Attention those who pricematched at Best Buy in January!

A lot of you will remember Wal-Mart had some errors on their website last winter that made a bunch of games significantly cheaper than full price. They eventually honored the mistakes and many of us were successful in price matching via Best Buy.

Well, I went to pick my order of the game up today, and they said it wasn't ready because their system said the game hadn't released yet. After exactly one hour and five minutes of waiting for them to figure out what the fuck was going on (while half a dozen other people successfully picked their copies up), they eventually cancelled the order.

The manager was nice enough to give me it for $40.88 as originally, but would not apply my GCU discount-- no problem, I realize it's one or the other. However, she also specifically said I would not be getting my 500 points ($10 bonus) because the original pre-order was cancelled and this new purchase was not a pre-order.

What the fuck? Did this happen to anyone else? I didn't ask them to cancel anything and can't understand why they couldn't just grab one of the 40 extra copies of the game they had to fulfill my order instead of just cancelling it.

I'm really pretty pissed off, and I know I'm irreparably fucked on this whole thing considering Best Buy's abhorrent customer service. For the record, I ordered nine games during that pre-order and this is, so far, the only issue I've had.

Sorry if this has already been discussed; just got in my car and felt like venting.

I also can't wait until the enemy starts adapting to my tactics.

You won't be smiling when it starts happening. A large number of enemies I face now have gas masks and helmets.

What an incredible game. There I was thinking, 'Man, Smoke Grenades are so OP! Chuck one at three guys and they can't do shit while you run up and wail on them'.

Three hours of gameplay later, every second or third guy I encounter is wearing a gas mask. And what's worse, you can't face-tranq them with a mask on. Only back-of-the-head tranq works. So if a guy spots you, Reflex Mode doesn't even save you.

Just staggering game design. Absolutely fucking staggering.

So you tried to take advantage of an obvious pricing error and it didn't work out as smoothly as you wanted? Not sure what you expected.

Xbox One version here, and encountered a very annoying bug which is starting to really ruin the fun for me.

Basically the sound starts to stutter (like Witcher 3 had/has too) and i lose control over Snake. And he then automatically moves into a direction. This website spoke about it as well and they explain it better.

''Another concern I have pertains to the game's performance. Now and then, the game will sharply lag, disorienting audio and dropping frames. I've experienced it perhaps once every 30-60 minutes. During these periods (maybe 2-4 seconds), the game continues to roll, remembering your last controller input and ignoring all others. In a tight spot, it's conceivable that it could have you involuntarily wonder out of cover or put yourself in a dangerous situation.''

Wait, the game actually adapts to what you do? I had no idea. I was head tranqing everyone, and now there are a ton of helmets. I just assumed that happened because I was encountering harder enemies. However, I never used gas and I've yet to see a single gas mask 40 hours in.

Awesome stuff!

Also, I didn't realize smoke grenades make people choke... gotta use those more.

Did you bother to read my post, or were you just bursting at the sides to make a clever reply without actually understanding what I said? I expected exactly what any normal price match and pre-order purchase leads to, which I've done dozens of times.

If this seems shady somehow to you, Wal-Mart quickly honored the prices and Best Buy willingly price matched for thousands of people, as did Amazon for an entire day on their website. Plenty of people here were able to do this, judging by the threads back in January.

I've picked up 4 of the games so far from that order, and didn't have an issue. Forget the price matching altogether-- that was just for context. Why the hell would they cancel my pre-order at all, just so I couldn't receive the $10 bonus?

Played for nearly 6 hours now, I've got 2 questions so far.

1) When do we get Quiet?

2) I doubt I'll get an answer to this but worth a shot.

Any indications on the campaign length and how essential the side ops are to it?

Yeah man! It's insane!

Seriously, start using smoke grenades. It's a game-changer. If there's a room with 3-4 people in it, throw a smoke grenade in. The guys will try to run out the way but smoke will go off and they'll all be stuck on their knees, clutching their faces. Run in and CQC-throw all of them. You're also invisible to all other enemies obviously so you can quickly escape out of the smoke and ambush others.

I S-ranked the 'Eliminate three commanders' by chucking a smoke grenade into their meeting room when they finished their conversation, stunning them, killing any guards who came running in, then getting the commanders in a jeep and pegging it.

Why are there credits after every mission? It's really annoying. It's not even the time it wastes because they go by really fast, it's just really really egotistical.
Like a lot of stuff Kojima does, I'm assuming maybe it's a reference to something. I don't know. Is he trying to make it like you're binge watching a tv show maybe?

Or maybe it's just his ego. I don't know. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually.

You can skip it by pressing X for PS4 or A for Xbox.

I'm assuming the grenade makes a ton of noise and throws the entire base into alert, right?

I'm now sending teams out on combat ops to sabotage their gas mask/ammo supplies. Let's see if this works!
And as I type this, I've just seen DD pee.

It's a wonder this hasn't been implemented in other open world games such as Far Cry (although that has more of an emphasis on shooting rather than stealth).

What are the abundance of decoys supposed to counter? Good scouting? Because on a gameplay demo before release the decoy stays on the HUD which I could imagine would be really annoying for those players who love keeping track of everything lol.

Post Mission 25 -
So, there's an infection spreading through Mother Base and it's asking me to assign infected to the quarantine.... is there, realistically, any way to tell or am I supposed to just keep going with missions until something happens?

just keep playing, but try to stick to missions that are about the infection

People sure do love throwing themselves through the windows of buildings when on fire like that will help. Happens alot in everything.

Oh.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

It all makes fucking sense now.

I love how fluid the transition between stealth and combat is. It's not an automatic death sentence to be spotted, and killing a few guys, having to improvise when things wrong, and making a daring escape while an army is bearing down on you is a thrilling, emergent way to play.

There's still the supreme satisfaction of pulling off the perfect stealth mission, but for my first play through I love that I'm able to slip up here and there and not have to reload a checkpoint because there are so many ways to tackle any given situation.

I also can't wait until the enemy starts adapting to my tactics.
The range of ways to tackle objectives is staggering, a few times I've just thought fuck it and gunned 50 guards down, calling in the bombardment and support chopper. Soooo fun, although I go back and S rank it lmao.

Seriously though, you don't wanna wait trust me, the enemies will adapt to EVERY tactic.

The game will funnel you into a situation with Quiet, unless you're very unlikely and take a roundabout route for something.

Non-full spoiler about Quiet's location

If you take the Western-most road to the power plant you will encounter her at some point.

Full spoiler about Quiet's location:

She's at the ruins due West of the power plant. Or if you wait until Episode 11 (main mission) unlocks, you can get her by doing that mission directly.

Why are there credits after every mission? It's really annoying. It's not even the time it wastes because they go by really fast, it's just really really egotistical.

Just skip them every time, man. press X.

It's meant to be like a TV show. Sometimes it works.

I'm assuming the grenade makes a ton of noise and throws the entire base into alert, right?

Not at all. It does alert the guys nearby, but not like a proper base-wide alert. More like a confusion/awareness alert. It doesn't make any noise.

Has anyone used the companion app? Useful?

Apparently brilliant. Imma download it before leaving work atm.

All the infected soldiers have something in common, just saying.

You should (do this and enjoy the missions and story, please :)

Put everyone in the quarantine station

And the answer is (BIG SPOILER):

Kikono (or something like that, I don't remember but it's something close to that. Is the language that infect the people, that's the Skull Face plans for the world, kill everyone from their language.
If you put all the soldiers who speaks Kikono in the quarantine station, Miller will congratulates you.

Yeah I want to know this, I'm on Episode 6.

Also how long before Ddog becomes available to use ?

Quiet:
SE of Power Plant, then Side Op on MB later

DD:
Head back to MB every 2 missions it so to check. There's 2 cutscenes, I believe the first is halfway to him being grown up.

Holy shit it sure gets dark at night, love it.

I also just wanted to say that this game probably has the best implementation of a weapon wheel I've seen. Splitting it into categories and putting accessories (flashlight, suppressor) on the same menu makes everything super quick to flip between with the d-pad instead of having everything on a wheel when you just want to flip between pistol and rifle.

No it's a side op.
Cheers

Yea, it's silly as hell. I thought they had gotten rid of it when the last previews came out but apparently not.

Whenever I had an issue with bestbuy (and i had alot), I'd post on their bestbuy unboxed forums or whatever they are called, their social media reps have helped me out every time, mostly with not getting points i was supposed to get.

Four hours in. My review:

Also my best gunman is in the brig. How do I get him out?

Double also, is there anything to see in Mother Base? It's just a bunch of ladders and closed off areas. Anything interesting to see or place to go only after a few missions?

lol, I don't think it's meant to be that dark, can you see anything?

Yeah on my monitor I can see everything but it feels right, it feels like night and I like it. Even if it might be a little darker due to monitor settings (but I don't think it is). I dislike bright nights in games, they are too common.

Can you make the white [new] notification dot under staff management go away? It doesn't disappear when I view the new staff member.

Is there multiple save slots in the game? My brother's been playin And Im about to jump in and try it myself but he mentioned he doesnt know if I can start new game without deleting his save. Is that true?

Anyone know if it's possible to
visit D Dog at Mother Base while he's still a puppy? Ocelot mentioned that he was lonely and I should go see him, but I can't find him for the life of me.

The "spoiler" is early game, I'm only about 2 hours in.

Use a different account on PS4, should work.

Yeah bright nights are too common, if you can see what your doing then carry on doing it that way, it'll make those night infiltration a feel more realistic!

Decided to give Ground Zeroes a run before The Phantom Pain and GZ feels so much better as a product now that TPP is out and it can be weighed against that. It's also much cheaper now...

So in my first mission to Afghanistan Ocelot told me I could get rewards for capturing animals, so I went off and developed the capture cage but don't seem to be able to equip it. Do I need to have an animal storage area on Mother Base before I can capture/extract animals?

Also, does it every rain in Afghanistan, or is it always dry & sand stormy?
