Point n Click Adventure GAF 2015 - Back with a vengeance

Has anyone played Dead Synchronicity?

Really intrigued by the art and the reviews saying how it's a very bleak, disturbingly violent sci-fi story

yes. Its really good. One of my favorite adventures of the year. The only problem is that it ends somewhat abruptly with "to be continued", but its still good for a solid 9ish hours of play, and it has very good music, voice acting, writing and exploration. Really just thinking about it makes me want to play through it again, and i am desperate for the next part of the story :P

For Adventure fans out there, would you recommend The Wolf Among Us or Syberia?

Both games are on sale on PSN. TWAU PS4 is $6.25 whereas Syberia is $6 (Syberia II is $4.50).

Anyway, I'm kinda almost done with Gabriel Knight 2. I'm also playing KQ7 in between. For some reason I still really like KQ7. I guess I was a big Disney fan during the time KQ7 came out.

I might dive into GK3 right after and Phantasmagoria in between.

I really enjoyed The Wolf Among Us. But compared to Syberia, which is a classic point and click, TWAU is more of an interactive comic book with QTEs. So, depends on the kind of game you feel like playing at the moment.

Just make sure you have two or three saves for Phantasmagoria. Saved into an unwinnable situation at the very end and ended up having to YouTube the ending. Also, you're in for a treat with some of the worst FMV acting ever with the vagrant mother and her son.

Pretty different games, so it's tough to say.

If you don't mind Telltale's modern style of adventure games, then Wolf Among Us worth playing. I think it's their best game (along with Tales from the Borderlands).

If you're looking for something more traditional, Syberia is always a great choice.

Yes and yes.

Man I have so many fond memories of GK2, probably beaten it 10+ times. KQ7 was my first KQ game; one of the first P&C games I ever played so it's still a game I keep dear to my heart.

Phantasmagoria is going to be fun.

Picked up on iPad ($4.99, good deal), and it's really enjoyable so far, but man, I've been spoiled by Machinarium and Botanicula. The animations here are really jarring.

I think with Syberia, I should also definitely get Syberia II because both form one whole story (AFAIK, Syberia 1 isn't exactly standalone), isn't that right?

From what I remember, they are relatively logical. Although keep in mind that you are in a nightmare-like world created by a computer, so some puzzles are a little bit abstract. I don't remember anything that made me go "what?" though.

How are the puzzles in I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream?
Convoluted and confusing, or relatively logical?

Game's on sale for $2.99 on Steam this week

it has been a while.... but prepare for some logic strain. The real problem being you have to do each of the scenarios "right" and it is not always clear what "right" is. If you dont do it right, you have to do it all over again. It is a neat game, and if you appreciate the short story its based on, you will appreciate this.

I wonder if GOG would ever get the rights to sell Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. Really think it's one of the great adventure games that got lost in the shuffle of Last Express/Grim/death of the genre. Does anyone here even remember it? Nowhere to buy it digitally tells me something.

Yeah, all Legend Ent. games would be appreciated.

Hopefully thi ones has some interesting puzzles, the first two were the precusors of the walking simulator genre.
Indeed. Just finished the first two. They're alright, but the few times I got stuck it was never on a puzzle (usually a phone call or hard to see other area entrance)... And the puzzles were barely there. Mostly you find items.

Yes, they're both critical.

Got my review build for Stasis. No embargo, so I guess I could share some thoughts

Played about 90 minutes so far. If you thought the alpha demo was good, you ain't see nothing yet

The puzzles are pretty logical so far too, which is always a plus for me

Atmosphere and music is fantastic

Hmm Daedalic games seem to be on a huge sale on Steam right now...

I wonder if i should just grab CHains of Satinav or the whole bundle for 15.99? Which other ones would you guys recommend here?

edit: as the above post stated, maybe i will check those out as well...

Awesome, I had no idea that we were close to release on this.

I didn't back it but will be picking it up as soon as it launches.

Finally getting around to finishing up Primordia and jesus, while I love the art design and music, the puzzles and back and forth, back and forth across a few screens once you get to
Metropol
is extremely tedious.

Also I preferred from a story perspective exploring the unknown dune wastes of the post-human-post-apocalyptic-robot remnants. It's still interesting but
Metropol turning the 2nd half of the game into just a city with a bunch of people and factions feels a lot more standard adventure game. Especially with all the goddamn bartering you gotta do :|

Not sure if I'm gonna end up being pro this one or not, will depend on how strong the story note ends.

Alright, finished it. The beginning was good and the end stuff was good. I really liked
the monocle text entry -> memorious manbuilt memento mori stuff.

Ending was kind of hmmm, so many endings which is neat, but even the best ending isn't super satisfying conclusion. It actually makes me think a sequel could work. Expand the best ending
where the ship is rebuilt and Horatio and his crew go off and explore the remaining remants of the world, maybe run across some sort of actual HOPE along the way. Because even the best ending is just kind of super nihilistic depressing, the world is dead, all that's left is a few robots who are going to fly around a dead world. :| It's fine, but I prefer a little hope in the endings.

Also I really liked how they retold the story of what happened through reading lines of code running. The presentation of the game was excellent, and the music was darn good.

But puzzles were...eh. The middle section with all the bartering items was just kind of boring. And silly stuff like washing cogs which just feel fillerish.

But yeah, was more good than bad imo.

I will always be in the minority saying that Deponia was probably one of my most favorite things from Daedalic but I do think you should get Chains of Satinav and Memoria. Both are memorable games.

Wow just noticed some things are like 99 cents lol Damn.

What exactly did you like about it so much with all the backlash it's been getting? I decided to get at least the first Deponia, so if i like it i could always grab the others later on...

If you're going to PAX you can get one of these posters signed by Tim Schafer.

Well the series really shines towards the end but yeah try it out. I loved the art design and the puzzles for the most part were interesting although a little bit on the hard side for me. I donno, I just know that I had lots of emotions towards the end and really need to replay the series now.

Yea, I'm enjoying it for the most part. Though the low resolution of the game destroys the beautiful artwork. Really disappointed with that.

Wow, super disappointing. The image quality itself is poor even if you downsample/run in 4K? Hope that's just some type of bug.

Can't wait, Stasis is almost here! Oh man I scanned through some of the Lets Plays from the site just to get an idea and I was wondering if you'd be running away from monsters and stuff since it is horror and all but through the 60min video (didn't watch it all) it just had the creepy atmosphere and stuff. Either way I'll play it but I was just wondering.

It's awesome so far. I'll be posting the OT tomorrow

Here are some tantilizing Twitter teases from people currently playing it:
I just finished Stasis. That was some fucked up shit. The best kind of fucked up shit.
Compared to Dead Space
It's horrifying in its own, more... personal sort of way.
---
The amount of grey hairs that I've developed since @StasisGame started playing mind-tricks on me is astounding.
---
Love the atmosphere in @StasisGame. It seems all fun & games until things get a lil unnerving. And then something scares the crap out of you
---
Ok so first 30 mins of @StasisGame oozing atmosphere, rocketed me back to the 90s in all the right ways.
Some late night time @StasisGame. So thick with atmosphere.
---
@StasisGame holy fuck I almost had a heart attack! Shame on you!
---
Playing @StasisGame...and oh fuck, I have to do what? I think this just might top Dead Space 2's eye needle moment
---
Finished @StasisGame this morning, still ruminating. Tis a good feeling.

I'd like some ideas for the Armikrog OT tag. So far I've thought of these and haven't decided which to go with but if someone can come up with a better one I'll happily go with it.

Meet my blind alien talking dog Beak-Beak

Go on an adventure with puppets and clay

Spiritual successor to The Neverhood (not really crazy about this one since I'm not sure how much of GAF is even familiar with The Neverhood)

Armikrog - Stop Motion Fun for Everyone

Maybe reference Earthworm Jim? You may run into the familiarity issue again, though.

No kiln necessary. Or something about joe head joe. Maybe hotdogs?

Actually... don't pay attention to me. I'm not too good at this.

Thimbleweed Park just did an update to showcase lip/head movement, but what was to me almost as interesting was that Ron used the initial KS scene to showcase it, so I thought I'd show gaf how far the game has come artwise since then:

We kind of saw the new scene in the gamescom video, but that was zoomed in and blurry.

Project has been running for about ten months with another nine months to go till release.

Does anyone know when the heck Silence: The Whispering World 2 is coming out? Says first quarter this year all over but we're hitting the third quarter soon...

It was delayed until 2016. It's going to be released simultaneously on pc and consoles (first time for Daedelic iirc) and it uses a new 3D approach so i imagine they needed a longer development time for this one. I've been looking forward to it ever since it was announced.

A couple months ago there was a call for closed beta testers. According to the dev blog the closed beta ended one month ago (1, 2)

I suppose that doesn't answer your question of when it's coming out. I just checked Daedalic's site, and...

Silence will be released in 2016.

edit - already posted while I was typing up my reply. :)

Damn i have never heard about this one... but, Ron Gilbert? That screenshot there?

Sign me up!!

Thanks for the ideas. I really like "Stop Motion Fun for Everyone" so I may go with it but there's still a week left so I'm open to others.

Wow, what a big improvement with that background. I still need to figure out something for the phone message. I have no idea what to say but there's still quite a bit of time left before those are accepted.
