About to download the game just one thing, I heard you can lose Quiet after some events of the game, is there a way to keep her in your base?

I don't Ether, after your "meta" theory earlier, I couldn't be too sure.

Is this still too meta for you guys?

How did you guys think the AI was going to "replicate" Big Boss' mind, his meme?

This is a simulation, this is AI training:)

edit: Yes I do know it says "Chanel". Just a funny coincidence in the vid I watched :)

So my thoughts are pretty negative to the story overall.

  • Nameless avatar twist was so dumb. They use hypnosis on him to give him all of Big Boss's skills? Raiden was a character they developed.
  • Parasites are nature's nanomachines, son.
  • Ocelot's a jobber now.
  • Liquid power creep. Also his VO.
  • The Third Child's identity. Power creep would be massive for Mantis. Or he's someone different. Seemed to have a different personality too.
  • Huey should have died. Kept alive for canon reasons I suppose.
  • Otacon is made even cooler by how he managed to turn out despite his insane parents.
  • Losing Quiet permanently makes sense for story reasons, but don't hurt the great gameplay by taking away options.
  • I assume Volgin stops choking Snake because he realizes he's not Big Boss. Would have been nice if he talked.
  • Silent Snake not reacting to things was terrible. Skull Face just talked and talked.
  • Game had a lot of plot structure and influence from Peace Walker. Too much. Obviously Kojima 'doing it right'.
  • Harder to suspend disbelief without that element of cheese that past titles had. Metal Gear taking itself too seriously is not the best.

I still think it's a great game, but other than gameplay I think the other numbered titles are all better. Confirms my theory that Kojima is a better game designer than a storyteller or cinematic director.

Ahh, some new blood starting to creep in.

Other than Ether's obvious sarcasm, seems like the reaction towards the story is going exactly as I thought would be.

I wonder how I woulda felt if came upon the twist organically.

Still not over that they brought back Liquid Snake and Psycho Mantis as evil supervillain children. So unbelievably dumb.

Not really, since Liquid is canonically in Iraq when he was 18 years old. He was also in the SAS at that time, which I mean...would take an extremely talented person in order to serve.

Psycho Mantis...fits with what we know about him. Burned down his village. Between his childhood and his serving the KGB it's unknown what happened to it.

Is it just me or did Eli's VA sound exactly like Daniel Radcliffe?

Yeah, I thought 'Boy that sounds like one of the harry potter kids'.

BTW people who say that when V punches the mirror, the reflection doesn't have the cyborg arm, that's not true. You can barely see it, but it's there. The confusion is because the one in the mirror is not a reflection, so the right arm is punch the left arm. But when he walks away, look carefully on the left, he has the cyborg arm.

So as far as we know, the MSX thing just says "there's a time skip, V eventually turns evil".

Also, it does refer to Outer Heaven as a "military nation" in the timeline, so it is a nation. Ocelot even says to Kaz that BB is creating a "military nation" and refers to it as the true Outer Heaven (as in, not Mother Base). People were saying not, but it looks like BB does create Outer Heaven, he just does it through V. So it's not inconsistent like many were claiming.

Kaz just says he wants BB to go to hell, and that he'll use V and SS to do so. V ruins BB' reputation by probably making a Outer Heaven unlike what BB hoped for, and SS eventually kills BB. So I think people are over reacting over how the story isn't working out. It just sucks stuff was cut, and the only really stupid thing was SF' long ass rant.

edit: Also, pretty sure Paz is really alive. The real story is how it was shown, with the missile shot at the heli. I think it's just presenting the player with a dilemma; help her remember (and the damage it causes to her psyche), or leave her without her memory. The explosion is figurative. Then again, all this being V feeling guilty over her death, that does make sense. No guilt over Chico eh?

My initial reaction upon seeing the ending was extreme annoyance, but upon watching the post-credits conversation it became simple disappointment.

I think the moment in the game I began to grow much more bothered by the story was when the child soldiers became involved. It's as if the game wanted to present an interesting moral dilemma, pitting our values against our need to complete the mission, and making it difficult to do so without going against those values.

I'm not saying I want to be able to slaughter children in a game, but a strength of the MGS series I think has always been placing the value of life squarely in the hands of the player. You can always choose to take the easy way out and kill enemies when it's convenient if you want, but it's on your hands. And here the game takes that control away and tells you that you're going to do things its way.

This feels like something that the development team may have wanted to do though, but were prevented from doing by the business side of things, since giving the player the ability to kill children could lead to some very bad PR.

Edit: And as an aside, Sins of the Father not being Metal Gear's boss theme, and instead playing anticlimactically during a boring car ride, was terrible.

just finished it, called the twist right from prologue otherwise the mirror wouldn't make sense, story sucked!

And about Quiet story, ahahhaha I'm ashamed of my words and deeds.alright.

To me the story is fine, SF' rant was really annoying though, it looked dumb, reminded me of BB at the end of MGS4.

Other than that, disappointing boss fights, but that's not too much a story issue.

The only problem I have goes back to MGS4 really; Ocelot was completely screwed up after MGS3. You could have made it that Liquid really did take over him since MGS2, it would have changed absolutely nothing at all. Be it a remnant of his meme in his nanomachines, or his "thirst for revenge" being so strong, as this game is apparently trying to retcon through Mantis to explain how Liquid could control something/someone else. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the intention really with what happens in MGSV. SF even says "Such a thirst for revenge?" when Salenthroupus is controlled. You could still have a hint of the original Ocelot buried in there like in the ending when he says you're pretty good, but really, it's like the hypnotherapy idea was added at the very end of MGS4. You remove it and it changes nothing.

But now in MGSV, Ocelot is way too different, he's pretty much an angel, the nicest guy on Earth. It'd be fine if we didn't know how he was in MGS1 and MGS2, but we do. His real character is how he is in MGS2, and that's in line with his character in MGS3. He's an asshole, he just wants to be on top of everything, never being controlled, he'll double cross anyone to do his own thing. In this game it doesn't fit, plus another hypnotherapy layer was added. So I guess in MGS1 he hypnotized himself to become loyal to Liquid too. It's pointless.

It really is the one thing that doesn't work. The rest is fine to me.

We've gone too deep

Ocelot is nice when he's around his good buddy Big Boss, everything he does in the series is out of his admiration for the man.

Yes hes knows Venom is fake, but Ocelot is a pro, he'd act exactly how he would around Venom as he would the real BB.

Nah, that's cheap. He isn't acting when he tells everyone "Suckers!!" at the end of MGS2. That's the real Ocelot, that's his attitude, which fits with MGS3. But whatever, doesn't matter really.

I mean...it's all a ploy. Him helping Liquid is a lie. Him helping the Patriots is a lie. Him calling the snakes 'suckers' is most likely a ploy.

Ocelot isn't a nice guy. He tortures people in this game. If that's what you call nice..

Honestly, the entire disk is fantastic. This is another one that's on the disk as well. That's why I'm expecting the documentary of MGS5 to be real good. That's why the end content being bothers me since I know he's always been a perfectionist but then again back when it's the MGS4 days, things were different with Konami.

Here's the MGS2 documentary as well which is also really good.

Is there a MGSV documentary? I thought the only videos that came with the CE were the Kingdom of the Flies and the Legacy video. If there is has anyone posted it yet or seen it?

I'm not asking whether it's possible for future supervillains to show up as already evil supervillain 10 year olds. I'm saying it's unbelievably dumb.

So, what's up with this Codetalker scene in which he says "Eyes on Kazuhira. A message from the parasites."
.

My CE is arriving in a few days but I'm sure others can chime in quicker. There is a documentary disk with the CE but what's the content of it? is what I don't know, the disk has the words spoilers on it as well much like the other documentary disks did so I'm expecting something meaty.

Don't forget that Liquid is topless as a kid with an open shirt. He keeps the same style for decades.

Everything must be connected. Drebin was SIGINT's son.

MGS - where even the silliest and most inconsequential things are connected and over explained while the important plot details make no sense

Cheap? Everything he does in MGS1/2/4 is for the goal of reviving BB and realizing his dream. He was acting and playing everyone in all of those games, the only person he would ever let down his guard around and act like his "true self" would be Big Boss.

MGS3 he started as a young brash little shit and at the end of the game he had the biggest boner for Big Boss, he changed over the course of the game, what we call development.

Apparently If you buy a nuke, you'll lose 50,000 heroism points.Which will, depending on your current heroism level, most likely send Snake into full demon mode. His horn will stick out much more than usual, and he will be permanently drenched in blood (showers won't get it off) until you gain your heroism back. Not only that but your FOB will be open to a nuke attack, instantly wiping everyone out.

I'm so split on this ending. It splits Big Boss' awesomeness in half.

Well, he's the one who did all the awesome shit in the opening to get his phantom out. Aside from that, I liked the ending but loved the meta message aside from the message, it works in the context of MGS5 being VS to spread the legend of BB wider and then him dying by the hands of SS.

I mean, I get the message. Big Boss wouldn't be who he is without us (the player) who is represented through the medic, MSF's best soldier. However, it fell short lore wise. He's a nameless dude. I get he was supposed to be 'us', though.

Yeah, Big Boss got us out of the hospital and did cool shit, but everything else was phantom boss. I suppose the last time we ever played real Big Boss was in Ground Zeroes. Speaking of GZ, will it be getting an engine update to look and feel more like TPP gameplay wise? (New animations, movement, etc)

I was a little disappointed Mother Base didn't feel as 'alive' as it did in the E3 demos. Weird to see Eli's and Ocelot's relationship in this knowing their relationship during Shadow Moses. Same with Mantis and Eli.

I am at mission 30 right now. The part you are riding with skullface is just awkward as fuck.

It consists of the following

COHXGuIUAAAKMq-.jpg:large

Snake staring at Skullface as he talks, not saying a word, being awkward as fuck. then...

Snake staring at the camera, making this more awkward as fuck.

Kojima did say we'll be going back to camp omega for those that played GZ from what I remember, now it's just a matter of waiting or finding out within the game? Who knows.

Miller told him to just go listen to what he has to say before killing him thus all I got from this scene was SF's final words and BB not giving a fuck because all he has in his mind that he's going to kill him.

That's the thing, is that many scenes in the game get the same reaction from Big Boss. This scene isn't unique in the way that he awkwardly stares and doesn't say anything.

That and little boys ( especially those with long hair) can be quite feminine looking before hitting puberty.
For me it's the hair really. When the e3 trailer first came out I assumed he was a woman. It's also rendered in the exact same way that Paz's hair is rendered oddly enough.

I have two questions guys related to gameplay and i figure this is the best place to ask since most people here finished the game.

1- How do i contain the disease from spreading in the MB?
2- At which point Quiet leaves?

1. Quarantine everyone that speaks both English and Kinkonko (might be Kinkonko only?).
2. There will be a mission related to that and I read somewhere that you can skip it.

Logically speaking she won't survive for more than a day even if the crash didn't happen and there was no 2nd bomb, because the first bomb inside her body meant vital organs (likely at least her stomach) were removed, and she was given nutrition and adrenaline injection to keep her standing. She was completely a disposable bait set up by Skullface.

I quarantined everyone who spoke English. That stopped the disease from spreading. Should i add Kinkonko speakers too? Or should i release the ones who don't speak Kinkonko?

103 staff members left working in the base. 539 quarantined. WTF?

How do I trigger the scene with Venom and Quiet playing in the rain ? I've got her buddy meter full for a while, and just finished episode 34, and her torture scene.

Did I miss it ? is it a mandatory trigger or do i have to do something specific for it (like visit her somewhere specific during rain ?)
