Yeah, I play MGS for the story. I'm still having a blast with it. I think I've kind of given up on getting the MGS experience from this one though. Peace Walker's story should have been the true 5th installment like it was intended with this being the side-game or whatever you'd want to call it. People complained about the long cut-scenes from from previous games, so I guess people got what they wanted.

Also noticed that Snake might carry guns in cutscenes that you don't carry in the game.

I use a rocket launcher and grenade launcher, but in cutscenes he's seen using a machine gun.

I didn't. MGS has sucked since MGS3. That was the last great one for me personally. There is such a thing as balance, and MGSV took that and threw it into the sun. Much like MGS4, just in the opposite direction (although I might have been more lenient with MGS4 had I not found the story so terrible). It's just one disappointment after another for 7 years.

Question about mission 13 or 12?
when you get the walking armor with Huey and get chased by the huge metal gear, I got Huey out of there, but left the walking suit behind. Was there a way to save it? I am assuming not... Also is there a quicker way to get a vehicle besides getting stronger fultons? Thanks!

Super duper early Quiet spoilers:

Woah, that fight was hard. I wish I knew that I didn't have to tranq her the entire time, because using my sniper would have made the fight way easier. Oh well. I just could not spot her before she spotted me. I was using the directional mic to find her, but she's always spot me just as I spotter her. She'd take a shot, I'd recover and then pop out of cover for a quick tranq, causing her to run to the next destination. Still a pretty fun fight, but I'd like to try it again with a sniper. Also, I was really bummed to sneak up right behind her during a sandstorm and find out I couldn't CQC her. What would have been such an easy headshot was wasted.

Here's how that turned out for me:

I was on my way for a Side Op when she spotted me in the ruins and the battle started. I quickly realized that I needed a sniper rifle and one that had tranquilizer rounds since I didn't know if bullets will kill her. I moved all my men through divisions to ensure I meet the requirement and developed the tranquilizer sniper rifle. Called it via Supply Drop and decided to shoot her merciless.
Quite a fun battle!

A couple of questions... Might be something obvious I'm not seeing.

1. How do you keep track of which animals you've caught? It doesn't seem to tell you in the log.

2. How do you see the skill of each person you capture in the motherbase staff log? I was alerted to something about troublemakers causing trouble if they are alone and now I'm paranoid haha.

I hate to say how much I completely agree with you. MGS was my unquestioned favorite series for so long. After 5 hours with MGS5 I dread playing it. It's the complete opposite of what I want from MGS, which is a linear, story-driven game.

Not until later in the game, and you decide to replay the mission, and you have Fulton + Cargo 2

Its good to see everyone is hitting Quiet tonight. I know there's still so much left in the game but I am already liking this game a tad more than MGS3 at this point. The thing that sold me was the Mother Base Management and the detail. I won't go nuts explaining because you probably already know if your at Quiet but holy crap I was sold once I started to get all the different Unit types. I really am digging the Mother Base management so hard.

It's easier when you just accept the series has evolved. Each game is different. Solid Snake's story is way more in depth than Big Boss'. The majority of Snake Eater's cutscenes were in the beginning and end, with the majority of the middle being all gameplay.

Can someone tell me how to attach a
speaker
to my damn heli? lol. I cant seem to figure it out.

I didn't figure it out from the get go either, after developing it it's just a different key when choosing a tape so instead of hitting play on the Walkman just hit the other key to set the song. (look at the menu prompts bellow for the key/button)

So what's the deal with interrogating guards? They frequently tell me "Our specialist is located here!" and the map is updated.....then I check the map and there's nothing differentiating whoever he just marked from a regular soldier. Odds are I'd already marked his "specialist" with my binocs.

Open the iDroid. You will see a yellow dot on the player who is a specialist or elite. Their name will also change from "Russian Soldier" to "Specialist".

played 32 hours, done 14 main missions.

I think I am spending way too much time with side ops and wandering around fultoning soldiers lol.

I'm somewhat torn on this game now. The first third of the game is amazing, a promsing start to the game. However, at about
Episode 12-14
the game starts to drag slightly and the plot begins to meander slightly, which is quite annoying.

The gameplay is making me come back, although the story is starting to annoy me (I'm at
Episode 30 now
)

I really would like to try out the online portion, but either I keep getting D/C'ed from the servers or they are down for maintenance.. I just want my FOB :(

Why doesn't this game cut immediately to you getting out of the helicopter after a mission loads? The rest is just pointless and useless.

I'm having fights break out almost every 10 minutes on MB, it's really annoying. How do I see who's starting these fights so I can give them the boot? I can't seem to tell.

After exfiltrating the hot zone you can just choose "Return to ACC" from the menu instead of calling in a helicopter pick up though. That cuts out half of the helicopter rides I was taking.

It begins to meander? I'm still enjoying the game but the fucking plot has meandered since the very first episode. We got crazy shit in the prologue that went on for way longer than it should and then literally nothing.

I'm assuming it's loading some more. It's kind of annoying. The game really seems to know how to waste your time in a few ways.

Spoiler tagged purely for relation to your progress so far. No story spoilers at all.

I have bad news, things are going to go downhill, very hard, very fast. I was actually still enjoying the game then but what comes after, well you'll see. Unfortunately though if you're in it for the gameplay, all the best stuff has already happened. The missions won't have the depth they did before. I can't say much about story since I'm only slightly ahead of you, but the gameplay nosedives hard very soon.

Will anyone ever be able to forget that Hideo Kojima made this game?

Konami fucked up with that one. Now you can't complete a mission without being reminded.

Doesn't that just erase mission progress? Since it does say that any unsaved progress is lost..

I would love to know this as well I have the same problem.

Look for someone with the 'Troublemaker' skill. Either dismiss them, or pair them up with another troublemaker so they keep themselves busy.

Sometimes I feel like I'm playing a completely different game. Ive definitely felt like I've been getting a steady drip of info. Right around the time I ran out of cassettes that were filling in little holes I hit mission 12 which opened a whole new side of things as well as dumped a whole bunch of new tapes to listen to.

That said I'm main lining the story and doing side ops only if I happen to wander into their zone.

What does it mean when you "capture" a checkpoint or base? I know I extracted or killed all
The enemies but does it do something else?

woooooooooooow at that retcon:

(medbay scene... if you don't know what it is, don't highlight)

Seriously this where they go with Paz? Hey, surprise, we actually checked her vagina and she totally didn't blow up! You see Snake was all "I know something's wrong! Why don't you shove your hand into her vagina and check!" Except he didn't say that, but the doctor knew it anyway, and we got a great fisting scene. It's all good now, she's alive, yay! wut

RIGHT?!

I know the GZ canon is pretty much non-applicable at this point, but another thing that makes this absurd is that they mention they removed some of her organs to fit the bomb (in one of the GZ tapes that you can recover), and that she would probably only survive for about 24 hrs, but that was ok because she only needed to survive enough to blow up.

This woman's body must be super human levels resilient

check your personal records. Some people have Troublemaker as a skill.

I had one dude Spitting Wasp, his Troublemaker trait was that he was unsanitary. Dude was so nasty that he hurts the health of his entire unit. dude had to go. You have other troublemakers who start fights, and others who pass on PTSD...I guess by telling stories?

If you get out of the hot zone and Miller comes in and says "Good job boss I love you boss" then youve cleared the mission and can leave at your whim. I found myself sprinting out of the mission area or driving out more than I called helicopters to get out though.

They'd be soldiers with the
troublemaker skill. Tip: Put two of them in the same unit and they'd be occupied with each other Or put soldiers with the "Diplomat" skill with them

I dunno, it's really annoying. I assume it's loading.

I'm assuming it's loading some more. It's kind of annoying. The game really seems to know how to waste your time in a few ways.

But when you continue a saved game that's in the middle of a mission there's no issue...so it seems it's on purpose.

Ah man thanks for that tip.

So I'm hearing soldiers talking about the 'woman that disappears' being seen near the power plant. Should I head over there and randomly encounter Quiet or is there a certain mission for it?

You can trigger it but I tried just going there as soon as I heard the soldiers talking about it and it was a big waste of time. Your adventures will lead you into each other not far down the line.

I have not once connected to the god damn servers no matter how often I try. Good job Konami. I couldn't buy your shitty coins even if I wanted to.

Starting to wish this was a more traditional Metal Gear game. There is a lot of tedium in this game and riding a horse past thousands of rocks is starting to get to me.

The real story of MGS5 will be the massive backlash it gets on this forum after people begin finishing it.
