How it's executed matters not one bit. As I said, the very concept, the very idea, is terrible.

Reviews also said MGS4's story explained everything and did so well. I couldn't give any less fucks about what reviews say, especially when it comes to story.

Again. Your writing off the story because it doesn't do what YOU like and that's ok. We've had fans play and review this game and they seem to feel after the true ending. Everything is wrapped up.

I wonder if we'll get the traditional ending codec, but with a twist like tradition merits--Big Boss calling Solid at the start of Metal Gear!

IBut, there is a way that it can be done right. Real BB betrays Venom in the end after he goes through all the bullshit and BB takes his accomplishments. It absolutely has to be that way.

That isn't "right" to me. That is just as awful as every other way it could play out.

It's not a matter of doing what I like. I've enjoyed plenty of fiction that doesn't conform to some set of standards. I don't have expectations when it comes to stories, I often dislike things for no other reason than it doesn't appeal to me but it's objectively written well. This is neither for me. I'd find it bad and nothing more. "Fans" said that about MGS4 too, while I thought it was wretched garbage written and executed terribly.

Nope. The execution is absolutely relevant and could make or break the story.

If it's done terribly, and I have a big feeling it will be, Kojima should never get credit for this game. I'm giving all the credit to the actual people that worked on the game and made it amazing and not the guy that ego stroked his dick all over it because he wants to be the star of the show.
Jesus, guys calm down. Was this the reaction people had with MGS 2?

Kojima has always written nonsense and magicked it away with a wave of his hand. VS not being BB is pretty in line with the stories in this series so far.

On a scale of 1-10 how good is it? Im typing off PS4 so Can't watch lol
It's pretty good. He skips the fight tho because "he knows what they're capable of."

Am I insane?? Why is this video different from the one that was posted on kinda funny games youtube channel? Did they strike a deal with gamespot for them to get one of the videos?

This seems to be part one while part 2 is posted on the kinda funny youtube.
Greg for some reason uploaded part 2 first.

Again you have no idea how it's executed to say that. You just don't like the idea of it so you find it shit.

Nevermind the reviews that have played the game plus the full ending says it ties up everything and is satisfactory.

But to each his own. I personally love the idea I'm playing as someone else and the real Big Boss is using "Venom" as a pawn.

I don't, I wanted to play Big fucking Boss in the moment he became a villain. This feels incredibly cheap to me if this is all I'm getting. It's liek if Breaking Bad just decided for the final season to not have Walt but just some guy who looked like Walt.

I love how nothing about Ground Zeroes' tactless and poorly told Paz and Chico story really set most fans off, but a Kojima game where you don't actually play as the main character? Well FUCK to that.

Not to say there's no overlap or anyone who thinks one thing thinks the other thing, or vice versa, I just mean general fan sentiment is leaning in really weird ways. I feel the tone in MGS5 has already been completely dysfunctional from trailer number 1 and I'm more or less just in it for the ride.
Chico and Paz's story isn't fully their in GZ since the game assumes you played Peacewalker.

Jesus, guys calm down. Was this the reaction people had with MGS 2?

This is a bullshit comparison because MGS2 doesn't do anything even slightly close to what MGSV might.

People making assumptions about a game they haven't played and don't have the full context of the story without tapes. With game so story centric as MGS I knew people would act this way.

I'm not making assumptions. I'm talking hypothetically. If it doesn't happen, then fantastic. If it does, well then I can be happy that this series finally died.

You don't need to know their story. The
torture, rape and mental illness
simply isn't written well.

...What? You do realize that nobody knew you'd be playing as Raiden up until the game came out, right? All of the marketing material--all of the trailers were about Solid Snake.

The situation is almost exactly the same.

Except Snake and Raiden don't look the same, are two separate characters with different abilities, etc.

A fake-out with a different character central to the story's themes isn't the same as "oh there's this guy you never knew about who happens to look, sound and think just like the protagonist."

It's not so surprising considering Skullface's story is also terrible. Coming up with new characters and then shoehorning them into past events where they never actually did a single thing is another sad excuse for lazy writing.

Except you know literally nothing about Venom Snake, nor about the way Big Boss thinks at this point and time.

He doesn't sound like Hayter-Big Boss, he might not even think like Big Boss. It's understandable that your jimmies are rustled, but goddamn. You know absolutely nothing about either character's mindset (if there are, in fact, two seperate entities) at this point and time--especially coming out of a "9 year coma."

I mean, shit. I'll put money on Ishmael being the part of Big Boss's subconscious that was rallying against him doing all this really dire shit that we know Venom Snake is going to be doing.

Not knowing anything about Venom Snake is part of why it'd be a shitty plot. Sutherland voiced Big Boss (and the Medic) in GZ, Hayter is absolutely not a valid excuse at all. Voices barely mean anything in this series to begin with.

I don't need to know anything about Venom Snake as the very concept that there's someone we've never known, seen, read or heard about who looks, thinks and sounds like Big Boss and also has his "soldier genes" is absolutely puerile, no better than Kojima's no doubt childish excuse for Quiet's lack of clothing--- because there is no excuse, hypothetical or existing, that would make it tasteful. Just as there is no excuse that would make not playing as Big Boss but some no-name clone/twin/surgery'd soldier suddenly a good idea or well written.

What bothers me about this possibility is the main character, the main guy, and the focal point of everything in this game is Big Boss and we're not even gonna play him? Just some guy nearby or next to him? I don't want that to be what happens because that's incredibly boring. I want to play the main character's story. The journey of the person the game center's around in some form or another.

I don't some new for this game only story to retcon stuff that is someone else's. Raiden wasn't Snake this is true, but MGS2 was still HIS story. It was about HIM. The S3 Plan was being tested on HIM. He wasn't there to take the fall for Snake, he was there being an integral main part of the story that made sense.

Here, at the apex of the story when it's about the conflict between Big Boss and those in the way of his dream why would I want to play as some other schmuck?

re: Quiet's tumors, she is very lucky that they are impressive, symmetrical and look very nice in a bikini. This might become the next big plastic surgery trend in Hollywood - 'Hey, ladies, want bigger breasts? Have we got a deal for you! Tumors!'

Kojima, you are a very unique fellow. I'm not feeling too ashamed of my words and deeds, however.

As someone else noted, breast cancer survivors are not gonna be too happy.

Eh, while I suppose it'd lack the semi-meta involvement of the S3 Plan if Venom Snake was someone else it'd still be BB's story if he's the mastermind behind the events and manipulating etc.

I wonder how the internet of today would react to MGS2 if it was being released now...

Edit: As for spoilers or not, I'm surprised no reviews (tbh I only skimmed three or four, I'm not too bothered about devouring them so i may have missed it) have gone all Polygon on Quiet.

Lots of pages in this thread, so forgive me if this has been discussed, but did we ever learn whether there is any truth to all that Eli being Liquid speculation?

Do you have a link that confirms this? :-)

No horn and scars? The real Big Boss?

Pretty sure that was from the Reddit spoiler thread. Someone mentioned how Quiet isn't male or female, she was a first attempt at creating the skulls, and her breasts are actually large tumors from the parasite.

Wow this is awful..

Anyway again with the discussion about the doppelganger.

That would be completely to the story's detriment if you're actually led to believe you're playing BB but you're not. It doesn't serve the overarching story at all, and it completely ruins the point of the whole game which is suppose to be a biopic of BB.

No horn and scars? The real Big Boss?

Certainly a possibility, but it could also be a flashback sequence to something in the MGS3 era. That sneaking suit and bandana are nearly identical, and in Ground Zeroes and the MGS V footage out there, there's no visible earpiece and radio wire which might further suggest it's a flashback.

Has anyone watched Greg Miller's playthrough?

http://www.gamespot.com/videos/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain-kinda-funny-le/2300-6426643/

About 5 minutes in, the guy literally hints that we're not playing as Big Boss. It's fucking real. He just spoiled the biggest twist the series has ever seen.

I noticed this too and it's at 4:50.

Robert Peeler pretty much burns a hole into the side of Greg face with his stare after his says it.

Then Greg follows it with "A lot of shenanigans in this game" ;-)

This guy said that he found it on Giant Bomb, and Giant Bomb haven't even posted a review yet:

http://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearso...megathread_refresh_2_any_unofficially/cud91xc

So it appears just to be speculation from the forums at the minute, as it certainly doesn't come what we've seen in the guide. And this is coming from the guy that pretty much started this idea on here ;-)

Indeed, the "female" skulls are dressed almost exactly the same as Quiet:

UiTFi0M.png

And the "sacks" on their chest come from some kind of biological experimentation.

Even a guy has them:

So maybe they aren't boobs at all? ;-)

And apologies for the double-post, please don't ban me ;-(

Kojima admitted that himself years ago. It's just a shame it's not looking at least good.

That's just your opinion, for me and a lot of others, these spoilers are making us want to play the game even more.

That's not to say your opinion isn't as valid as anyone else's, but a little consideration of others point's of views goes a long way when posting :-)

I've been nothing but considerate and have reiterated that it's my personal opinion. Just because it is negative does not mean I am forcing it on anyone.

Sorta this but I don't think he's being dismissive :P

Regardless of my misgivings about the plot, the gameplay seems super fun and I can imagine having a lot of fun in MGO (Believe) with friends etc and i've always enjoyed MGS for the crazy, taken its seriously enough to get invested in it and enjoy things but not so seriously that I fall over backwards defending every zany twist and needless Shayamalan-ism.

I think I'll enjoy the heck out of the game but I suspect 2 and 3 will still be cqcing for my favourite of the series.

I just think you're being slightly antagonist in your wording, but if you feel like that's not the case, then fair enough. I'm not a mod and it's not like I can do anything about it :-)

It appears to be from the "25 Years" of Metal Gear trailer that Kojima has edited, so it could be a Fox Engine render of a Snake Eater/ Peace Walker era Big Boss ;-)

True, hadn't thought of that, especially since Kojima said this trailer would be spoiler-lite.

He kinda reminds me of an eye-patched version of Young Snake from MGS4 though. The trailer drops tomorrow?

Second episode seems much more spoiler-free. I'm betting the Konami PR guy he's playing with totally blew up and told him to knock it off after they recorded that first episode.

Do we seriously think the FOB system and gameplay will be behind a paywall of some sort or is it just on PS+? How have we not heard or seen anything in regards to MGO and future DLC at all yet? Other than the brief scene in one of the trailers, we haven't heard anything about competitive online content at all.
