Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

Any way to get this game to run on a direct x 10 graphics card? Ive been able to change a few things to allow the game to even launch, but i get stuck on a black screen with occasional noises which i assume is the main menu

I'm just waiting for mods for that framerate unlock and more importantly FoV unlock.

That 59.9fps cap seems to give me an odd stutter every once in a while, would like to just remove the cap and use rivatuner to limit it to 60 like I did with GZ.

Everything Maxed out 4K on my Samsung 50JU7500, if you're in the market for a PC monitor/TV I highly recommend it. Yes I know 50 inches is insane, but Amazon messed up my order and upgraded me from 40 to 50 for the same price and you don't say no to free (Unless it's hounds with bees in their mouth).

SLI 980 Strix's 60FPS, occasional little drop to 50's, but rock solid most of the time. I did do HBAO+ and turned off AO in-game. I did turn on Post-Processing to Extra High for now, it looks better that way, but I may just try high based on the guide from NVIDIA.

There is no way. The game is a DX11 game, a DX10 card simply can not run it.

When people say "maxed" do you mean all settings turned all the way up? And by running "flawless" do you mean 60 fps with no drops? Because I literally have everything maxed and am dipping into the high 40's at 1440p. I have a 5960X and 2 Titan Blacks. It's 56-60 the majority of the time. I'm just having trouble believing people are maxing it out and running it flawlessly with a 970. One of those words isn't being used literally.

Kepler doesn't run as well as Maxwell. My GTX970 can run this at 1080p without a single frame drop and at 1440p the lowest fps I saw was 54fps.

Runs fine on my computer, turning most things on very high at 1080p using 970, 4790K.

Most baffling thing I've come across is navigating the UI. there's a mouse that works ingame but it requires you to use the keyboard arrow buttons for navigation. And then there's selecting where you hold q then press a number when you could just use the mouse to click it. What am I doing wrong. Sometimes I see playstation button come up with the square, triangles etc.

Game locked up in the prologue after snake fixed his leg. Had to task manager to force close the game.

Other wise, the loading off ssd is a little faster than GZ

On 970 I'm running everything maxed with nvcp hbao+ at 1080p, rock solid 60. At 1440p I would get mostly 60 but some scenes occasionally dipped to 50 or so.

GTX 970, running maxed settings at 1080. Locked 60. Like a legitimate locked 60. There was one point when looking at the GPU load it was over 100%, but since I'm overclocked I still stayed 60. That one time GPU load was over 100% was for under a second.

Is BB just skinnier here? The GZ sneaking suit looks weird in this game.

BB is skinnier. If you finished Ground Zeroes and watched the video it shows at the end,
you'd know he's been in a coma for 9 years.

Intel i5-5200U
Intel HD 5500 (Integrated graphics)

- Everything on High expect for Post Processing
- 30 frame lock
Runs so smooth

Update on my audio issue. It was a false alarm, nothing game related.

For some reason my sound card was bugged and directional audio as a whole on my PC was inverted. Reinstalling it fixed it. Nothing to see here.

My laptop seems to meet all the minimum requirements except for GHz. Mine is 2.5 and the minimum spec says 3.4. Would this cause a lot of problems?

My graphics card is GTX 860m by the way, so I would also appreciate any feedback from someone with something similar.

Impressed so far. Running 4k on a Titan X everything maxed out and HBAO+ and getting 40-55 fps in Afghanistan, which looks great with vsync.

Lowering post processing from Extra High to High gets me a solid 60 fps.

Playing downsampled from 1440p with HBAO+. Seems to be solid 60 during gameplay but I've had a couple weird drops to 30 during cutscenes. One of them seemed to be caused by a reflection.

I'm aware of the coma, but I was under the impression that he'd managed to put the weight back on. I guess his normal outfits just have extra padding lol.

I played Ground Zeroes on a i5-337U (1,8 GHz with boost up to 2.7, so I unlocked it to ~2.5GHz with throttle stop) and a GT 630m. Could lock it to stable 30fps on ~mid details. So expect at least that, but since your GPU is way better than mine you should be able to go higher with the settinigs.

Playing with:

GPU: GeForce GT 620
CPU: Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU E5700 @3.00 GH
RAM: 4GB

On Windows 8.1 pro.

Set it to 720p and everything else is set from medium to high, the game looks and runs amazing.

Everyone in a while it freezes for like a second, no biggie, haven't happen in any fight, haven't seen any sort of big frame rate drops either.

Here's a comparison of the AO options:

Default AO

HBAO+

The HBAO+ has a more dramatic effect in comparison to the default, which leaves some areas unchanged compared to no AO at all. It also makes Snake's skin look much more natural, at least in the chopper.
I can't see any difference at all... What should I look at? Or is it used to increase the performance? I'm on a 980ti and everything runs nice and smoothly on extra high. It looks blurry at times though but maybe it's just some over-used camera focus effect or the much-talked about sss tech or whatever. Still looks fantastic though.

Phew, good to hear! Glad it's resolved!

Thanks a lot! Really debating whether to go PC or xbone

I've got a laptop with an i7-4710MQ and a GTX850m and I can run everything on high at 900p and it runs at or near 60fps at all times (so far).

I think I managed to work out a pretty solid 1080p 60.

i5-4670k
GTX 760 4GB
8GB RAM

Settings are a mix of High and Extra High. Volumetric clouds are off because I don't know their performance impact. GeForce experience wants me to push things a little higher but Post Processing and Lighting on Extra High are pretty costly. Also afraid what HBAO+ might do. I've never really had a good feel for how costly that is. I also see suggestions there are ways to get into the files or ini and get a less expensive form of anti-aliasing. True? What is it with PC games these days only having one in-game AA option?

I7 960 (OC 3.8ghz)
12GB ram
Asus GTX 970 (OC +150 gpu/mem)

All settings maxed, 60fps with one area dipping to 56. If I run it in full screen, FPS is capped at 50. Bordered window is a solid 60. Runs like a dream but textures could be sexier.

High on all settings except extra high for models/textures, medium for shadows. I get around 60 or high 50s most of the time.

Turned off camera shake, thank god there's a setting for that.

Thanks I have the same graphic card. Will play today

Bit of a strange one.

Core i5 4440
Intel HD4600 Graphics
8GB DDR3 1600

I can run Ground Zeroes at 720p with everything off at a playable framerate, does anyone have a comparable performance graphics card could tell me if I could run TPP?

I got it on PS4 but it has decided to kill itself so I have to send it off for repair and I don't want some bellend spoiling the game for me so I need to play it any way I can.

Does anyone see their DLC stuff on the games Steam page btw?
I got the confirmation what has been unlocked when I first started the game, but then I deleted it and moved it to my SSD (it's so fast now) and didn't get the announcement about the DLC anymore, did I lose them?

This port is amazing.

Have everything maxed out and running in 2715x1527 downsampled via the Nvidia tool to 1920x1080 and it still holds an extremely steady frame rate. I've still played through just the prologue and first mission, though.

The downsampling in particular does wonders for the aliasing in the game, which was quite bad when I first booted it up.

Loving the game, too. This is going to be a fun journey.

I tried to downsample but it kept pushing all my settings lower when I got back in game. I'm okay with just setting it to max at 1080p with HBAO+.

This game is fantastically optimized.

Locked 60fps at all Extra High with a 970.

My 4 year old i7 is at 25% usage, streaming and recording on top of that still doesn't do anything to framerate.

The game also uses 500Mb of RAM? Wha...

I am really excited how fine the game runs:

Playing on:
i7 - 3770k - (3.9 Ghz -> Overclocked on 4.1 Ghz)
1x EVGA Superclocked 970
16 GB Ram

Software:
Win 10

Resolution:
1440p

Settings:
Everything on "Super High"

Result:
Only played the Prologue and Mission 1 (and a bit on the Motherbase)

I've got about 56-60 fps. Had one big drop. In the Prologue:
Where the flame guy and the "Psychomantis" are in the Same spot - after you "play dead" inbetween the dead bodies.
Dropped to 30-32 fps for 2-3 seconds.

But in Mission 1 - The first Open World Mission
Rescuing Kaz
- steady 55-60 fps. i may reduce some settings to "high" to really get pure 60 fps.

Hope somebody helps this information
