That's gives me some confidence. If I can play all the souls games endlessly, I can do that. Also, it took two shots for that boss to kill me in my game...

Don't worry, the gameplay is sublime so you'll manage in the end especially with how many options you have from weapons, items to buddies at that point. I am just saying that it really didn't need this unnecessary padding, the game is already long as is. I cannot remember how many shots it took me since I had an upgraded sneaking suit BUT the big kicker is there is no reflex mode so once the sights are on you, rarely the bullet would miss.

... That's fucking dumb. At that point I'll probably stop and YouTube the endings. I find the missions already take too long and are brutally punishing when you fuck up as it is.

It's not worth doing that, imo. You're going to be missing alot of small details, other cutscenes as well as the tapes. However, I can also see why you or anyone else would just do that instead.

I got an S-rank when I
Defeated sahalanthropous
. Arguably the most difficult mission for me, but for some reason got an S-rank.

Such an epic fight.
REVENGE!!1

....wow

was doing mission 9 perfectly

d-horse jumps off a fucking cliff randomly

die

restart

no checkpoints

wow

wow

wow

im pissed

That happened to me earlier today as well. I ended up having to redo this fucking mission 3 times. I imagine it's much easier once you unlock a greater amount of C4 or rocket launchers.

Played through the level where
you escort the 5 children out of the cell to the LZ
. Holy smokes man, this fuckin' game. I had Quiet hold off guards or take out anyone that was going to be a nuisance, the enemy chopper looming overhead, trying to keep track of
the kids
ALL while playing some mood setting music on the cassette tape.

I was having a long period of time where I thought gaming just wasn't it for me anymore as a major hobby, but goddamn this game struck my love for the medium all over again.

holy shit I just got DD edit: (to grow up I mean) and that badass slowmo posing moment during the cutscene is the best thing in this game so far

They could have easily avoided this problem because at this point the story is very engaging and I want to continue on with it but replaying old missions on a much harder difficulty by FORCE sucks the joy out of the game frankly.
Wait, so you can't continue the main story without doing this? That sounds kind of insane

edit: Saw that was already asked. Not sure if I'm going to finish this game ever then :/

28% into the game.

I have a custom built and painted silenced tranq sniper rifle w. 8x scope. I feel like I've broken the game with this thing.

So, yeah, do the legendary gun smith side-ops, it's certainly worth it.

I'm only 2 missions in, but the rating system doesn't seem to make any sense. I felt like I did absolutely horrible on both and got A's.

So far the story does't really seem to rely on prior knowledge to me but I'm thinking about going back to MGS2 and 3 for now. I don't really have a lot of time in university.
I would say start with MGS3, since that's the start of Big Boss's series, MGS3, Peace Walker, GZ, TPP.

MGS2 and 4 at this point would just be an overload of information to take in without first seeing MGS1 (Or Twin Snakes if you'd prefer to see MGS1, 2 and 3 all on the same engine.)

Wait a sec, does blowing up anti-air radar count as a checkpoint?

Holy shit.

I'm not sure. Clearing out bases might trigger checkpoints as well. I was thinking more along the lines of having a rocket launcher would easily allow you to blow up the vehicles rather than having to repeatedly air drop more supplies. I went in with a grenade launcher. It doesn't help that this mission is timed.

I don't understand the new staff stuff...I swear I just abducted 4 people but my staff notifications only say 2 are new. Also it sometimes says people are new when they're not. And do people level up? Is that what it's telling me after a mission?

Can anyone help me with this? Probably just an idiot, but I don't understand the post mission recruitment screen.

Just don't go for the boss battle missions and you'll manage with everything you have at that time it's just that it'll take some restarts that's for sure. You'll have to finish one of them atleast at a time so that another story mission unlocks and another replayable one does as well.

I mean they're lucky that the gameplay is as good as it is to make even going through this annoyance, ok. It just sucks. I would really like to know what Kojima was thinking about that. He thought us super fans would enjoy the difficulty probably, sure I'd enjoy it as long as it's not something that is forced on me to do.

EDIT: I'm sure people will be doing videos on how to cheese those missions so it won't be that bad. It's just something that is VERY unnecessary.

They're delicious.

But yeah, I'm on a 980 Ti and playing at 1440p, everything maxed with HBAO+, and the framerate is locked at 60fps sans for the rare and brief drop or stutter at a specific moment during saving/streaming or a cutscene. It doesn't appear to be a hugely demanding game. 4K is, obviously, but if you wanted to play native 4K you probably could and still hit great performance by toning down some of the settings. And if you still want to max it out I can imagine 1440p upscaled is better than 1080p, plus extra graphical goodies over PS4.
Should you bother with AA at 2160p when your screen size is around 65"? AF and HBAO, absolutely, but AA seems like a pretty poor use of resources at that pixel density.

This thread would be a graveyard if I was a mod. The sheer amount of posts like:

Oh man when
Big Boss turns out to be 3 kids in a trench coat

Just did the mission where
Quiet asks you to make her a mixtape

Absurd. Please guys...

I think I found a super cheesy way to finish Mission 16,
where you have to extract the truck with the Skulls in it. I waited for the first IFV to pass, ran up to the truck, aggroed the driver by accident, and activated the Skulls (which I didn't know would happen). I didn't get an alert for some reason, and after the cutscene, both IFV's were unoccupied, so I used the one with a tank cannon to eliminate the Skulls. I think the key is to make the truck stop while leaving the two IFV's intact, because after activating the Skulls they'll become unoccupied.

One thing that's REALLY annoying me about the game...

At the beginning of every mission it says "Starring "Character Name"...it's like it's trying to intentionally spoil it for you. I don't want to know that skullface or some other important character is going to make an appearance...just surprise me.

Can't believe they did this and there's no way to turn it off. Pretty lame.

This game has some amazing super tense moments:

Mission 1 spoilers -
The Skulls in general. As soon as they show up, brown trousers potential skyrockets.

Mission 12 spoilers -
Sahelanthropus.

That's not even counting the general tenseness from all the stealth gameplay, And I LOVE it.

Other than in predetermined cut scenes, can I meet Ocelot and Miller at Mother Base? Can't find them.

Ocelot is around whenever things are happening. Perfect opportunity to mess with his "drug resistance training".

Miller is presumably hidden away somewhere brooding. =/

Sometimes they're just volunteeres that joined because of your heroism. It usually says so on the top of the screen. I don't think soldiers can level up, not sure though. Maybe earning medals boosts their stats.

I just look at GAF or the phone while listening. Unless the opening of a mission is an important cutscene lol.

So I just
rescued Kaz
and I can't
escape the Skull Squad
. Any tips?

im trying to ride through them but keep getting killed, can my horse not sprint??

Got a question regarding the iDroid companion app. Back in the Ground Zeroes app, you could play tapes on the game using the idroid app, and everything was very easily accessible. Now the menu seems to be quite obtuse (almost impossible to see the icons on the left!) and I think I might be missing stuff because of this. Also accessing the tapes require to get out of the map app and disconnect, and when you play them, they play from the app instead of ingame.

Am I missing something, does it improve, or this is it?

I try to ignore it every time but accidentally get a glimpse of it because I'm reading the subtitles at the bottom. It's completely shocking why they would do something like this.

Only on XB1

They got you good.
That's a decoy. Only on everything else you mean.

If you're reading the subtitles just raise your arm above the text and your eyes lol.

This is LITERALLY the worst way to tag your spoilers.

Yeah, no context spoilers are the worst.

:/ Having to redo old missions to unlock new stuff is incredibly stupid. Unbelievably, incredibly, mind blowingly stupid.

That's one of the major negative of PW, among other things. Good thing this game is amazing at everything except this dumbass thing.

I'm dying over here. Did he not realize? Am I being played like a fiddle?
.

You and me both.

The Bionic Arm sprintiing attack is my favourite thing ever.

Can't say I'm having much luck being stealthy. I do try at first but once I'm caught the double barreled shotgun comes out. Certainly much harder than the rest of the series not to get seen.

I shot at one of them and ran thru. I guess there's a way to get past em without them seeing you but thats what I did.

Indeed, haha. Nobody knows if he is talking about a part they have played yet.
Pretty aweful imo. But i just don't click them.
Meh? Don't read them if you're worried about it. I don't see the problem. I could just spoiler the whole post I guess?
You could begin by saying what chapter you have a problem with. This way people can decide to try and help you or not, depending on whether they played that level or not.

Early boss spoiler (around mission 7-ish iirc)

If anyone wants an easy and hilarious non-lethal way to take
Quiet
out:
mark her and drop a supply drop on her twice.

Wow, I just did that last night and it was a bit painful using just the tranq pistol. Though I really like the movement options the game provides for dealing with situations like that.

I was upset about it but given the turmoil at Konami I've gotten to the point where I'm glad the game came out and was still really good.

There's lots of glaring flaws with it but it's not like they had much choice in a lot of cases. It was either ship the game with what they had or abandon things altogether.

I agree with the turmoil sentiment - I'm glad this game released and is good.

But I cannot, and I mean that literally, think of a single positive reason to have the player redo old missions to advance.

Finished it earlier today.
Had a great time playing it.

Arriving in a Hot LZ with The Final Countdown blaring through the chopper speakers while mowing down enemies with the minigun... sogood.gif
