Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

game runs great but IMO it does not look that good, im enjoying the game but not as much as i did MGS4, maybe is the new open world setting that i don't think it fits this franchise that well, i do have to say is an excellent port tho, this and mad max ( which is awesome ) are how all PC games should be released

The Geforce guide says to turn off ambient occlusions in-game when enabling HBAO+. But there's no dedicated AO option. What do?

Laptop with 7970m here.

1280x720 on a 720p display ( plasma ) set to 50hz. Max settings. I get a rock solid 50fps.

Have to say, I'm quite shocked. This game is seriously well optimized.

Finally got home and yes, my computer was asleep. So I started my download at 5 local time. It was flying, going to be ready by 6pm at the latest.

But then it hit 545 and the speed tanked. Suddenly it was going to take another 2 hours. I figured that this was because a bunch of other people just got home from work and started their downloads, too.

So I switched my download region to east coast and the speed jumped up again. Will be done in 4 minutes :)

My changes to key assignments don't save after I exit the game...anyone else get that?

Also, crazy ugly distance "textures" at the highest setting. :D

Its fucking crazy im playing a metal gear game at launch on my PC. Fucking crazy man

Oh yeah this looks amazing and runs amazing.

KBAM control however, seems just as much of an afterthought as it was in GZ. Half the button prompts are in Xbox 360 buttons, the controls section brings up a controller and not a keyboard (I don't have a controller, so it's not detecting one), freelook during cutscenes causes extremely jittery movement, aim sensitivity still seems off even after tweaking, and the bug I had in GZ where Snake would randomly get stuck running to the left or right is back in TPP. It appears to be happening with greater frequency, too.

Ah I thought it was just me and the custom controller software I use! This is pretty annoying, you can 'reset' it I've found by just tapping again in that direction but I really don't know what causes it because every other game is fine.

BTW the keyboard config is in it's own menu called Key Bindings further down the list.

Here's a comparison of the AO options:

Default AO

HBAO+

The HBAO+ has a more dramatic effect in comparison to the default, which leaves some areas unchanged compared to no AO at all. It also makes Snake's skin look much more natural, at least in the chopper.

Runs flawlessly maxed at 1080p on a 970.

Unpopular opinion time, I think the game over world looks kinda crappy and super bland. It's more interactive than Red Dead but still not as well realized which is shocking considering the half decade ago between the two. Metal Gear games had always raised the bar in the visuals department so it's a bit disapointing to see this not push that envelope as much. I chalk that up to its cross gen origins though.

All things considered though, it looks fine. Not great but fine.

There's some weirdness with the default, like a shadow in the light shaft coming in from the window.

I have a PC with a GTX 260 and a Core 2 Quad E6600. Was just wondering with how old those components are if it would still run better than the PS3 version?

So uh, IDK what the hell is going on, but I notice that positional audio is inverted in my game for some reason. I'm hearing shit in front of me behind me and vice versa.

Logitech G430 headset with 7.1 enabled.

EDIT:

Disabling 7.1 doesn't fix it - Audio is still inverted, and even worse as due to less audio channels.

And yes, I am wearing my headset right.

I only recently noticed the current size of nvidia drivers. I remember when they were 35MB, they're approaching 300MB.

Game runs beautifully for me. One problem I'm seeing is that cycling through menus on the helicopter on the iDroid (e.,g staff mgmt and weapon dev) seem to freeze or lock up for like 10 seconds or so. Not sure if it's the game or my machine. Anyone else seeing this?

There's no tessellation at all? No too surprised. Does mean the ground looks rough when you're crawling on your belly.
Anyone else getting massive slowdown when trying to customize your Emblem? It goes down to like 3fps! And when I was logged on to their servers saving and loading took a good 6 or 7 seconds longer. Very irritating.
And lastly when I'm sneaking around at night there seems to be a lot of smearing. I thought it maybe the Blur but it's not. It's something to do with the light level because I don't notice it in daytime.
Apart from that I'm having a great time. 5% in 10 hours lol!

I'll try with mine when I get home.

Did you try the included USB soundcard? Also the Logitech Gaming Panel+Drivers?

So far so good. i7-2600K@3.4, GTX-680/2GB, 16GB RAM, Max everything (in-game), 1080p, seems pretty solid. I haven't run up Fraps or anything to really look at the framerates, but it feels butter-smooth. I played through the Prologue, just hit the first mission, but haven't completed it yet. I haven't run it with HBAO+ yet either, that will be for tomorrow, we'll see what difference that makes.

Playing with a controller, I kind of wish there was an easier way to snap screenshots when something cool pops up on screen without having to reach for the keyboard and maybe miss the shot. Might see if I can bind Fraps to something easier to reach quickly than the usual F10 or whatever.

If you use the TV mode/controller mode on steam (I forgot what that's called, "Big Picture"?) it gives you a button combo to take screenshot with.

Yeah, I'm using USB. Can't active 7.1 without the dongle or their software.

Anyway - After further testing, it would seem that my audio is only inverted left to right, while forwards and backwards are correct. But I noticed something far more annoying.

The volume of certain noises doesn't adjust enough with distance. Distant trucks for example, while quieter than ones right next to me, still sound like they're still close to me.

Do I need to disable ssao in game to get hbao+? I've set it to quality in the CP, but if I leave it on in game I get the super ugly normal ssao.
