Sorry if this has been asked/fixed already as I haven't followed any new on this yet, but have they fixed the mixed onscreen button prompts when using a keyboard/m? Hate to play the game and get to a situation where I dont know what to press.

there is an explanation. it's important, but at the end of the day, kojima use her as a sex object constantly, it's a shame cause she's pretty much the only interesting person in the game.
Pretty much. When you rank up her bond with her she starts showing her ass to you on the ACC and leans over seductively if you look at her. Ridiculous + annoying as she's actually an interesting character and I really like every other aspect of her. As soon as I could get clothes for her, I did.

I got this game as a gift yesterday...

I realized that I have an unplayed copy of MGS4 (because I buy many more games than I have time to play). I am completely new to MGS except for having played the PS1 version briefly a few years ago.

So I started playing MGS4 thinking maybe MGS5 will mean more if I have some knowledge beforehand. I am not doing so well... there's tons of systems and items and the game seems to assume I know much more than I do about how to play.

Do you guys recommend I play MGS4 prior to MGS5? Or should I just start with 5 since I've missed so much of the series anyway?

Also who decided to name what seems like the most important characters ____ Snake? I don't get it... And Ocelot? What?

For anyone having a problem with
Mission 16

This mission was pissing me off but I finally found a way to get it to work.

Firstly - make sure you have a rocket launcher.

Just north of where you start there is a fork in the road with a jeep and 4 guys - take out the guards and move the jeep into the middle of the road - the tanks will stop and blow it up, giving you an opportunity to destroy the tanks.

The truck is now on its own.

There is a base camp fight before the oil field that the truck will stop at - take every one out from a distance.

Next - right out of the camp there is road blocks - place C4 there and call for a supply drop close to it.

Once you have taken everyone out - trigger the skulls.

They move slowly towards you - wait until they are on top of the C4 and BOOM - 2 dead immediately and the third is heavily damaged.

Use rockets on the last one.

Hope this helps anyone.

EDIT: Got an S Rank for doing it this way.

Yeah this game feels more like Destiny than MGS. There is no health bar and auto regen to boot. I have the feeling that this game will be looked at differently in a few months after we're over the honeymoon phase. Just like MGS4. At the moment it's looking worst than MGS4 to me.

got a question, I just recently saw a headline in Kotaku where it says that a very important scene was cut from the game... I don't want to read because I know there are spoilers in there, but I want to know if that's true and how are people knowing this if it is, well... cut..
well it doesn't take a genius to know a lot was cut from the game, but one of the major loose plot threads was shown in some collectors edition .
some other people who got the game early were desperately trying to trigger this ending that was cut, before this footage made it online.

I thought the justification for Quiet being naked was pretty dang clever. It's not at all what I expected. I expected something personal, some trauma, which would have been bullshit. But it's quite a functional reason. Though there are a few issues:

1. Kojima said it would make us 'ashamed for our words and deeds' or whatever. How the hell is this true? Bear in mind I'm only on Mission 18 or something.

2. If
she breathes through her skin so she has no scope-wobble (a great idea)... Why the fuck is she wearing clothes in the Prologue?

3. If
The End could also photosynthesise... Why the fuck was he wearing clothes, while Quiet isn't? I suppose the breathing thing. But surely this means she doesn't need to sunbathe with her bra off.

On the one hand she's really well written and I do personally like the justification of the nakedness. On the other hand the tit-shots are lame. At least none of the characters in-game objectify her (yet). Sure, they're scared and apprehensive of her, but nothing sexual (yet), which is refreshing.

20 hours in...MGS5 really is 2014's Destiny. The similarities are staggering.

+AMAZING play mechanics, feels great to play when the action starts
+Looks really nice, although clearly cross-gen

-Open World is really a few walled off linear hot spots used for main missions and filler "free roam" missions, with resources to collect. Areas you think you can traverse, ya can't. Its a hassle getting from one side to the other. No NPCs, villages, anything particularly interesting or notable.

-You spend a lot of time sitting in loading screens after you extract from every mission. Your ship takes you back to the hub base, until you realize its horrifically boring with maybe 2 activities and you can't interact with anybody, so you go back to the loading screen ship.

-There's not a whole lot of narrative momentum or structure, you can play for hours and not really have much of an emotional investment in any of the world or its characters. Main character feels like an avatar and not a person. You do "main" missions thinking they'll advance the plot, and not only are they very similar to the filler missions, but it feels like nothing you did mattered anyway. Just another chore taking care of.

-There's a big grinding metagame they attached to it, so you're always on the lookout to collect a hundred different things to build yourself up and micromanage various components of your loadout. IDK, they felt this was a needed evolution over the old games where you just played it and found cool shit in the world. Now they make you grind for it.

Can't wait for the expansion next year that makes MGS5 a great game

Uhm no i dont agree with this at all.

Anyway to disable communication gear quietly?

I've never actually bothered during a mission, so I don't know if it triggers an alert or not.

[Post Mission 31 Spoilers!]

Just completed missions 32-35, as well as the side op to retrieve the remains of the man on fire. Out of curiosity, from here on can I complete only missions and side ops marked yellow to achieve the true ending, or do I need to complete all main missions, including the ones marked [Total Stealth] and [Extreme]
?

Oh, Metal Gear Solid. You weirdly discordant yet perfectly cohesive vision.

It makes me feel like a douche when I tell people saying "Anytime MGS tries to be serious and there are cyborg ninjas and whatnot around" that they don't get it. Then I try to explain that the juxtaposition is wholly intentional and they act like I'm being an apologist.

DD will auto mark nearly everything of interest automatically (you still have to scan for stats) and he can be used to kill/stun single targets and as a distraction.

Quiet is a kill/tranq machine. If you tell her to provide cover, she practically clear all the enemies for you.

As for gun customization: yes. There are side-ops that you need to complete before you're allowed to cosmetically change your weapons; changing them via mods and attachments is done by developing them through R&D, which basically means that the more attachments the weapon has, the longer it will take to unlock and develop it.

Are the side-ops labeled to show that they will result in gun customization?

Can people actually throw grenades in the air and have Quiet shoot it like it was shown in demo videos? Also how do I command the horse to poo on the side of the road and move where I want it to go. Or are all these features not in the game?

she's my favourite part of the game and I only use the default costume cause I don't mind the reason, but fuck the shit that happens on he ac and those other two scenes, and the random boob cam pauses.
I'd like an outfit with some goddam small shorts though, she could reveal just as much skin without looking like that.

Jeez, is Miller supposed to come across as this much of a dick?

Spoiler mission 18:
Hitting 1 of the child prisoners as soon as they reach MB.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
Uhm no i dont agree with this at all.

Care to elaborate...?

I think all of those points he made are pretty accurate. I think the games are very different in many ways (obviously), but these points he made are pretty spot on.

Mission 16

[snip]

There's a far easier way, man.

At the same outpost they stop at, set up Quiet at the vantage point to the south east while you approach on the cliffs to the West.

Tell Quiet to start sniping them.

Hop down off the cliff and start crawling for the truck.

When you're close, the Skulls are triggered, but they don't know you're there. All the guards are now zombies and you don't even need to kill them (Quiet will do this though)

Get in one of the tanks now vacated by zombie guards

Shoot the hell out of the Skulls with said tank

Once they damage your tank a lot, swap into the other

Blow the shit out of those Skulls

Extract tanks and truck

Mission done! I got an S-rank for this approach I think.

I completely disagree with him and thought he was being very facetious. There are a couple of broad parallels – and MGSV certainly isn't perfect – but Destiny was a total empty shambles imo where MGSV is great, just stretched quite thin.

Follow back to that original post he made and scroll down to see my huge rants back at him. I was being facetious too but just to highlight how ridiculous I felt some of the claims were.

He gets really, really annoying. I think I'm about halfway through and he's still annoying.

You do, but it's a garbage tier excuse.

The only words I'm ashamed of are Kojima's for trying to defend it, and the only deeds are him designing her like that in the first place. Total trash.

Oh well I like her design. I guess that makes me a mysogonist or something?

I know its not realistic or anything like that but eh..

Oh... where do I begin :(

If you can you should play MGS3 first or at least watch stuff about it on YouTube, maybe Peacewalker too if you can.. Then start playing MGSV.

Your point about the
end
, don't wanna spoil it all, but your gonna be satisfied for the most part. just keep playing!
but yeah no one but kojima should be ashamed about quiet

Report me for trolling ND/TLoU2 threads
is there a way to stop mother base from auto assigning fultoned soldiers, when i fulton them they are already place in a group, is there a way to keep them in the waiting room and then assign them myself when I am done a mission?

No way, the Honey Bee mission is one of my favorites. Fun infiltration and fight.

There's just too many guards to stealth properly for me, and the end was frustrating me until I
did what someone mentioned a page or so back and just fucking ran

1. It was BS. There is a reason, but nothing to be ashamed of imo.

2. Did you see what happened? She burned to a crisp with chemicals. Yet she turns up fine.

When you get close enough, it should prompt them to take him into the ruins, the prisoner and the 3 guards. They walk in single file so you can take them out one by one, then there is a part of the ruins that has a clear area above for an extract. I rescued him (took out the 3rd and last guard) at about half way through the ruins, then extracted him, where about does he get executed?

I made it close and saw them take him into the ruins, and then I spent a bit of time sneaking around and trying to find my way down there. I took some wrong turns and ended up on the top level so I guess that's where I wasted the time I needed to rescue him. I had just found the little ramp that leads down to the water/ceiling hole and started sneaking down it when I got the message he was dead. They take him all the way to where the Honey Bee is, and kill him there.

Np.

Apparently you can also find cracks in buildings. But I've never seen one of those. One time I was near some ruins and Miller was like 'There's a fissure there, try climbing it' and I literally stood there staring at the building like 'What the fuck is he on about'.

In the compound where you
rescue Miller
at the start of Afghanistan, a building near the back across from where you find him has a crack you can use to get on top of it. Found it after much running around and searching when a Soviet told me there was a stash of rough diamonds up there.

If you want S ranks, use Quiet with a tranq sniper and give her the "cover me" command.

Almost feels like an easy button at times.

no you either grind side ops or do the replay missions

I like how you're rewarded for being stealthy and non-lethal here. I used to be pretty aggressive in past MGS games, but here, I try to be as non-lethal and stealthy as possible

Wait for sandstorm, ride in on horse and fumble through until you get somewhat close. Use horse to block enemies' paths.

I missed how cool the whole area was because of this strat.

+100

It's a shame the reasoning why she doesn't wear clothes, either. "Regret words and deeds" my ass. She's really cool and my favorite buddy to use, so it's kinda lame she's mostly treated as t & a.

I finished mission 13, when do I actually get to use Quiet as a buddy? She's in the Brig for now.

These Destiny comparisons are unreal. In terms of open world, it's closer to GTA than anything else.

And even then it's light years away from what kind open world GTA is. MGSV's "open world" feels too barren and dead when outside of mission or side op. Even then a lot of major checkpoints are manned by 3, maybe 4, guys which is little weird too.
