I guess Konami was going to kill the series anyway, regardless of what BS Hideo was gonna write so yeah

I feel kinda indifferent to all of this now tbh

I understand the uproar. This reminds me of when Doc Oct took over Peter Parker's body, then mind... But the comic was praised.
I can't speak on this because I have not seen the execution.
But even without seeing, I dig these turn of events. Let's be honest, we robbed ourselves of a moment from experiencing this twist off a thread.

Why are people so mad? Big Boss is still a villain. This shit actually makes him seem worse; he makes this loyal soldier do all this fucked up shit and then has his son kill him to tie up loose ends. And then he goes on to do more horrible stuff in Metal Gear 2, in which he is incinerated by hairspray. This game seems to be about dismantling the legend of Big Boss and revealing that he's a shitbag puppetmaster warmonger coasting on the accomplishments of others. Depending on execution, that sounds pretty neat.

Well i have to ask now that that is out, can we consider this a worthy twist for the series?
No need to get personal just on a scale with the other twists in the series. Is this a grand enough ruse to make people angry like every other ending in Metal Gear?

It's classic off the deep end Hideo nonsense that everyone will eat up and enjoy once they get more context by playing the game.

........ can't get any worse than this, hopefully. I don't think I'll ever praise MGS in my life ever again.

To be honest the more I think about this, the more I like it, and I really feel like this will be a thing in time, or after playing the game, people will get over their kneejerk reaction.
I always thought the concept of Big Boss sending Snake to kill....Big Boss was kind of weird anyway.

The Patriots ordered to send men to destroy Outer Heaven. Big Boss, as head of FOXHOUND, could do nothing but follow the orders.
Nevertheless, he wasn't stupid. He had a Metal Gear to complete and he tried what he could to buy time. When Frank was captured he leaked fake informations about the fail of the mission, so that he could send the least experienced man he had, Solid, hoping to slow down even more Patriots' actions. Unfortunately for him, Solid was good, so he tried to kill him sending him into traps, but it didn't work out.

Sounds like it to me. Though I wasn't actively reading forums at the time I played MGS3, so I have to ask what pissed people off about that ending?

So boss and the medic are both in comas for 9 years in Cyprus? They both wake up in time for the attack? Or boss stays in Cyprus to manipulate the medic?

Not to big on wasting all the time building MB as a fake, then killing everyone?

What a waste of time, it's a 60 hour game right?

It could've been done a whole lot better by simply having Big Boss kill Venom Snake at the end.

I think following the ruse cruise for the last 5 days will end up being a better experience than those who play blindly 40 hours just to find out about this ending though

Who agrees to this list? :3

Oh so Venom Snake is Big Boss in Metal Gear 1?

That sort of makes sense.. of course I'm beyond the point of defending any Kojima does in a MGS game story-wise :P

I also like Kojima leveraging the series' liberal use of code names to hide the twist under our noses. "Venom Snake" being just another codename BB picks up, lol.

Exactly lmaooo. People are just mad they aren't playing as their "hero" Big Boss and this honestly reveals him to be a shit person no different than Zero.

I've never played any previous MG games, and I don't intend to since I really don't have that much time on my hands. However, I'm super interested in MGS V. Can a newbie just jump in and still enjoy the game?

It's not the ending exactly , it was just that the story of the boss and her sacrifice was completely new and never before mentioned in the previous games. People liked it generally. But some didn't like to care about something that was made up for the prequel after the rest of the series up to that point.

I was admittedly mad when the switch happened in MGS2. That tanker mission was so good. But this doesn't bother me in the slightest. Maybe it's because I always preferred Solid over Big Boss,

Well it depends. The one that actually talked to Snake over radio and trained him in Foxhound was still the real Big Boss, the one who meant a damn to him personally. And he's still credited with Zanzibar Land so ultimately he still must be in charge of the whole Outer Heaven thing. He still must be a villain.

But yeah... not liking this twist.

Funnily enough, haven't the skeptics that said Big Boss got enough development in MGS3 to be the villain and think MGSV was unnecessary kind of won here? Even though I'm sure they will still hate this twist.

I've been repeating this forever. Fukushima is the man who made MGS great, as soon as he left things went shit. I'll open a thread on this topic after MGSV, when the hype is lower.
By the way, Fukushima killed by the Yakuza is a bad joke or what?

The hairspray symbolism is deep when you think about it.

You better not play with fire when you're trying to put on a facade (as one does when making their hair defy gravity) and fool people into thinking you're someone you're not...

Or something.

I do find it funny people feel so betrayed saying they'll never praise the series again.

Guess what?

The fanbase didn't praise MGS2 immediately either because no one understood it and said it was too confusing.

Then you have MGS4 which literally shit on the series. A game Kojima didn't even want to make and it showed.

But somehow this is the worst thing the series has produced? Nah this is good. It ties it all up and this series is finally complete.

I wanna go to the alternate universe where the internet was huge and MGS2 got leaked, the salt about Raiden would be mammoth, mastodonian, gargantuan, herculean.

Strange how none of the leaks so far have commented on the theory that Skull Face isn't real at some point.

For some dumb reason you seem to believe that all those people are the same.

As big a fan of Kojima's that I am (Snatcher was really fun and pretty well written for a pastiche of cyberpunk manga and movies that it was), it is pretty obvious Shuya Murata, his new co-writer after Fukushima left was obviously not a very good replacement at all. Kojima also worked alongside a new writer for MGSV though, so we'll see if MGSV improves upon the writing in MGS4 and Peace Walker...

I always figured it was Fukushima who wrote the CODEC and Radio scenes since after Fukushima left there was a massive drop off there in MGS4...

Odd that the credit thing uses the old Outer Heaven logo. That's an odd choice.

Also, how does the post-game work? Just keep playing at Venon with the Diamond Dogs? Or does it turn into Outer Heaven of some sort.

Excited to see everything in proper context.

So Kojima ruined MGS2 and MGS1 with MGS4 and his nanomachines shite he pulled. He has now ruined MGS3, PW and MG1 with this game and the whole nanomachines as well as a body double theory.
Holy fuck. I'm glad I read this here though because if I would have witnessed these revelations while playing on Friday I would have smashed the PS4 up, killed whoever owns the shop I'm buying the game from and went prison, free from Kojima's bullshit.

Big Boss said this to Solid Snake in MGS4

" You have already killed me twice...today will mark the 3rd"

Sigh. MAJOR RETCON. Really kills MGS4's ending.

Did you rike it?
