Yeah, or shoot them in the leg with a suppressed weapon

Well that's kind of a dick move

Do we really need to see credits over and over? Not liking sitting through all the tapes either. But yeah, the gameplay is great.

I think it was intended to be like a TV show where you get credits at the opening and end of the episode.

My only problem with it is when you want to go to places that have no LZs. That's when it gets sort of annoying.

I love the open world, personally, but this is the one really flawed aspect.

If we can drop a flare anywhere for the chopper to come... Why cant it pick us up there?

I don't get this either. What's the point of armoring your chopper with all this shit if you can't call it in anywhere?

I think there's something wrong with the idroid menus on PC, they hang for about 15 seconds sometimes, even on an SSD.

I think they gutted it out of the game. Because Kojima states in early interviews that it can be done.

“You can call in a chopper anytime, anywhere you want, and the way the game system will work, is that when you call in a helicopter, you can return back to your base, or head to another mission. It is also possible to use helicopters for support as well.”

I'm sure there are videos from Ground Zeroes of you doing just that. But for whatever reason its not in the game. And that sucks.

Mind you I'm not that far in, and totally loves the game, but what I don't like so far is:

- Voice acting is inconsistent, and not too distinguish.
- Mute Big Boss, and anti-climatic meetings.
- Intro dragged on and should have been cut shorter.
- Open world is barren with almost no wild life.
- Need to complete side-ops to progress the story.
- Not as many cutscenes or story as in earlier games.
- Too much story is hidden away in the cassette tapes.
- Frustrating checkpoints, and you have to get the collectibles again after dying.
- Camera and control of D-Horse can be clunky.
- Slow load times when connected online.

I can list a bunch of cool and positive stuff as well, like the weather and day/night cycle, enemy AI, infiltration of camps, Mother Base management, graphics, OST, attention to detail, fulton system, controls etc.

MGS V has the best gameplay of the series, unfortunately I don't play Metal Gear primarily for the gameplay, rather I do for the story and cutscenes.

I'm gonna play some more tomorrow and have a whole lot of time next week. But it is these long games that I don't complete for sure, especially if I have to replay missions (but I take it, that it is a choice, yet is an advantage if you chose to replay missions).

Probably borked chopper AI that was constantly smashing into shit and glitching through geometry.

How do you upgrade your R&D level?

Try and locate some A,B, and C level soldiers in the world, while some side ops and missions have some good higher level R&D soldiers. I try and scan the area of outposts and Fulton some higher level R&D soldiers.

Its awesome trying to find and locate the different soldiers in the world that have a high rank, my adrenalin starts going when I see a guy with some A's and B's..

Having a hard time getting into the game because I just came off a DX:HR stealth marathon... It seems pretty good through the first couple missions though.

Just started episode 6. Fukin credits spoiling the characters in the mission. Why did they include this? I'm gona start looking away from the screen at the mission starts now.

Just built my first platform - R&D. But it's such a chore to traverse.

Btw are there any diamonds on the bridges between MB platforms?

Is the Xbox 360 version not too terrible? I'm worried for my friend who has no other option and wants to play the game badly.

Check out Digital Foundry, but I believe it performs better than the PS3 version for gameplay, but worse for cutscenes. It seems playable, but you can watch some footage online to gauge for yourself, such as the Digital Foundry analysis.

The more I think about where I suspect this story is going, the more I realize Big Boss is pretty silent for a reason most likely.

I believe it wasn't in GZ after a point because Omega was too small/crowded to make it worthwhile, but it should be in TPP, unless they just had too much of a hard time getting it to work reliably without bugging out or something.
I assumed from the item descriptions that you could call it to you for quick escapes.

I would just adore someone who has beaten the game to create a list of mission intros which spoil the game. I still haven't done mission 4, and would love to know ahead of time.

Do credits show over the iDroid? Because the initial fly-in/drop is a good time to plan your route of attack or just mess with Mother Base stuff.

It's a problem across all versions as far as I know. For some reason the game does a server check in whenever you load up the menu or switch to a different tab, so as the servers have been flakey right now, it hangs. If you play offline that should fix the problem if it bothers you.

Big Boss is too quiet in this game. In situations where he'd normally be talking his butt off he's just staring like a fucking idiot. Pretty jarring tbh.

And definitely not liking the lack of codec calls. I just realized how much I truly enjoyed the occasional back n' forth between Snake and his buddies from previous games.

Any tips for horse control? Like is there a way to go from a gallop to a slower speed without stopping completely?

Don't press the gallop button for a while, he'll automatically slow to a trot after a little if you're holding up/whatever direction on the stick.

I really, REALLY wish the subtitles displayed names, too. Most of the time I have absolutely no idea if it's Ocelot or Miller talking on these tapes

Also goddamn it DD, grow up already!

Cassette tapes?
It's basically the new codec.

Listen to the tapes. They're essentially the same thing as the longer optional codec calls you could place in previous games, but now you can play while listening to them. Big Boss also talks a lot more in them.

Yeah, I was thinking about that while listening to a tape. The hard of hearing would be in hell trying to keep up.

And PW had names IIRC, so I'm not sure what's up.

Game is great so far. Feels weird that it's the final Kojima MGS game, it's so different from previous ones, but aside from some minor story quibbles I like what Kojima's done here.

Not too far in yet, but I'm getting the hang of things. Just recruited Quiet

I think what I'm not digging about the game is I feel like I'm Snake just going around doing chores like taking out the trash and doing the dishes. In other MGS games everything you were moving towards had a purpose and there were always interesting set pieces and characters along the way. In this I'm collecting diamonds, flowers, and medals to make money to get shit that I just would have unlocked or found normally in the old games. Then there's all these disjointed pieces that break up the whole experience. I mean, I knew it would be open world but was expecting something more focused I guess.

I can agree with this criticism. Still love it overall

This was my impression as well. After the insanity of the prologue he says 1 word which is just repeating what was just said to him and he remains silent nearly through the entire first mission... Like how do you have nothing to say? And then you get a robot arm! Nothing? No comment? Not even a hey whats going on?
