Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

No glitches, and HBAO+ looks FAR better. About a 10% performance hit compared to SSAO Extra High. Totally worth it.

So I should diable AO in the game completely and then turn it on in nvidia control panel? What happens if I leave it on in the game but then turn it on in nvidia also?

Yes, turn if off in-game and enable using the game profile in the panel.

Not sure what happens if you turn both on, but Nvidia advises against it. Not sure why you would.

So I installed it and now my game is stuck at the "logging in to servers" screen

It's been like 5 minutes, not sure what to do

Servers are having issues right now. You can start it in offline mode to play the campaign.

Is there any way to turn off anti aliasing?I'm using Google a 4k monitor so it's a bit unnecessary.

Turn Post Processing to Low.

It probably does not work. Disable in game (set to off) and then follow the Geforce guide on how to insert HBAO+.

I dont know why I would either, I was just curious about what would happen. Thanks for the help!

Tonight I'm getting home earlier than I expected so I may be able to play this a couple hours. I'm hoping I left my computer on to download the game but I fear I may have put it in sleep mode.

What does the 'Motion Blur' setting do? Is it recommended to leave it on?

It introduces blur to fast motion in order for it to look more realistic. In some games it is also used to try and make lower framerates look less bad. I think it's entirely up to what you like. I prefer to turn it low or off.

Fun Fact: The movie Transformers 2 was rushed out the door so fast that they could not complete all the CGI. One example of this is a large portion of the final battle in which they did not have time to introduce proper motion blur, causing the CGI to look noticeably more fake than the rest of the movie.

I asked earlier in the thread but I don't think anyone noticed it. What's the best thing to do about AA? The default post processing makes things blurry in the process :/

So I have a r9-290 with an i5 3570k but I Tend to get 45-50fps at 1080p most settings at ultra apart from lighting shadows post fx and effects being at high. this doesn't seem to be representative of the performance others are getting :( anyone got any ideas?

edit im a moron. had my cpu downclocked for downloading while i was at work. forgot to turn it off. cpu was locked at 1.6ghz ! full 60fps now!

How do I confirm if it is?

Games usually sync with the cloud on launch and exit. If you delete your save files then launch the game and find your save is still detected inside the game, it's downloading the save from the cloud before launching (as you would expect it to on a new installation of a game).

You can disable Steam Cloud just for now, to test it out.

It's still dreadfully slow. I wish they would have bound the speed to the upper limit of the sneak speed like you can get with a controller. It's the biggest issue I have with the kb/m. Hopefully someone smarter than I can find out what file the speed is bound to and let us make the necessary adjustments.

I prefer the kb/m too. Feels so bad ass to pop out of cover and easily headshot a small group of 5 guys and have them all fall essentially at the same time. Really makes Snake feel like a boss.

Also. Is anyone getting extreme amounts of judder when trying to pan the mouse around during cutscenes? It's terrible. As a result, I'll tend to not look around during these moments and that's kind of a bummer.

I just played some, and yeah, you move like a snail. I'm getting more familiar with the controls and had a good time doing a side mission, but the menu navigation with a keyboard is a hot mess. Just being able to use the mouse would help a great deal.

Mouse looking stinks in cutscenes AND when zoomed in during gameplay.

Finally got to the open world area. At the start.

Getting a solid 60 fps at 4K with all settings maxed, also using HBAO+, FXAA, forced AF x16, and HQ texture filtering.

First time running a game on 3 cards, so far the performance is nice. Don't notice any micro-stuttering, and all cards are between 45-55% load so far.

Probably end up shutting off the in-game implementation and inject another form of AA though Reshade.

Is anyone else experiencing severe stuttering in the Emblem Editor? The rest of the game runs flawlessly for me on max settings on a pretty average system so I was wondering if the stumbling editor was a common issue.

Apologies if this has already come up, I didn't see anything on the first page.

Is DSR supported in this game? I didn't see the option to go higher than 1080p in the menu. I'm sure DSR is enabled currently on my nvid control panel end since I'm using it in another game.

Also: Is there any current way to get rid of the horrible shimmer aliasing that I noticed during the intro cutscenes? When I was in bed there was this horizontal bar on the other side of the room that had horrible... whatever it's called. Shimmering jagginess or something. I was hoping supersampling would reduce the impact of it at least, but if there's no DSR I hope there's some magic fix I can force...

I know it's a steam code in a box, but does anyone know if BB is carrying the physical release? I want this on pc but I can use GCU if it's the box

What's the deal with nVidia and color calibration?

When I first installed Win 10 I calibrated my monitor. It makes a huge difference. Everything was fine for weeks. Then recently I notice the colors are faded again. If I reload my profile it stays for about a second, then disables back to faded colors.

The exact same thing used to happen in Win 8. I'm sure that it's nVidia software. Anyone know what to do?

As far as I know, EU exclusive for physical

You may need to re-enable it if you installed the Game-Ready drivers. The other game may still be using the high res because it's already changed it's settings before DSR went away, so it reads like ResY=3820, ResX=2160

Anyways just go re-enable it in the NCP. It supports DSR

DSR does work, make sure you have Fullscreen mode and not borderless window. THat should help clear up a lot of jaggies, but not all of course.

So mission 5 ( a really fucking long mission) crashed twice on me right towards the end. I was enjoying the game a fuck tonne and really impressed with the port up until that point. I have no overclocks of the sort so I have no idea what its crashing.

Not happy. The Checkpoint system just throws you back to the start no matter how far along you get (and I was right at the end after about an hour or so of patient stealthing).

My game won't even start. Get the steam "Preparing to launch" and then my portrait goes from the green "in game" back to blue. No indication of anything wrong or any kind of error.

Launching the game through GeForce Experience usually enables DSR for me and the aliasing might be the lack of temporal AA

$95 card for me! 200 - 85 (Free MGS V: TTP + first forward operating base LOL) - 20 rebate

When I replaced my 560ti withthe 960 and started up Ground Zeroes for the first time with everything on high and it ran beautifully @ 1080p I had the biggest grin on my face.
Ha! Congrats that's really a steal, grin completely justified :)
i have a grin too because i bought my 970 for 329€ - 60€ the witcher 3 - 60€ mgs v= 209€ hehe ;)

Anyway try these settings

Everything on Extra High
Shadows - High
Effects - High
Post Processing - High
DoF - Enabled
Motion blur - your choice, doesn't really affect performances (i put it on medium cause i find it a bit "disturbing" on high)
Volumetric clouds - No

According to my friend you should get locked 60fps with these settings. Tomorrow i'll tell him to try hbao+.

Thank you. Which compatibility setting are you using to get HBAO+, by the way?

Compatibility setting? The game has it's own HBAO+ integration in the newest drivers released yesterday.

I have Ambient Occlusion set to Quality in the MGS: TPP profile in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Am I ok to run everything to the max @ 1080p with a GTX970 and an i7-4790k? I just started to download the game I was away for the day T.T

I tried this, I think it's stored in the cloud because when I loaded up the game I got a screen reading "Failed to create save data. Exit and delete save data." Weird....

Denuvo guys just said it does not , but no way of really knowing and testing yourself as even cracked denuvo games doesnt have this protection removed , only emulated in some way. So you can't test it and prove or discredit it yourself.
And I just dont trust Denuvo crew at all as they are pretty much renamed poeple behind SecuRom, which was almost as bad as StarForce iirc, and from what i heard even some ex-crackers)

Phew... Gosh, I've been holding off on installing this. Can anyone else chime in and double confirm this. I have a new install/clean pc and don't want to ruin it.

Ah, I see. You're enabling quality AO in the control panel, then disabling it in game? I assumed it was through Nvidia Inspector, force of habit.

Does down sampling from arbitrary resolutions not look worse for you guys than native 1080p? I did it with Life is Strange but couldn't hit 4k while still maintaining a good frame rate, but intermediary resolutions looked super blurry.

This game is giving me crysis flash backs, and that is awesome.

They really shouldn't, perhaps change the blur % factor if you think they are too blurry.

The Geforce guide says to turn off ambient occlusions in-game when enabling HBAO+. But there's no dedicated AO option. What do?

So ironically setting my mode to Fullscreen with VSync enabled as opposed to my usual go-to borderless window with no v-sync drastically improved my performance. Im running everything max at 60fps instead of having slowdowns with the window mode. Its usually the opposite.

I have 4770 with 2gb 770 and 16gb ram.

It think it looks great. Downsampling to 2560x1440 from 3413x1920. Using 25% DSR smoothness setting.

Did you get the latest drivers? It appeared for me under game profiles in the panel.

Everything maxed out at 1440p on a 980Ti. Locked 60FPS 99% of the time, but there seems to be some stutter while rolling on dust. It causes weird frame drops. Same thing happens when "something" causes dust clouds in the first Afghanistan mission. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm getting dust drops as well I think.

Titan Xs @3440x1440. My GPU usage is only 30% on each card, but I still get the drops.
