Point n Click Adventure GAF 2015 - Back with a vengeance

The Last Night, and yes the devs are expanding it into an open-world cinematic platformer

OMG I can't.

Must live long enough to play this game.

...the release date was pushed to the end of the month.

thats either a joke or a misunderstanding :P
I havnt seen any announcements that its been delayed more. It was already delayed: to tomorrow. Steam release date still says september 8th, so i believe we're good.

Backer update went out within the last hour talking about game breaking bugs and the need to push it to the 30th

Check your email if you backed
Edit: beaten :o

UGH, yeah again. Why do they keep waiting until the last minute to push it back a month, geez. Surely they must have known a few days ago.

oh ok, must have misunderstood you... thought they were done but the devs were still kinda expanding them with additional content.

In this case though, i can't wait to get my hands on them :)
Should have clarified. Both were originally entries made for game jams, and the devs are expanding those prototypes into full-fledged games
You can play the game jam versions of Badass Inc and The Last Night here

Has the Grim Fandango PC version fixed in the meantime? I recall there being quite a few problems initially...

Plus if i have NO time to play it at all right now, maybe i should wait for it to go even cheaper :(

I wasn't aware of there been any major bugs. I played through it twice when it originally came out and only experienced one minor bug that fixed itself.

Same here, played it with no problems at all. Runs like a dream.

Edit: I remember something about a bug when it first came out where your character could get stuck in
a door in the restaurant
, but I definitely know they fixed that. Not aware of any other bugs.

Right, maybe it was the Vita version then where i heard lots of complaints early on...

To those who think it won't get much cheaper over time... you must be new to Steam ;P

I can wait a little longer, i've waited like 10 years for the remake or more even ;)

nah, a game like this from doublefine... again unless theres a bundle... you wont do better than 75% in the next couple years. And if youre waiting for 75% to save a buck... shrug.
I can see where its not a high priority anyway if youve played the original. I wouldnt consider it a drastic upgrade.

It's a text adventure rather than point n click, but has anyone here played or heard of Hadean Lands? I've read nothing but praise online and was wondering if there were any GAF impressions among the adventure fans

iv thought about buying it. I guess the pc version is currently just a file that needs to be opened with a text interpreter. Theyr making a steam version that runs "out of the box" so to speak, so i think i might wait for that.

A buck is a buck ;) and when you own as many Steam games as I do, then yeah, there really is no rush to play it right now. There simply isn't any time left even though i'd actually love to play it right now. Some day though!

I realise this will read like a troll, but I'm deadly serious.

If Wadget continue to release games of the quality they have been for the last several years, they'll easily become the greatest adventure game dev ever, taking the title from Lucas Arts.

They're already getting close.

The only thing that would make me think twice about it is the fact that maybe Wadget's best games aren't quite on the same level as Lucas' best games, but in terms of quantity they're putting out great game after great game. I will buy any adventure game they put out without hesitation.

Any thoughts on The book of unwritten tales 2? It's coming out on console this week and i'm interested in another adventure (just bought Broken Sword 5 for console aswell). I started the first one but gave up on it rather fast (too fast?). I didn't find it funny iirc but maybe there were just too many references to fantasy movies/games that i didn't know about?

Wadjet Eye is easily the best developer of modern adventure games but I wouldn't go that far. I miss Lucasarts' lighthearted comedy too much. And Wadjet Eye's voice acting all sounds the same after a game or two.

Basically, my only problems with Wadjet Eye come down to budget. Hiring good comedy writers is expensive (even finding them is practically impossible) and a Lucasarts-quality cast would cost even more. I don't think Wadjet Eye's sales could possibly cover it.

But they absolutely found a great niche. I buy everything they put out.

I also don't find the first game very funny but I bought the second one anyway. All I can say is that their production values went way up. The writing seems about the same. There are still tons of references to other books and games and all of the major characters returned.

I should really play more than two or three hours. But, you know, other games.

its very good. If the comedy from the first one was a deal breaker, i dunno you might not like this one either. But IMO the series is worth more than humor, the story is also good and good puzzle design.

I always feel like Wadjet got big enough to start creating their own engine, but it still hasn't happened. Maybe their audience is too small to justify the costs still?

I don't feel like any of their games goes beyond good.

I like them but they all just feel nice.

Of course I haven't played all of them and I won't be surprised if they eventually make a really great game that I will love.
