On The Truth chapter now. They're not really going to make me replay this whole chapter... Are they?

Edit: nvm they are. This fucking game. What a joke.

I hope someone can answer this...

The scene in the trailers where it's all black and smokey behind BB....he screams up and you can see his breath....I never saw that in the game - did I miss something?

Another one from the trailers too that I never saw was when you see his face full on soaked in blood with the horn huge and fire in behind him.....never saw that either.

Did I miss cutscenes?
Seems like it's been changed since a similar scene plays after Venom kills his infected soldiers

It was so bad that he makes you play the entire chapter for that bit at the end. It makes no sense for it to be done that way. It even has the tutorial button prompts.

I just turned off the game and went straight to YouTube. What a waste of time, along with the entire second episode.

Opening hour was the one of the worst opening hours I've experienced in a long time.

Which reminds me, I HATED the way the cutscenes were filmed. Not just all the overblown effects with the lens flare/distortions and DoF, but the one take thing is so restrictive and phony. It actively takes me out of the experience how it ZOOMS in or has to pan around for reaction shots.

I enjoyed this random cutscene with much more primitive tech than anything in MGS5.

pre-edit: omfg when Ocelot mocks Snake and laughs then has to look at his boys "ya'll better laugh at this shit with me" and they quickly cut to the reaction shots. This is the kinda character MGS5 never displays, and for all its cutting edge tech it feels like they really went backwards.

The one take cutscene idea for eveyrthing was bad.
It's way too close with a very narrow FOV and shaky with fast zoom and panning.

It's restrictive, feels like the entire game Kojima wanted to try something different but because it was his first try at these things he ended up doing the mistakes others in the west have done in the past and gotten backlash over.

So I think i finally realized the context of quiet leaving at the end of the game. had to rewatch a few scenes. since she has the parasites, they were programmed for the English language. So when she spoke it, she had to leave so she wouldnt infect anyone else. She wanted to show her gratitude to snake, and in that context she sacrificed her life to show it.

correct me if im wrong?

Couple more questions now I've slept on it:

1) seriously, is there no reason for why BB and VS have the same voice? I won't let this go if there isn't, even for metal gear my suspension of disbelief just can't take that!

2) is there any story stuff tied to side ops? I know Paz is, anything else?

3) More MG1 stuff so probably retconned or people don't know but, BB has to go back to running Foxhound right? Why would he though? Foxhound is part of the military isn't it? And so by extension cipher??

I kind of wasn't clear on this either, we see her speaking English in front of VS, shouldn't we be seeing people die?

It isn't in the game, it was probably cut like mission 51.

God the last quiet mission is a fuck. It's so fun having a bunch of insta kill tanks hoarde mode on you :/

Spent 3 hours on that damn mission tonight. It's garbage.

On one of my tries I sent in 5 Pequods who all died in seconds. Pretty funny.

I don't think I've gotten to the "true" ending yet, just beat the Metal Gear, but even without the "true" ending. That's it? The story is awful. Really bad. This game has so many issues. The credits before each mission. When I rescued Code Talker, the cutscene that followed played the whole time at 1fps. Literally 1 fps. The super repetetive side ops. Over and over and over. The terrible MB management. The emblem customization runs at about 15 fps for me. The constant lagging of the iDroid when connected to Konami's server's really bugs me.

I've never had so much fun "playing" an MGS, and yet hate so much about it at the same time. And then to go on to Kotaku and find out the entire ending was essentially cut. Terrible MGS. Very fun MGS too.

I'd say it should have rated in the 7's or low low 8's. Can't see how this got so many 10's.

I do look forward to mods to add more to the game. I'll say I really enjoyed having custom music to play on the chopper, I loved coming into a hot zone blasting "Ante Up" or "Space Jam". The controls were pretty good but the m/kb controls for "sneaking" speed was/is terrible. Also, the golden bionic arm is pretty boss and was fun to lure soldiers away with a decoy and then run up on them and jaw jack em'. Fun game to play, terrible plot. Hopefully when the online launches I'll get some more enjoyment out of it. D-Dog was a super fun buddy and I really enjoyed having him around.

Off to Mad Max.

You've only beaten Chapter 1. That's the first of three 'endings'. Hell, four endings if you include the cut one.

I love mgs5, but all in all I found the ending to pretty pretty unsatisfactory. The Eli bit was cut, we never get to learn any more about psycho mantis, we don't see Outer Heaven get established, and most notably it doesn't completely connect to the original metal gear. There's still the huge bit where big boss has to work as a double agent against foxhound. We still have no idea how he was able to do this. I hope Kojima speaks a bit about stuff soon in the future, just to put things to rest.

I mean, I can see how it got 10's. Even with the story fuckery, its easily the best game I've played this generation. Just about to go clear up the side ops this morning and probably end up getting the platinum on it. Then probably get the PC version when I get my new rig and play through again at some point in 4k.

Why do people want to make the story in the MGS series simple straight forward stories like say Uncharted lol? Now I see why MGS3 gets so much love. It's a simple story. MGSV is a great addition to the series gameplay AND story wise. The MGS series has always been a mind trip except for MGS3. Were you all really expecting a simple story like MGS3? MGS3 was simple because it was the beginning. Everything afterwards and you better strap yourselves in for a ride...

Who said anything about wanting straight forward?

People are fine with twists, it's just that most of TPP's fall flat.

Yeah it seems to be a general feeling of "so?"

Venom was playing the role of BB, ok cool, so what does that mean now? It ain't like he's ever mentioned again, Solid never finds out, BB couldn't be assed to mention him on his deathbed.

Unless MG1/2 remakes were planned/confirmed to be coming out (and that ship has sailed with Kojima leaving) then this Venom twist just ends up feeling incredibly inconsequential. A twist just for the sake of a twist, the meta nature of it just can't carry it alone.

I agree. In the end venom snake was useless. His existence meant nothing.

MGS1, and especially MGS2, paid off their twists/reveals well, and were paced well enough within the story that the repercussions could be explored. MGSV is just... here's the twist, that's all, folks!

Yeah, I'm starting to think from Chapter 2's content that we got Evangelioned and Konami basically said "we've had enough, get it out now"

so if quiet breathes through her skin, what's with the long ass glove on her left arm and the stockings

the cutscene with her landing in mother base is so dramatic and i'm not sure why

miller is super pissed cause she's with cypher, but okay, so were you

and medic is like i'll pull the trigger, so why even keep her around again

There's still 11 years between TPP and MG1. I'm not sure if DLC or another game was planned or what, but hopefully we find out in the future.

Like if episode 51 was planned to be after the Truth ending, then there's yet another ending, but even that doesn't finish things up in that story point so there could have been even more. I doubt they could have made that twist feel much different, but I think it's clear that's not supposed to be where this all ends.

Fair point, for the way they treat Huey and all, Miller was with Cipher =/

There is nothing great about MGS5's story because it's so disjointed and presented in a very obfuscate manner. The entire game could not exist and the only thing that would get affected is Venom Snake being the villain in MG1...which is a retcon and done so in a very very poor manner that it feels like a cop out. And the way it's presented is as bad as Heavy Rain here because it presents you with a false happening of events and then at the end inserts the "truth" in between, and if that game got flak for it then this one should too. This game should have been simply about BB turning into the villain he was in MG1 who then becomes the old man in MGS4 who is aware that his generation fucked everything up.

Skull face's plan within plan for a grander plan makes is equally as bad as previous games. And if people had issues with nanomachines in MGS4 then they should have issues with parasites here too.

Lastly, there is nothing simple and straightforward about MGS3's story. It is less convoluted but it is certainly not simple and straightforward, I think it was the right amount of everything from cutscene to gameplay to craziness. MGS1 was the game that had a simple and straightforward story...not MGS3.

Because in a large amount of situations, simple premise=good, convoluted premise=bad. Especially when the one that's convoluted have way..WAY worse pacing than the simple ones. Yes MGS3 is a simple premise, but it's a character story. This game's story is incredibly disjointed and poorly paced.

I can't wait to unlock the ending where everyone in Mother Base stands in a circle around Venom, and then proceeds to congratulate him for five minutes. Congratulations!

I honestly cannot see how anyone can look at Chapter 2 from gameplay and story POV both and not realise that this is an unfinished game. The repeats of missions that were already somewhat filler and how the only way story progresses for the most part in chapter 2 is once you do 3-4 missions/side missions to get a cutscene and so on rather than something that actually pertains to the story. Not to mention repeat of the entire prologue 1:1 for that little scene at the end rather than skimming through it. Then there are some other examples of gameplay being affected such as Quiet leaving forever after her ending because the story demanded it and but Snake popping up back in ACC after being pinned down followed by a cutscene ending in TBC is fine...it's all so disjointed.

And I actually won't put all the blame on Konami, it's the developer's responsibility to meet the schedule afterall. Basically you don't start new shit if you cannot resolve it.

*Venom Snake just stands there expressionless with no acknowledgment of anyone around him.

If we are going by what the game told us, the rogue Cipher was first Skullface, then now its the Cipher AI, aka what becomes to be the Patriots. Zero and BB buried the hatchet, or so we assume at this point. Perhaps they felt they could stop the proxies from the inside.

Eh? Is this in the tapes? I've still not got to listening to the truth tapes yet I admit.

The man who sold the world doesn't really fit when I think about it. How did he sell the world? Plus Bowie doesn't really fit in here, as with the rest of the game it feels out of place IMO, just like Sins of the father during that awkward Jeep ride.

Yeah, I don't get it, it just feels like he wanted a Bowie song name in there =/
