Question about the graphics in the area of mission 13 : I did the mission at night and the skybox changed color each time I moved the camera or ran, which was greatly annoying...is it a glitch or do everyone else experience that ? Thanks.

Kojima's tweets right now are golden. Talking about why he won't go back into a game once it's released.......because he will see something he wants to fix even though he's played it over and over again.

I did Mission 6: Honey Bee last night for the first time and... wow.

I did it 100% stealth until right at the very end. I can't even imagine how you can stealth and also rescue that prisoner/hostage. I got semi-close and then he got executed. There are SO MANY guards in that last spot that you probably have to rescue him before they take him into those ruins. I also can't imagine how you can S rank this with stealth either. Anyone know of a video of someone doing it? I saw an S rank video but the guy seemed to just run&gun most of it.

At the end of the mission to took me an 1 hour 6 minutes and I got a B rank/octopus.

I used a Smoke Grenade on the guys surrounding the prisoner and then extracted all of them and fled into the cave.

Also hearing that people are losing their top notch crew doesn't bode well for me. I guess I'll only be logging in for the daily rewards and disconnecting from the server. Hated being invaded in souls games and I'm sure I'll hate it even more now.

Don't put your top ranking crew on your FOB? Seems like a simple enough solution.

There's really nothing that I see in TPP that was held back due to ps3/360 versions. Other than some pop in, its plays perfectly on my PS4

Definitely paired back thanks to last-gen. Hair, AA, textured, and environmental models are sub-par.

The open world being empty is a pro in my book.

It's not supposed to be some Ubisoft-style open world where you explore every nook and cranny for things to collect/do. It's just there to facilitate the open infiltration idea. It makes each base an open area that you can sneak into from different directions in a variety of ways.

If you're just aimlessly wandering the world, I don't think you're playing it the way it was designed to be played.

Destiny's open world doesn't serve anything in the gameplay. But MGSV's does, in a better way than most open-world games.

I want to disagree... but those are some reasonable points.

I don't think they're very reasonable. Especially once you're past the 20 hour mark.

But this has been covered. And it is true that a couple of design decisions stretch the experience far more than it needs to be stretched.

So I was goofing around MB and accidentally ran over little DD and crashed my car into the sea. Is my dog dead now?

I took bunch of minerals and blueprint, and died without getting a checkpoint.
restarting from the last checkpoint and the minerals and blueprint are gone from those locations. So does this mean I got all those already?

After
completing your first "Extract Wandering Soldier" Side-Op. Head back to medbay and go to the door after.

I think we should spoiler-tag this. I knew something secret was on Mother Base but didn't know when or where. Found it myself 15 hours in and it was incredible.

Are there any climbing cracks in Afghanistan?
I'd like to try out the climbing mechanic.

There are but stupidly spaced apart and very rare.

Minor level design spoiler:

The square fort with the towers at each corner and the big gate at the front has a crack on the nearby cliff. Cliff drops into a river. Go to the river and follow the cliff along until you find one.

There should be at least ten times more cracks like that in the game. Painfully underused mechanic.

I think its more immersive. Instead of being dropped right into a compound as per older games, you select your own drop point and COA. Some sides are easier to infiltrate than others. Its good to know that when I see towers and lights, I can also retreat and just travel to the other side and try it there.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
What's the name of that synth track during the end battle of mission 6? I really like the 80s sound to the soundtrack, it sounds kind of like something Cliff Martinez would do.

How long does it take for DD to grow from a diamond pup into a diamond dog?

Also every time I fly away on my helicopter I tranq him and he flops over. Sweet dreams!

All the tranq poison is stunting his growth

Amen. When I saw the video of that insanely detailed climbing animation I got super excited, and even more so when I found the "tutorial crack" in the starting ruins of Afghanistan. Yet that remains the ONLY crack I've found in the world, and not for lack of trying. There are so many moments where I want to get on top of a ledge to enact some badass tactical plan I have in mind, and even after circling the whole mass on D-Horse, there is still nowhere to climb up... I mean why bother really? I definitely wish for a little more verticality in the levels, it's really hard to get on top of things and even when you do it feels like you shouldn't really be there, like it's not intended.

They should let you drop off and extract from anywhere, not just specific points. Prevent abuse by making it super expensive to build new choppers if it gets shot down.

Ok the fix for my install screen that was there for 15 min is this:

  • hard reset the PS4
  • delete your installation
  • reinstall the game

Now the countdown actualy works.

When you get close enough, it should prompt them to take him into the ruins, the prisoner and the 3 guards. They walk in single file so you can take them out one by one, then there is a part of the ruins that has a clear area above for an extract. I rescued him (took out the 3rd and last guard) at about half way through the ruins, then extracted him, where about does he get executed?

Agreed.

Also in the rare-ish times when you're chasing a target, or being chased, the "open world" doesn't feel so open any more. It's so focused.

Also I'm only around Mission 18, but I feel confident that later missions are going to have crazy escape/chase scenes that cover loads of ground. There's already been one or two that hint at that.

Drop-off in specific locations is a bit of a bother, but later you can easily bring a car which you never lose (although it can be destroyed).

However, you can be picked up from anywhere. Via the pause menu or dropping a flare.

I just waited until they took him back into the ruins, then I threw a smoke grenade and went in and fucked the three of them up. Picked up the dude, went back out and fulton'd him.

I rescued him before he got to the caves.

I blew up the jeep they were taking him in right after it left the relay station. Put some C4 on the ground, exploded it, and it threw him clear of the vehicle, before blowing up and killing all the guards! Then I just Fulton-ed him :)

I love how there was supposed to be a super great explanation about why a sniper had to look like a stripper when practically, it turns out it's exactly what it looked like.
She's an amazing buddy and has a couple of cool scenes but she looks like that because Kojima is a total lecher.

So we don't get an explanation for her attire?

Miller's so dramatic. God forbid I bring a girl to the base.
He gets really, really annoying. I think I'm about halfway through and he's still annoying.
So we don't get an explanation for her attire?
You do, but it's a garbage tier excuse.

The only words I'm ashamed of are Kojima's for trying to defend it, and the only deeds are him designing her like that in the first place. Total trash.

got a question, I just recently saw a headline in Kotaku where it says that a very important scene was cut from the game... I don't want to read because I know there are spoilers in there, but I want to know if that's true and how are people knowing this if it is, well... cut..

Mission 10 q:
the specialists are the prisoners, right? Some fucking asshole decided to kill a prisoner (the iDroid lady said a prisoner has died) for the fun of it and now I'm thinking of restarting

awesome, thanks

Np.

Apparently you can also find cracks in buildings. But I've never seen one of those. One time I was near some ruins and Miller was like 'There's a fissure there, try climbing it' and I literally stood there staring at the building like 'What the fuck is he on about'.

It sounds very likely to be true, from what other people said ITT.

Stay away.

The article said there's concept art for it on the limited edition bonus disc.

20 hours in...MGS5 really is 2014's Destiny. The similarities are staggering.

+AMAZING play mechanics, feels great to play when the action starts
+Looks really nice, although clearly cross-gen

-Open World is really a few walled off linear hot spots used for main missions and filler "free roam" missions, with resources to collect. Areas you think you can traverse, ya can't. Its a hassle getting from one side to the other. No NPCs, villages, anything particularly interesting or notable.

-You spend a lot of time sitting in loading screens after you extract from every mission. Your ship takes you back to the hub base, until you realize its horrifically boring with maybe 2 activities and you can't interact with anybody, so you go back to the loading screen ship.

-There's not a whole lot of narrative momentum or structure, you can play for hours and not really have much of an emotional investment in any of the world or its characters. Main character feels like an avatar and not a person. You do "main" missions thinking they'll advance the plot, and not only are they very similar to the filler missions, but it feels like nothing you did mattered anyway. Just another chore taking care of.

-There's a big grinding metagame they attached to it, so you're always on the lookout to collect a hundred different things to build yourself up and micromanage various components of your loadout. IDK, they felt this was a needed evolution over the old games where you just played it and found cool shit in the world. Now they make you grind for it.

Can't wait for the expansion next year that makes MGS5 a great game

Love the game but these are valid points.
