Apple’s Fall iPhone Event To Be Held Sept. 9

I would personally feel silly updating from 6. The people around me won't tell the difference anyway ;) #applesmugness

I am going from 16GB 6+ -> 64GB 6s.

The only reason I would go with a 6s+ is if:

-Battery life is for some reason extraordinarily worse
-2GB RAM in 6s+ only
-Camera improvements to 6s+ heavily outweigh those in 6s.

I highly doubt any of those will happen. So I'm confident I'll be preordering a 6s.
The battery on the 6+ is MUCH better than the 6. I expect this to be the case for this years s line as well.

Have we talked about the possibility of Apple announcing a Nintendo partnership? I know it's a stretch, but they're using Zelda imagery on the official App Store Twitter. Hmmm.

He is reading too much into this little ad showing their app store game team at Apple as 8-bit characters. People spoof this moment all the time:

FYI...to any old school IGN readers that guy in the middle is Matt Casamassina. Who runs the Game division of the Apple App Store.

And which IGN division did he run? Nintendo's.

With the big N's foray into mobile gaming and Casamassina's connections with the company, I could see some sort of partnership announced.

Casamassina has been at Apple for years I doubt he has any real significant connections with the amount of turnover in NOA leadership since then that would result in anything too significant. I think it's just a little spoof is all.

Well, he was pretty tight with Reggie. Perrin Kaplan is gone though :( she and Matt were awesome together.

I do think there's a decent chance that Nintendo shows off their first mobile game at the conference.

El o el, I'll take that bet. When Apple want third party developers showing games on stage, they want technical showpieces for their hardware (Vainglory, Real Racing, Infinity Blade etc.). Not some Nintendo "help 2D Mario catch cakes falling from the sky!" game.

Doh

The only thing I'd be interested in

Still rocking the original iPad !

Why "doh"? iPad Air 2 is constantly being heavily discounted at places like Best Buy and Target. That won't change. And as others said, even if it's not updated, it's still the best tablet on the market, made more so by the new version of iOS that adds multitasking.

It makes me laugh that people think that Nintendo's first foray into mobile games will be the most cliché and terrible approximation of what mobile games can be. Like the thing ~6 years ago about all flash games being "punch the monkey" simulators. I mean I guess The Pokémon Company *DID* go with a Candy Crush clone but that's beside the point. Mobile is better than that if you're able to look past the piles of garbage. :)

While I do not think Nintendo would be at an Apple event, the thought did cross my mind as various rumor sites started saying that the new Apple TV would have some kind of motion controller. Wii Sports Club (or something like it) would probably do very well.

I'm not saying it will be a bad game. I'm saying it's probably closer to Game&Watch games than their AA-games in terms of scope and graphics.

I sincerely hope you are wrong.

Though, The Pokémon Company did an absolute shit job with the icon/screenshots for Pokémon Shuffle so anything's possible.

oh my it's Matt Casamassina
used to love the IGN GC section when it's under him

Due to the heavy focus on gaming for Apple TV 4 there is a decent change you could see him as one of the presenters at the Sept 9th conference. The guy has come a long way since his days at IGN to rise in the ranks over at Apple.

What has he done other than the incredibly lame Game Center app?

If I'm buying one I want it lumped in with the new processor

Happy to wait

As you can see from my first comment I rock tech for a verrrrry long time before replacing.
Was hoping Air3 would be out with slightly faster tech in it this fall.

My guess is they're going to either kill the Mini after this year or keep it aligned with the Air from here on out. Last year was truly an awful update for the Mini but a huge update for the Air.

IIRC he was hired into the position he currently resides back during the creation of that team. The mobile game stuff got bigger around it though. Always wanted to see him speak since the radio silence so long ago.

He didnt have anything to do with that, he works on the App Store side of things.

When he left IGN, he claimed he was going to work with the team making Game Center.

I hope all the rumors are true and the new Mini is not just shown, but also released shortly thereafter. It would suck if they move the announcement up a month, but then go ahead and release it at the same time of year they usually do (end of October). I need it now. My Mini's performance sucks on Beta 3.

I hope the iPad pro supports video in so it can double as a second screen for laptops etc. Always thought it was a missed opportunity on iPads. Ultra portable battery powered LCD screen just waiting to be used.

That's big for me. I haven't really seen if the OIS on the 6+ made a big difference in the end.

2GB of RAM for only the 6s+ would be awful and would dictate I have tog et that bigger one.

That would be pretty big if Apple got the Forthcoming Nintendo mobile games to appear exclusively or first on the iOS ecosystem with more expensive uprezzed versions for iPad and ATV.

I'm going from a 16gb iphone 4s to a 64gb 6s.

I'm thinking if the battery sucks I'll just buy a 7+ next year, fuck it.

I really hope there's more to the iPad Pro than just a bigger screen and stylus.

It's like that Conan O'Brian skit is coming true.

I'm tempted to go with the Moto X Pure and a iPhone 6s on the side as Samsung Shenanigans are really starting to get to me. I love my S6 but it has been so disgustingly laggy lately that I'm ready to be done with it. I'm still on the fence about giving it away because I'm still in love with this platinum finish but ugh... This is why I swore never to use Samsung again and they roped me in. Hopefully this even is worth while

Wait until the 9th but get an iPad Air 2. The thing is insanely powerful. I downloaded the iOS 9 beta and it runs all the bells and whistles flawlessly. That's why it's not being updated this year, it's already ahead of the curve. The only issue is sound can make it vibrate because it's so thin. Otherwise, perfection. One of the best things apple has ever made IMO.

Could get a price drop too.

If they don't show a new small iPhone I might go back to Android. I could just get an iPod Touch for iOS exclusive apps, I guess.

Can you even get a 4" Android phone with the performance of an iPhone 5s?

Serious question, I'd be interested in other 4" options

Not 4", that format is pretty much dead :( Sony's Xperia Z1 Compact is pretty small, Z3 Compact is a bit bigger, but at that point I might as well get an iPhone 6. Ugh.

I still find it hard to believe Apple is going to unveil THAT much hardware in one event. The iPhone is a sure thing. Maybe the AppleTV and some Watch accessories or enhancements. Beyond that I'm not expecting anything else.

How soon after these announcements do new phones usually hit stores? I'm currently using a 4S, so I'm in desperate need of a new phone.

Will that be available, you think, at launch of the iPhone or should I wait a few weeks?

Honestly, I don't know. They'll announce preorders on September 9th, so I'd say if you want one as close to launch as possible check AT&Ts site after the keynote to see if it's available for preorder, or on whatever day preorders start. If not, it'll probably be there at launch, whenever that is a couple weeks later.

The most you'll end up waiting to place an order is like.. a month after the unveiling, with delivery a couple weeks after that due to demand. As long as you don't need the phone right when it comes out, that's what the timeline should look like. I don't know how good AT&T is about taking preorders on their online store, but if they update right when preorders start, you could get lucky

Anyone know of any catches to T-Mobile's Jump On Demand thing? They told me I can upgrade three times a year, and I'm wanting to get the 6S even though I have the 6.

As far as I know, there's actually no catches. As long as you're paying for the original phone you got with Jump on Demand through monthly device payments (instead of buying the phone outright), you can turn in your current phone and get a new one three times a year. You stop making monthly payments on your current phone and start making them on a new one

As with everything T-Mobile does, you have to be in good credit, etc. Here's the page with FAQs down below:

I did this. The screen is tiny and the battery life is shit, but its performance is excellent, it's great for streaming content to my Apple TV, jogging with Spotify or sending my playlists to my PS4 while I game, accessing the Destiny Companion app etc etc. A much better value imo than any of their overpriced phones.
