"This basically confirms that Nintendo is publishing Shovel Knight in Japan. As only Nintendo characters are made into amiibo."
Shovel Knight not being a Nintendo game is the reason why the amiibo packaging has the "Nintendo licensed product" seal instead of the Nintendo logo. Duh.

One mistake in the article. PushDustIn said that the Amiibo pretty much means that Nintendo is publishing Shovel Knight in Japan. 8-4 Play is actually publishing the game over in Japan.

I'm 70-80% sure shovel knight is coming to smash, as a mii swordsman costume.
Also no fan base knows the true struggle compared to snake, and he's even a veteran.

I just want actual Nintendo characters in a Nintendo fighting game. Shovel Knight still feels very off and doesn't fit in. I mean, imagine if SK got into a game like Marvel vs Capcom. That kind of fighting game is meant to celebrate IPs that belong to those specific companies, and guests should be guests and a big exception. Just doesn't seem right.

I mean there's every reason to believe Shovel Knight will be in Smash now if the sources saying he was getting an amiibo were also saying that he'd be in Smash as an independent thing. The only weird part is that he's apparently either getting two Amiibo or the design for the package is fake.
Is it? I mean I like Shovel Knight but saying he isn't on the same tier as Sonic, Ryu, Pacman, etc. or that they would prefer a Nintendo character instead (if you prescribe to the "slots" notion) don't strike me as douchey things so much as either just straight facts or personal preferences.

According to the sources (which have now been verified by Smashboards mods and Source Gaming), the design of the Amiibo is just a mock up.
Having this verified by two other sources, one of which has a reputation to keep, really makes me think this is happening.

Seems odd for a mock up considering it comes out relatively soon. No other amiibo with a solid date have had mock ups and then the real thing shown.
I'm saying that as if Gamo.co.uk used something they were handed and not something they just made up.

According to the article, they're just speculating on that. It just seems off to have this as a mock-up design; it looks good enough as it is! Plus, it really sounds like Shovel Knight's Amiibo is meant for his own game. My money's on this being its own thing, but that Shovel Knight still has a good change to get into Smash.
I was starting to doubt Tamaki, but you're right about Source Gaming. I really was hoping we'd get a left-field character in leak-free; Rosalina, Robin, and Lucina were the only newcomers that were revealed without a leak, to my knowledge. They weren't guaranteed to get in, but Shulk, Duck Hunt, Ryu, and now possibly Shovel Knight would've been mindblowing if they were revealed without any build-up. My only hope is that there's one more surprise character coming alongside the Ballot picks who doesn't get leaked prior.
Rhythm Heaven is HUGE in Japan & is a cult hit in the West.
Keep in mind the mods aren't 100% on it being sure, but based on what Tamaki showed them, they believe its real.
Also I pressed them for more details, such as whether or Tamaki confimed his source isn't and impostor, and they told me they can't speak about this.

Could work with shovel knight, and if it's useable in smash that doesn't cancel out other game appearances. Mario Kart and Mario maker come to mind as well. If Nintendo is making a amiibo, I don't think it's a stretch that it could work with more than just one game.
Well since Tamaki is saying the second (and last) DLC character beside Shovel Knight isnt K Rool, Waddle Dee, or Snake....then many of us would believe its Wolf....which is no surprise here.

My thinking is that the Amiibo that went up on game IS the Smash Amiibo, it just is a mockup of a generic Amiibo box art.
I will never give up on Shovel Knight for Smash. The best 2D Platformer deserves a rep.

If there are two characters left, that would make some sense as the Wii U CSS is set up for two more characters and after that, resizing it gets a little awkward.

I think that's still missing the point though. You're not wrong at all! But if the retailers say they know he'll be in Smash (which they're definitely saying according to SmashBoards right?) I think it's pretty natural to assume that something about the retail item (amiibo) mentions Smash functionality. In order for that to be the case, it would have to be in the Smash Bros series, right? Unless the retailers are seeing a separate listing for like a download voucher or something, but I don't think they do stuff like that do they?
If it is a Smash series amiibo, I think it would be silly that it would only unlock a mii fighter costume in smash bros.

An anonymous source reached out to me on Twitter yesterday saying Shovel Knight is absolutely coming to Smash and that I can "quote them on it." Of course I don't believe anything like that sight unseen, and I let them know as much, but they proceeded to give me very, very specific details about Shovel Knight's supposed moveset and stage - too many details for them all to be lucky guesses.
Who knows if any of it is true, but they also said he's getting revealed at PAX... so at least I don't have to wait long to find out if they're full of it or not. I have reached out to them again in light of the amiibo getting leaked, but haven't heard back yet.
I'll keep you guys updated, for anything this little situation is worth.

Could easily be the same source other guys are getting it from. I imagine if you're using an anonymous email to leak anyways (be it real or fake) you might as well send it to a ton of places

I've yet to post in this thread but I'm always curious when people are reached out to. I love Shovel Knight and while his inclusion to Smash would certainly be surprising, I'd would be okay with that, even if the character hasn't been around too long and the spot could go to someone else. Either way, a Shovel Knight amiibo would be tops.

This has certainly been the most bumpy leak Smash has had. It's full of ups and downs, plot holes and everyone seems to be a part of it.
Anyway, if an indie gets into Smash that would be an absolutely monumental thing. YCG must be giddy as hell knowing SK is in Smash. It also means LOTS more sales for the game, almost instantly, as people from Smash flock to learn about the series.

Man, I hear you. At this point, I'm going to be so disappointed if these rumors don't pan out. SK in Smash would be so damn epic.
I mean, that's good that you believe, but exercise some caution! Remember, I have no idea who this source is. They haven't proven themselves to be legitimate at all. It could just be a random troll who wants to watch the world burn.

The 3DS Screen is already full so that doesn't mean anything. Plus we get a bundle of four fighters as "bumdle #1" so there should atleast be four more characters.
