It is amazing that they can see from inside the vocal chords.

Well if Code Talker can see all over Motherbase, don't see why they can't either.

That's because both Codetalker and Quiet used it on their bodies. Quiet after getting burned and Codetalker when he was doing his research so that he doesn't get older if I remember correctly. It's all in the tapes but my take on it is that Quiet simply wanted to look like she didn't understand English and just did her own shit.

Well we do know about demon points that are basically a hidden game mechanic. Who knows what else is hidden lol.

I will say, the ending still hasn't fully settled in, and I think the jury is still out on how I see the full series being impacted by it...

But I loved that single shot when Ocelot is lighting Snake's cigar, with dawn breaking behind them. There was this sense of everything that was about to happen; the whole story of the series about to unfurl, and Big Boss- the true Big Boss- riding off to meet it. Can't deny some of the cinematography and visual metaphors were well done here.

Would have been a gread lead-in to either MGS6/Chapter 3.

Finished it an hour ago and I don't have a clue what to do. Literally been sat here thinking about shit.

Incredible.

So. In the Hospital did anyone try to kill Ishmael?
Because it says "Time Paradox" instead of game over just like in Ground Zeroes when Bif Boss dies.
At least in the second play through. I'm too tired to play through the first mission again up to the point where you get a gun just to check this out, but it'd be a cool touch.

do the skulls need to be incapacitated or can they be dead ?

I have no idea how im supposed to extract the armored skulls when they take no damage from non lethal weapons

They can be dead. There is a little bit of time when you kill them all to extract the bodies before they jump away.

i can't stop thinking about the twist. All today at work I've been less alert and screwing up, just because of the twist. Its like, I get that it's supposed to be nice that "we" are big boss, but I don't give a shit about the adventures of 105.Will the medic.

That final Paz cutscene really feels like something out of Silent Hill. Makes we wish Kojima would have a go at a psychological game like Silent Hill (wherever he's going to end up)

After seeing a guy shoot exploding bees from his mouth and making a Tommy gun out of them, anything is possible.

Don't forget he can also teleport from one place to another using a swarm of bees as a conduit.

Because fuck being 'meta'. It was nice and surprising in MGS2. But not this time. It wasn't necessary this time. I wanted to play as Big Boss. The REAL one. Naked Snake. The man who killed The Boss and started spiraling down to madness. All those scenes in the trailers? I wanted Big Boss to shoot those kids (Yes, I'm twisted). I wanted to see John/Jack become the corrupted legendary soldier that he was in the previous games.

All we got was a body double barely making "evil" things. Kojima couldn't even turn a fake Big Boss into a demon. What a failure.

Actually, that's genius Kojima writing. Much like the Skulls the bee attuned parasites inside of The Pain can disassemble him at a molecular level and reassemble him in a different location.

Aren't you glad that was explained?

Yuo it says the same the first time you do the prologue. Noticed it warching the gamespot playthrough of the 1st level, Danny died and it said mission failed, then Ishmael died and it said time paradox

The more I read about MGS1 and the entire localization and how Twin Snakes was basically Kojima's original vision, the more I'm starting to question a lot of what I've said about Kojima.

I kinda feel like Venom Snake right after Big Boss dropped off the tape to him lol

The more I think and the more I read, is really starting to piss me off. Goddamn

Yeah, I was hoping that it would be cleared up when I saw what others were posting, but it has gotten worse and worse somehow.

The game is fucking great.
The plot is fucking terrible.

I think the big MGS5 twist might have been fine if the game was longer and went into Operation Intrude. As it stands, it serves as a cliffhanger and throws events from MG out of whack.

I will be completely honest with this. The nanomachines and the parasites don't bother me. The bullshit magic that those two plot devices can accomplish is basically supernatural anyways. The fact that it was "bullshit science" does not make it any less supernatural in my eyes. Vamp was immortal. The Cobra Unit had all sorts of crazy powers. That hasn't changed.

Would I have preferred if those things were not explained? Definitely. But the 'explanation' doesn't bother me. What 'Nanomachines' and 'Parasites' can do in this franchise are supernatural levels of insanity, anyways.

I really do think more plot was planned, but I'm curious as to how much of the cut work was Kojima, and how much was Konami pulling the plug and and the dev team salvaging what was left.

It feels a lot like Xenogears to me. Amazing first-half, then a second-half that takes a weird narrative turn. It wouldn't surprise me if, like Xenogears, it was due to budget and meddling suits.

In a nutshell.

Also, Huey screaming at the DDogs being a bunch of psychopaths was FUCKING RICH

Is Emmerich the only original voice actor in the game? In hindsight, I see why they recasted Snake but I wonder why Ocelot didn't return.

Kaz is the same,
Paz is the same
Boss is the same
Strangelove is the same
Huey is the same

Zero is different,
Ocelot is different, his original trailer voice was a better match but they decided to chang Troy's version.
Snake is different

Huey screaming about killing the infected in an uncontrollable outbreak that could destroy the world annoyed me more.

Like, seriously, what is your alternative Huey?

I have a few theories about the unfinished nature of this game.

There are rumors that a third open world environment was cut, and I recall multiple sources stating that there would be several locations to visit in game, implying more than just two. There's the island Eli escapes to in the cut episode 51, which we know for a fact was into development enough to have cutscenes taking place there. My guess is that the "repeat" missions in Chapter 2 were originally supposed to be new missions at Eli's Lord of the Flies homage, culminating in a final showdown with Sahelanthropus driven by young Mantis and Eli. This would have led to a different ending and ended Eli's and Mantis' plot threads.

My second theory is something I think probably changed as the game was being made, rather than being cut at the end. We begin with a flash forward to Outer Heaven, and all of the trailers point to this being Big Boss' fall from grace. I don't think the Eli story was meant to be the end - I believe we were originally supposed to either retake control of BB himself after a timeskip, or complete more missions with Venom leading up to the Outer Heaven uprising. Part of my reason for suspecting this is not only the marketing for the game and the fact that Venom is there in OH at the beginning and the end of the game, but in that in one of the very first trailers, we see one of the very last cutscenes in the game, which is Big Boss on his motorcycle. That entire scene seemed to be leading up to something else.

The chapter system makes no sense because there are only two chapters. I think Kojima originally truly intended to fill the gap between Peace Walker and MG1 with multiple chapters, perhaps 3 or even 4 or 5 of them, but the sheer expense of the game made him fall short of his vision, so he was forced to compromise. I also bet that Konami was very upset with where he wanted to go, how much he had spent on just the first chapter or so of the game, and how much left he still wanted to do. He also made decisions like creating a brand new engine, hiring high profile Hollywood actors for mocap and VA, which likely cut into the budget a LOT. Then they realized he was going to do another project, also likely of a huge budget, with P.T., and they got scared and pulled the plug, causing the game to be rushed to shelves and left largely incomplete.

I feel like Kojima's vision for this game was insane. In a good way. Too insane to be fully realized, to the point where it got cut down both during conception (possibly several times) and then again towards the end of its development. These are just my own theories, and I have nothing to back them up other than what I've said, but I feel like something went down during development because the marketing for this game and the finished product don't seem to agree with one another.

Kojima is a genius game designer and a hack writer. As he's gained more and more influence we get to see more and more of what his actual writing is (as opposed to, say, Tomokazu Fukushima's writing), and it sucks.

Portable Ops shows that when Kojima has less of an influence on the script you can have a chapter in the saga of Metal Gear Solid that develops characters without relying on shitting the bed with crazy nonsense.

Metal Gear Solid should have a dedicated writer that isn't Kojima, like Shinkawa as the series art designer.

Metal Gear Solid without Kojima is something I have a great interest in seeing.

If anything, story might improve, but I think gameplay and attention to detail will suffer immensely.

It's funny how, in terms of the franchise's chronology/timeline, Portable Ops is way more essential than Peace Walker or The Phantom Pain.

Looks like someone got hair-sprayed.

The music actually sounds like Silent Hill too.

And there is still hope. INGSOC.org has been about both MG and PT. Last time Konami had a counter teaser like this, they announced MGS PW and Rising.

Agreed. I used to think without him it'd be nothing interesting, but if MGS continues without him, I'll gladly carry on buying.

The story will probably get better, but I don't think Konami would put anyone in-charge of the franchise that wouldn't essentially be a "yes-man" anyway, especially now that everything is decentralized.

Its basically going to turn into a COD-style yearly franchise if I'm reading Konami correctly.

I may hate the ending, but I've gotta admit The Phantom Pain is one of the most fascinating games I've ever played, and not because of its content. From its fake out reveal trailer, to its weird marketing and the whole debacle with Konami vs Kojima, and now this whole deal with the ending. There's just so much interesting stuff surrounding this game.

Huey screaming about killing the infected in an uncontrollable outbreak that could destroy the world annoyed me more.

Pretty sure he just bitches at Venom to deflect any suspicions as to his own guilt regarding the outbreak.

If of these are true it makes me even more depressed, because imagine the game we COULD have gotten

Grey Fox having been a ninja from the start is still completely stupid. And that cheesy psychic prophecy.

The whole Gray Fox stuff was unnecessary. I agree.

I have no problem with Elisa's prophecy. At least she was a psychic. Way better than the "The sons are destined to fight against each other" bullcrap that we got at the end of MGSV.

But I'm not speaking about that. Portable Ops is the game where we find out how Zero got his hands on the Legacy. Without it, we are left with a huge hole and Zero just mysteriously became the most powerful man on Earth for no reason.

Looking back on it, when Tomokazu Fukushima left the series took a complete nose dive for me.

MGS4 was fucking horrible and Peace Walker was also pretty bad story and writing wise and so is MGSV for the most part.

If his vision really was that large, I almost feel like he should've tried his hand at episodic releases.

Of course, that might've been what Ground Zeroes was originally testing, and Konami priced it out of the segment he was aiming for.
