Coon
(US, UK) a black person. Possibly from Portuguese barracão, a building constructed to hold slaves for sale (1837).[71][72] Popularized by the song "Zip Coon", played at Minstrel shows in the 1830s.
(Australia) An Aboriginal Australian[73]
(New Zealand) A Pacific Islander[74]
Do they still have the sub forum about hating NeoGAF?

someone should open a subreddit named cooncity and it beeing a fan page about resident evil. just to mock these lowlifesCoon is an antiquated racial slur used primarily in the south these days. It's surprisingly not derived from "racoon" but possibly from a portuguese word for a slave trading house.
A former mod of Coontown is threatening a black lady and a mod of /r/GamerGhazi and /r/BlackLadies and the admins haven't done anything about it:

Or even worse...a site where racist vermin and their hives of scum and villainy are shrugged off apathetically with half hearted appeals to free speech.Lol I just went to go check and it does indeed look like shit hit the fan over there.
I'm sorry but if a site has 21,000 people subscribed to a communitty called coontown that's enough for me to call it a racist site.

A subreddit for racist people who believe "the blacks are the problem" to congregate together and spew their hateful thoughts

Welcome to the home of the good boyz who dindu nuffin'. Make sure your subreddit style/CSS is enabled for maximum jungle immersion. We recommend reading the sidebar every month as it changes sporadically. Race realism, pragmatism, and a sense of agency: the foundation of a proper society that lacks the negro plague.
The fact that Reddit is just now banning groups like that makes me hope Libertarianism never gains a hold in the US government. I can just image that if politicians like Reddit's CEO were in charge the civil rights of minorities would be rolled back to the 1950's.
Question:
Would you have voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964?Rand Paul:
I like the Civil Rights Act in the sense that it ended discrimination in all public domains and I'm all in favor of that.
Questioner:
But...?Rand Paul:
(nervous laugh) You had to ask me the "but." um.. I don't like the idea of telling private business owners - I abhor racism - I think it's a bad business decision to ever exclude anybody from your restaurant. But at the same time I do believe in private ownership. But I think there should be absolutely no discrimination on anything that gets any public funding and that's most of what the Civil Rights Act was about to my mind.
Questioner:
And then it was extended by most to most localities to include all... Would you be in favor of just local--
Rand Paul:
On a local basis it might be a little different. The thing is I would speak out in favor of it. (pause) I mean, I look at the speeches of Martin Luther King, and I tell you I become emotional watching the speeches of Martin Luther King. I love it because he was a transformational figure... [...] (goes on to talk about Martin Luther King for a few moments)
Questioner:
But under your philosophy it would be okay for Dr. King to not be served at the counter at Woolworths?
Rand Paul:
I would not go to that Woolworth's, and I would stand up in my community and say it's abhorrent. um... But the hard part, and this is the hard part about believing in freedom is, if you believe in the First Amendment, for example, you to, for example-- most good defenders will believe in abhorrent groups standing up and saying awful things, and we're here at the bastion of newspaperdom (sic) and I'm sure you believe in the First Amendment, so I'm sure you understand people can say bad things. It's the same way with other behaviors. In a free society we will tolerate boorish people who have abhorrent behavior, but if we're civilized people we publicly criticize that and don't belong to those groups or associate with those people.

This was the /r/coontown greeting:
That's advocating genocide.
That's reddit.
What the actual fuck. I'm glad i've never even dipped my toes in Reddit.
What self-respecting website would ever tolerate subreddits like this. Holy shit. Why is this getting banned now instead of always and forever.

i think it's unfair that people blame reddit for what it's users do. It's a platform. People may choose to do shitty things with it. People are shitty, not reddit.

It's more "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you"Cowardly attitude tbh. You gotta know what your tools are used for. Eventually you're at least partially responsible for how people use your shit.
This is some "guns don't kill people people do" type ish.

Will that somewhere else be as large, popular and exposed as reddit? They're just going to move somewhere else.

If not then reddit made the right decision getting rid of them.

I'm glad they banned the hate speech subs. But banning the Loli/Shota subs was absolutely stupid and unnecessary. It's not even illegal in the US, where their servers are hosted.
That's reddit.
As much as I am all for freedom of speech, no matter how stupid it may be. I am OK with this... especially the child pornography forum being nuked.
Sorry no. I am all for the banning of hateful subreddits, but the banning of the subreddits you are talking about in the last part of your post was complete bullshit. There was absolutely no reason to ban it, when it's perfectly legal in the US, where reddit is hosted.
As far as I know, a ton of the Coontown regulars including at least one mod were black. There were certainly quite a few racists, but it was also a giant troll playground. Kinda like a Jewish acquaintance of mine who loves singing banned Nazi songs in public just to offend people I guess. Some people have a very weird sense of humor.

You're not going to find many here that are openly sympathetic to your cause. You can see how that material makes people uncomfortable, right? They're essentially children, physically. Coontown was a legal forum technically as well. Doesn't mean it wasn't a necessary culling.
If you're appealling to legality as moral campus you're blowing it.
"There's no reason to ban things that aren't illegal", your last sentence, doesn't track at all. Lots of things are legal and distasteful / gross / exploitative / troubling. In this case I'm so reticently sympathetic -- that loliporn has some value maybe for some people -- but you gotta motivate that value better than "it's legal".
I don't know if it's necessary, but it's certainly pointless. No racist stopped being racist, no troll stopped being a troll and no pedo stopped lusting for children. They'll all just move on and continue elsewhere. As long as the idiots on Coontown just write crap and the pedos are content with drawings, and nobody actually conspires to commit crimes, those subreddits are harmless and easy to ignore. And possibly ultimately a good thing - driving them away and antagonizing them certainly won't help. You're not going to find many here that are openly sympathetic to your cause. Oh, I understand why Reddit banned them. I'd do the same if I was financially invested. Doesn't mean I necessarily agree from a legal, moral or psychological standpoint.Reddit decided they were not harmless to their financial interests and junked them
nothing more
That was the exact opinion of those posting in Coontown. Doesn't mean the material they were actively posting wasn't fucked. The subject matter on whatever banned loli forum etc clearly was not something Reddit wanted to be part of. That's their decision to make and one I agree with, personally. I get you feel this is some sort of attack on creative freedom etc but choosing to defend the 2d banging of childlike characters seems an odd place to make your stand.Making people feel uncomfortable is not a reason. They were not attacking anyone. Also it's not CP, since they're not real, and therefore aren't even people. Drawings don't need to be protected. I am absolutely disgusted by actual CP, but I don't see a moral issue with this. Also, you're quite wrong that not many are sympathetic here, if you look carefully you'll see there are plenty who agree with me. I would also like to state for the record, that I myself do not consume the material, however I defend its right to exist.
