"Boss, Train with me!"
*Proceed to CQC him into oblivion*
"Thank You , Boss!"

Humble and Grateful even when catching a beatdown.

Skullface is just as cartoony as I feared.

"You and your friend will die here!"

"Behold, this is the day weapons stand UPRIGHT!!!"

"I'm taking your legs back!"

That death scene will be glorious.

Quote me.

Uhm.. thanks god I love every second of gameplay I've seen because I still have to read a good thing about everything else ._.

So I really think we're meant to hate Big Boss for what he did in this game. If we the player are supposed to self insert as the medic... even if it wasn't "his" idea he goes along with it, even escorting Venom out of the hospital. All of the trailers have indicated that Venom despises Big Boss for what he's done. I mean we believed in him as a leader, and a hero. He was a great man... and our character sacrificed himself to save him... only to be betrayed and forcefully changed to fit his needs as a tool. I like Venom as a character - kind of an Anti-Hero... He's a broken and shattered mess of a person, and it's all the fault of the man we/he looked up to and idolized. So many of us wanted to "play as Big Boss" in this game, and we get fooled. Everyone attempts to reinforce Venom as Big Boss... but something just isn't right. Venom seems so unsure of himself all the time. His arm gone, his mind tampered with... etc. Upon the realization that Venom is not Big Boss what would this do to you? It would likely trigger a psychotic episode, and irrational thoughts...

To completely take away and alter a life, and memories of a man who trusted you so much, that shows what kind of a scum bag you are. A lot of people say what Big Boss did was kind of assholish - but we KNOW, that it's more than that. He took his most "trusted" man who did a noble deed... for the man he believed in... and he destroyed him for his own selfish purposes. Whether those purposes were to control things from safely afar, or not... as a soldier, believer, and friend to this man, the way he executed this plan AGAIN even if it wasn't his idea to begin with... shows how he views his own soldiers... they are his tools.. pawns... and he showed that in creating Venom, one of the most interesting characters in the game... The latest trailer even has the many faces of Big Boss up to Venom, who we then see with no face... and then as Skull Face... because they parallel one another so well. They are both tools to the men they looked up to.

By going along with this Venom stuff Big Boss has exposed himself as a hypocrite. He's no better than the higher ups who used him to take down The Boss, no better than Zero or the AIs who molded Raiden to their needs.

Which then makes sense for Venom to set up Outer Heaven, to expose Big Boss to the world as a monster, even though it will cost him his life.

In theory after Outer Heaven, Big Boss cannot hope to build anything ever again without someone coming after him. (Which is, of course, what happens. )

Yeah but in the end you're still playing with BB.. though story wise he's a clone. Its in terms of gameplay the best MGS and I am really impressed by everything I've seen.

Its just that the plot isn't really my cup of tea. MGS2 initially wasn't either, but with the digital age ushering for real just a moment later I've came to appreciate it more. But I doubt I'm going to appreciate the twist of MGS V anytime. I understand MGS has been about nobodies achieving legend status, but Raiden was built up with training and with a past relationship (Rose and Solidus). The guy had a backstory and I didn't mind playing as him.

BB also had a backstory in MGS3.

Medic really has none. If we had played as Medic in GZ and PW, THEN the Medic gets stripped of his own identity to others benefit would've shocked me more. Probably.

If i'm honest, though you can find stuff where Hideo might've taken this idea from et al, I think Hideo is a hack when it comes to writing. Its no coincidence that MGS1 -3 had the best script. 4 jumped the shark, PW was outright bad. Its exactly the point where his best man departed. A comparison can be drawn with Sally Menke and Tarantino. I felt his work with Menke was edited far better.

See the thing is, if I can be absolutely honest here... as badly as this story fits into the lore - etc. I love it. I don't know what it is about Hideo's writing style (I like Tarantino's newer stuff) but I love the zaniness of it... It feels like a badly written 80's thriller... and something about that has always made me love MGS. I mean I won't defend his work to the ends of the earth back as being "ART!" because I really don't think it's what most would consider as much... but his cinematography, and his ability to direct cheesy hammy action makes my inner kid/teen smile. This game deals with "darker" themes... which is really meh, but I still think I'll enjoy it.

Pretty much, that's exactly how I feel about it. This does prove how messed up he is. I mean maybe he just had the power go to his head... we'll never know. However one thing is for certain... Big Boss is once again the villain - which I've been waiting a while for.

Huey Kills Skull Face LOL

Thanks I appreciate it.

Is it wrong that I wanted him to be cartoony?
For me personally it's like having a character from Dr.Strangelove appear in Battle of Algiers.

Huey Kills Skull Face LOL
Shook me up. I wasn't expecting those images to suddenly appear on my screen. Oh my lord. But seriously tho do we really need more proof that the spoilers are real? :|

I just wanna know one more thing.
In one of the early trailers of MGSV there was that scene where Kaz(?) and Snake were both on one horse riding through a forest area, everything is on fire, Snake shooting enemies. It's at about 25:30 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv-5EbCI0OA

I assume that's still in TPP, and actual gameplay, yes?

Wait, so what is Big Boss doing during this time? Creating Outer Heaven?
This conversation was datamined from the game and more or less answers your question:

C=15]What was it all for...?$
[C=15]If the Boss has some plan, what is it?$
[C=16]The real Big Boss is working separately from us, to create his new nation.$
[C=15]New nation...?$
[C=16]A military nation above and apart from all - the true "Outer Heaven."$
[C=16]Something created to maintain world balance. Independent of the struggles for supremacy, for personal profit, $the cycles of revenge between countries. It'll be an army all right, but more.Big Boss is building a nation.$

[C=16]But... until it's complete, we support the other Big Boss.$
[C=16]The phantom carries on his legend... his meme.$
[C=16]That, is Big Boss's plan.$
[C=15]So that's the way it is.

[Kaz]...Nine years ago, I thought everything had been taken from me.
[Kaz]But now, I really have lost it all.
[Kaz]The Boss, and the future we were building together.
[Ocelot]One day, the age of Big Boss's sons will arrive.
[Ocelot]They'll likely want to settle the score with him.
[Ocelot]We have to shape that age. We'll each have roles to play.
[Ocelot]Building the foundation for a revolution led by
both Big Bosses - the true one, and the phantom.
[Kaz]No...
[Kaz]Big Boss can go to hell.
[Kaz]I'll make the phantom and his sons stronger,
to send him there.
[Kaz]For that... I'll keep playing my role.
[Ocelot]Huh. You know...
[Ocelot]Sooner or later there will be only one Boss.
There's only room for one Boss.
[Ocelot]His sons are fated to face each other someday too.
[Ocelot]If the day ever comes that you go back to Cipher,
I'll aid the other son.
[Ocelot]And then you and I will be enemies, too.
[Ocelot]One of us will have to kill the other.
[Kaz]Fine by me.
[Kaz]I'll be ready for the new age.
[Kaz]Until then, we'd better get used to coexisting.

I just wanna know one more thing.

Yes. That's Ocelot btw.

Skull face was well done in GZ. But i've seen the sahelantropus scene and i expected more of a reaction towards Snake, the man he wants to kill so bad. He's only talking to Huey, and doesn't seem to give a fuck about Snake.

So I've watched about a dozen people play the motherbase intro mission now. Every single one of them has had no idea what to do when Ocelot says, "Select weapons/items under the development header." Then Ocelot chides them like they're stupid for not realizing you have to go out of the menu they just made you go in.

does anyone know what the mission number of the first ending is? How many numbered missions are just repeats of earlier missions?

I'm starting to get the impression that the theres a lot of filler in this game.

Huey actually kills him? It looks like someone stole the Metal Gear and rampaged around and SF just ended up dying.

Where is the concrete proof that Venom is actually "The Medic" specifically? As in, someone says "The Medic" in game or the word "Medic" is actually referenced in relation to venom's character?

He's being referred to as the guy who took the blast in front of BB. Which is the guy cutting Paz open, having his face hidden and VA of Kiefer. He is Venom.

I also think there is dialogue calling him a medic.

That conversation between Ocelot and Kaz sounds terrible. Like something straight out of fan fiction. I hate all the foreshadowing, like Ocelot can know the future with detail.

"The sons are destined to fight each other".

So much bullshit.

You're the guy who defends MGS4 to the death. That game had way more offensively bad dialogue.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like reading the future to me if part of the LET project is culling the weaker variants. They're probably going to fight at some point in that case! I don't know how it can be something from fanfiction either since it actually happened in the other game.

It reads like fanfiction purely because it does happen in the other games.

Yeah, I kinda dislike when prequels do that "wink wink" foreshadowing stuff.

Metal Gear was always Anime™

~~

Also, alot of people were mentioning how the ST-84 is all hi-tech compared to the Rex and Ray(When the launch trailer came out)...but the truth is the Rex and Ray were never that hi-tech to begin with, in terms of purpose. REX was always just a mobile platform that needed an armored ground unit in order to not be wrecked by one person with an anti-air launcher, RAY is likewise only meant to be able to take out stationary Metal Gears/Lightly defended Metal Gears. Even Arsenal Gear/Outer Haven needed full land, air, and sea support in order to function properly. The ST-84 compared to a mobile nuclear stealth platform isn't all that scary, especially since it seems to be lacking decent anti-air defences.

That's a rant.

It reads like fanfiction purely because it does happen in the other games.

It's setting up for the game that takes place in the future chronologically, and it was written directly by the developer, so... no? Call it bad writing if you need a reason to hate it.

Fanfiction to me is something like... the people wishing Skullface was Decoy Octopus or Quiet was Chico or whatever. A realization of wishful thinking in an attempt to pander to like-minded fans. This is just a small easter egg, for you to go "oh, I know what they're talking about!".

The fact it was written by the developer has nothing to do with me saying it's written like fanfiction. I'm dissing the writing by saying it's as bad as fanfiction, even if it's not fanfiction.

Small easter eggs that make you go "oh, I know what they're talking about!" is basically the definition of fanfiction. To me anyways.

MGS was always Rambo/hollywood movie/anime crossover fanfiction anyways. I figured that out as soon as Lee Van Cleef's Angel Eyes got his arm cut off by an anime cyborg ninja.

It's just confusing because you're not using direct terms. You could just say it's shitty fanfiction if you really need to "diss" the writer rather than an entire genre of writing, because apparently plenty of people think fanfiction can be quite good though or else we wouldn't have '50 shades of grey'... everything.

I don't know. This derail is kinda dumb. I didn't think it was that bad though. What's wrong with callbacks or foreshadowing in this instance, specifically, if you don't mind me asking? in detail I mean. Why does it irk you so much? Inquiring minds and such..

When you kill one of your fellow mother base soldiers, the game restarts from checkpoint and Ocelot says "You're not the Big Boss we had hoped for".

Lots of hints in the game that you arent big boss lol

After reading the spoilers, I think it's kinda funny how when you kill mother base staff, Ocelot says, "Maybe you're not the Big Boss we hoped for after all." He says this as early as mission 2.

From GAF, two phantoms were born

So why did Big Boss choke wheel-chaired Zero in MGS4? That was actually medic and not BB?

Based on the conversation between Kaz and Ocelot, what makes Kaz hate Big Boss suddenly?

Because he spends money on Mother Base, Metal Gears, prosthesis for himself and Huey but doesn't spend a single penny to give the poor Kaz a new arm to play his damn fiddle.

He caught Big Boss tearing down his anime posters around the base.

Or this ahah

Also, do they ever explain the nickname 'Saladin' for BB? That's what Wolf calls hims..

No need for explanations. Saladin is a Turkish hero of the Crusades, a hero for those people. For Wolf, Big Boss was a hero, that's all.
