ballot process. Maybe Sakurai and his team just become inspired by what new mechanics he can bring to the table. Maybe some other thing that I'm just not considering at all. I don't know. Who does?

And that's sort of where I personally feel the journey ends on the discussion. Some might agree with what I just typed. Some might disagree. But ultimately, it's out of our hands. If he makes it in? Great. If he doesn't? That's fine as well.

The game called Super Smash Bros. Wii U ported to NX. That won't cause confusion lol.
  • Super Smash Bros. 4 Remastered
  • Super Smash Bros. 4 Turbo
  • Super Smash Bros. 4: Championship Edition
  • Super Smash Bros. 4: Definitive Edition
  • Super Smash Bros. 4: Director's Cut
  • Super Smash Bros. 4: Daddy Sakurai Edition
Take your pick.

I want a costume for Cynthia and Iris (Pokemon). Red and N would be nice since they're pretty popular.

But most of all, I want EBA/Ouendan suits for Mii Brawler. I would pick up Mii Brawler if I could get that.

I don't believe it would be impossible, either. Specially considering that Dragonball has a pretty huge gaming presence and is a Bandai-Namco property.

Er. It's actually Bird Studio (i.e. Akira Toriyama) property. Bandai-Namco just has been given the rights to make Dragonball video games. Like how Yu-Gi-Oh! is owned by Studio Dice (Kazuki Takahashi), but Konami has been given the rights to make the card game and video games. Also, both Dragonball, Naruto, and other anime have appeared in Nintendo-published games before (Jump Superstars + Jump Ultimate Stars), just on that subject.

Somehow I just don't think Nintendo has it in them. Would be great though. Would suck for all this content to be left on the Wii U.

This all goes back to Smash Wii U being a crappy title to begin with.

Welcome back Ice Climbers!

They'll likely start from scratch for Smash 5 again (at least for the characters), so might as well release a remaster of Smash 4.

Super Smash for NX: Director's Cut

Play up on Sakurai's popularity as the director of Smash and include an updated game that "normalizes" DLC so it's in the base game and integrated into unlockables and custom moves and stuff and add a few characters that weren't possible on the 3DS.

Kinda what I meant by property, but phrased very badly on my part.

My Mii Brawler is Poo. Looks pretty good proportion wise to Ness. Slightly taller

You think any of these costumes will be bundled with an extra trophy ala Inklings? A Lloyd trophy and even a Tales remix (Fighting of the Spirit of course) would be pretty cool.

I think Melee is the only game in the entire series to be built from the ground up. I can't recall anyone mentioning data from 64 still being in Melee, and the scripting is entirely different from 64 from what I've read (while Brawl and Smash 4 are similar to Melee). Brawl has imported Melee data (including Game and Watch and Jigglypuff who have a slightly cleaned up Melee model rips) and Smash 4 has ample amounts of Brawl still in its files, and a whole bunch of characters appear to just be cleaned up Brawl models (Lucas, Ganondorf, Charizard, Mario, Luigi, Fox, Falco, etc).

When Sakurai said he starts characters "from scratch" in that one interview he did, he was specifically referring to character balance. He does rip assets and has spoken pretty openly with re-using Brawl assets. He even mentioned not only was Mewtwo challenging because he couldn't be ripped from Melee, but also said a ripped Ice Climbers from Melee might have worked, but he couldn't do it.

He's also talked about how one of the first things they do when starting a new Smash is up-port the assets they'll need from the previous game.

So he's been pretty open about re-using assets. There really isn't a "starting from scratch." Every Smash starts as ported assets and they work from there. They'd have to. Redoing 55 characters is ridiculous and a waste of time if they could be ported.

I hope so. I love trophies.

I wouldn't be surprised if they chose to to go with. Super Smash Bros. For NX (whatever the official name would be)

I think its likely that they'll re-release Smash for NX if NX is not backwards compatible, and possible that they'll do it anyway if it is. It'll sell, especially if it comes with extras.

Well the title isn't actually SSB4. Presumably it would just be called "Super Smash Bros. for NX," replacing NX with whatever the console's name actually ends up being.

The only problem with the "for NX" name is that people would confuse it for an entirely new game.

Throwback Galaxy is required on Peach's Castle :)

It has to happen.

These guys know what's up.

People harping on about the ballot...I'm 99% sure that all the characters coming out for this game were in production and confirmed way before the ballot came out. They're going to use the ballot as a way to gauge character interests for the next Smash bros title, and when this title's DLC comes out they'll just pretend that they thought it up by using the ballot.

I'm not going to lie, I do have a sneaking suspicion this is the case. I can imagine that Sakurai & team just wanted more time to work on Isaac, or Paper Mario, or Wolf, or some other character they assumed would be dominating the ballot. Because they thought these characters would win, they just started work on them prior to the Ballot. Then this K. Rool and Shovel Knight stuff popped up and completely blindsided them, and that this costume's just a response to this unexpected popularity without having to halt work on the characters they started to make K. Rool.

Granted, I still want to imagine that they're taking everything into consideration both for Smash 4 DLC and for the game's future.

Now watch the next character be Dr. Luigi with Ice properties. He can toss "L"s.

Hey, they had 4th Customs planned for each character, so if they ever add those in...

It's beautiful!

What if we wouldn't get brand new Smash for next generation.
That'd literally be leaving money on the table. The main reason that a Smash 4 Remastered is being talked about is because there's no way in hell that they'll get a new Smash ready for launch. A remaster of Smash 4 would only be a stop-gap until the actually new Smash game comes out on the NX platform.

The only problem with the "for NX" name is that people would confuse it for an entirely new game.

I think throwing some new subtitle or actually putting a 4 in there will cause more confusion than following the already established naming convention "for <Consolename>". Also it's way more likely that Nintendo would actually add content to the game before releasing it on the NX than just doing a straight port, more reason for "for NX" to be a totally viable title.

Well, I'm sure that would have come up during the release of the 3DS and Wii U versions. "Wait, what the fuck? Why does Smash for Wii U have the same characters and play exactly the same as this game I bought two months ago on my 3DS!?" I'm not saying that throwing some sort of "Complete/Definitive/Special/Whatever Edition" after "for NX" wouldn't be included. But I also doubt that there's serious concern that people are going to be duped into buying an NX port of the game without realizing that it's not Smash 5 proper.

The names "Turbo" or "Championship Edition" would have the same effect. Street Fighter II did the same.

It's just that you have to account for the average joe who may or may not know any better. Them & the kids are the ones you'd have to worry about for brand confusion. Though a fair point was brought up about the 4 being confusing because it wasn't the name of the actual Smash 4.

I have to wonder if that wouldn't cause fatigue for the series. Smash 3DS -and- Smash Wii U on 2014, DLC for both all through 2015, Smash 4 Remastered For NX in 2016, and then Smash 5 in, say, 2018?

The Pokémon company is not a subsidy of Nintendo.

Nintendo directly owns 1/3 of the franchise and owns an unspecified portion of Gamefreak's share as well. They also own all Pokemon trademarks and patents, solely.

It also doesn't change what I said. Nintendo still owns a portion of Pokemon and can't manage to actually use them for anything and that's extremely disappointing.

While a good number of people consider Smash 3DS & Wii U to be the same game with some different features, you may have a point with Smash 5 being out 2 years after the potential remastering of Smash 4.

I don't believe those people you are thinking own, or even know what a Wii U is

I don't think this will be a concern for Nintendo at all

As someone who loved Tales of Symphonia and who used to consider his favorite game, I'm really laughing that people are upset at the Lloyd costume. Lloyd was never a realistic possibility for a playable character, and people only ever got their hopes up because of a few Tales developers helping develop it on the Bamco side. I think it's pretty awesome that we're getting a Mii costume for him, since it's honestly way more than I expected

If Mii Fighter costume deconfirmations are the new POTD Assist Trophy deconfirmations, tonight will be a massacre.*

*I do not actually believe being a costume or AT prevents a character from becoming playable as DLC.
