I just fired 17 people

fuck those E E E E E E E bastards

I feel like im recruiting cool soldiers but all that shows up is waste?

I didn't fire anyone. Either Miller fired them, or they left out of shame, but I have an army of B+ rank soldiers ... I think.

I might go around Mother Base and analyse soldiers to see their ranks. If they don't have at least a B I'll fire them.

Perhaps it's because I've played a lot of this today, but missions are kind of repetitive. Not much map variety, and the objective is always basically find thing/person/prisoner and bring back thing/person/prisoner.

This is how I feel now that there's no story to carry me along. I'll do a few side-ops here and there but there's no reason to play 2-4 hour sessions anymore.

So what would be a good first addition add-on for MB? What's everyone going with?

Also, can you not play music anymore when your helicopter comes in for extraction?

I dismissed about 30 people before lol, all scrubs. But that's when I started to play and I was just taking everybody. Once you get the scanner to see people's stats you start to pick people more wisely.

you should check em out for their "specialties". one is straight up getting other soldiers sick. gotta get rid of those

Nah.

I love how sparse the cutscenes are, considering how shit Kojima is at pacing them. Also isn't having the focus on the gameplay what everyone has been asking for?

I agree with some that the opening could have used some editing. Some parts were just tiring to go through a second time.

only weird people

i come to mgs for crazy kojima shit. he expresses that best through cutscenes and boss fights.

So I want my friend to play through the opening to this game in a few days(and also see the pre-title sequence) but is it true that I need to overwrite my data in order to play the beginning again!?

face the music fox, it was like a 2 second flash and especially in a kojima series nobody knows what the trailers really mean. glad it's probably a minor spoiler guessing by context but still, you shouldn't have said it without tagging
Yeah my bad, a few were openly talking about it earlier on and I didn't think to tag it. Sorry :(

I don't know how useful it will be, but I got the actual Base Development strut built first. They procure materials which I figure will help speed along development of other struts, requiring 1000+ of a given material just for the first add-on.

Playing the first mission, Episode 1, trying to rescue Kaz, and I got discovered. But I didn't see any UI that made them switch into "alert phase" or some equivalent. And they never seemed to go back to normal afterwards the way they did in Ground Zeroes...is this not the case?

Tempted to just forget all the stealth and murder everyone.

I can't get close to anyone without alerting them.. no matter how slowly and low i walk. How am i supposed to silently take people out with melee when they turn to see me everytime? :/

Yep.
Or make another account in the PS4 (i don't know what can you do in other platforms)...

Kiefer sometimes sounds bored as fuck, lol.

I mean, I like it. I'm obviously having fun, I'm just not sure the experience holds a candle to the tightly crafted previous games in the series.

question for Extract Wandering Mother Base soldier side op:

how?? I used up all my tranq ammo and it didn't seem to do anything, I can't punch him because he punches quicker and knocks me down and diving at him doesnt seem to do anything. I even shot at him in rage and that did nothing either. Did the mission bug out or am I missing something

Don't get rid of low rank guys in case they have a specialty you need.

Sneak up on them and get headshots.

Use your tranquilizer gun in first-person shooting mode.

Use prone. It adds much more to your hidden factor than crouch walking.

Check your corners by manipulating the camera.

Use night vision at night.

If you're gonna go for an up-close take down or you want to hold them up, you need to crouch walk and go slowly. Crouch walking and going maximum speed will make them hear you.

I just did that and it was a pain in the ass. I got lucky and dodged his melee and was able to get off a couple punches but it probably took me 20 minutes to finish that.

I can't select some of my staff. Their checkbox is crossed. What does that mean? Are they busy doing something?

You have a little time to knock them down with CQC (R2 on PS4) if you're playing with reflex mode. Also, you need to get closer to them with the crouch walking method.
Is always better to put to sleep them before get closer, so you also prevent to get caught by other surrounding soldiers.

Are you supposed to beat Missions relatively quickly? I just got to Mission 5 and have not played for that long.

Are you doing side ops, listening to tapes, or built up your MB? You can definitely go fast if you just want to beat it plain and simple.

I have played for 7 hours and just beat Mission 5.

Concerning the opening scenes...

What was going on with the avatar choices? Am I Big Boss or what?
So confused lol.

I think that's just for MGO. You can change it at any time in your iDroid > Mother Base > Customize > Avatar

I don't know if this is what you're referring to, but some members are on Contract. They cannot be fired or reassigned. Most can be manually checked off Contract status.

It should show a Lock, though, not a crossed box.

So tell me this, GAF. In a game about revenge, wet-work, and a heavily fortified base with an R&D team devoted to developing lethal weapons, why do kills factor into my score at the end?

I'm simply never going to use lethal weapons. Why give me all those options?

Metal Gear has always been kind of strange that way. I remember when MGS4 came out being kind of in awe of the crazy gun porn Kojima made... and then I proceeded to use about 2 or 3 guns throughout... tranq gun like 90% of the time. Same thing happened with Peace Walker, and I'm guessing here too.

Literally nothing beats infiltrating enemy outposts while listening to classic 80s tunes. This is so unbelievably satisfying.
