I'm siding with the people that said Kojima can't write for shit. You can tell this Venom Snake bullshit came straight from his ass. Terrible writing.

The fact that Big Boss' character has been cut down because of this 'twist' is the least of it's problems.

I still want to believe the theory that Big Boss is having an identity crisis and there is no venom, but there's to much evidence against it. Man fuck this. I need to forget about this story asap

Agreed. There's too much wrong with the "Truth" to see it as an accurate portrayal of facts. Ishmael with a functioning eye, no beard, ocelot talking to BB at like 6am at dawn when you escape on horse nearer to 4am. There was a picture thing about this but I forget where.

I just finished the truth mission and all I can feel is bitter dissapointment and confusion. You'd have to actively try to come up with a plot twist this dumb.

Just finished it.

I liked it a lot. Not sure what all the rage is about. I watched the scene that was cut as well and, while its disappointing that it was cut, I am ultimately okay with the way the game ended. It seems pretty clear that this game was going to lead into MG1/2 remakes due to all the set up at the end but maybe that Kojima realized what was going to happen and it was too late to fix it.

This is basically my exact sentiment as well. Though, it probably helped that I figured out the huge twist way before this game came out.

Also, when you think about it, the conclusion doesn't really alter the established dynamic of the bigger picture of Metal Gear apart from the identity of BB in Operation Intrude. SS still ends up "killing" the real one a few years later. And as I mentioned previously, it pretty much hints that Big Boss already set out to be what he eventually became long before TPP

I know people want to think this whole thing is a ruse and there's more to it, but I really think it's meant to be taken at face value. I hate admittng it, but I think that's all there is.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?!?!
The way he gets so comically dragged away during this scene makes it.

It may not have been intended to be hilarious, but it certainly was.

Also, if there's a #1 thing wrong with the story in this game, it was that awful, awkward Sins of the Father usage. Venom and Skull Face stare at each other on a truck while it plays. Alright.

Well, after knowing about Venom, the silence kinda makes sense now lol.

Dude was probably just all like

Oh wow that reminds me, Man on Fire went out like a punk. No boss fight, nothing. Doesn't even get stomped out by a Metal Gear but rather the platform carrying it.

Even the companion app for TPP doesn't work on the first iPad mini and it starts working from the iPad 4 (or even higher ) while the GZ works on anything and is even better. What's wrong with them ?

On that note, the way Volgina reacts later though during his formal exit from the game was a dead giveaway to the ending.

Ah, that's ok.

I think I prefer the MGS4 version because the tone fits with the scene that plays immediately before it (Which is Big Boss' dying over The Boss' grave while Solid Snake watches in silence).

I can definitely see it being better when heard during the actual game

Is this in Phantom Pain?

I asked a couple of times in the OT and nobody answered, so probably not. I really wanted to put it as my helicopter music.

e: I think it's the sort of victorious feeling you get from the original that I like so much

Wait, so Mission 46 is literally just a copy-paste of the tutorial mission, complete with button/tutorial prompts and everything?

Usually, when a game has a bunch of content stripped out of its ending, it speaks to a fucked-up development cycle. Case in point - Mass Effect 3.

Yes. It's fucking annoying since the only differences are at the very start and the very end. Putting us through that slow ass crawl for a 2nd time Just skip the cutscenes until the end after you get out of the bed.

It has subtle differences, but yeah, it's the same until the ambulance flips.

Should have just been a cutscene. Show the beginning change, a montage of the actual game bit maybe highlighting that the inconsistencies with Ishmael were just us not seeing things right (like how there were two head bandage people in the corridor, show what Ishmael did during distracting the guards etc) and then show the twist stuff. Absolutely no need for it to be the same exact gameplay sequence with literally nothing changed including still having tutorial prompts.

Soooo why the hell does Venom have a real arm and no horn in the original MG?

I was so hoping that the horn getting bigger was something that happens as the story progresses. Like it gets pushed out of the skull because it's healing or whatever (parasites?) but also was a visual representation of BB's descent into evil. The more evil acts he did, the bigger it got until the end where it falls out and he's made peace with the demon he became.

Except no, because it's tied to a hidden stat that goes up if you kill people or have nukes. And nothing evil even gets done in the game. And you aren't BB anyway.

Not to mention if anyone were crazy enough to play the series for the first time in chronological order, it kinda resonates more emotionally after listening to the GZ ver.

Is completing mission 16 without the upgraded fulton even possible?
Sure. Use the tanks to blow up the Skulls and drive the Truck out of the hotzone. I also thought about trying an amush, blocking the street somewhere and plaster the place with C4 so you can blow up the Skulls when they appear. Would need some experimenting for the placement so you dont accidently blow up the Truck.

edit: wait a second. This isn't the OT:

Even worse is that the lyrics of Sins of the Father have no relevance whatsoever to the game. What sins do DD have? Whose blood can't they wash of their hands? What outrageous actions do they do to make the world fear them? There's not one single action that can solely be justified as a means to an end.

may have been easier to copy/paste with differences than do a montage at the time konami was shitcanning your boss for budget reasons

It even resets your control settings.

Didn't Kojima say this isn't MGS5, but MGSV?

This making it a side story like Peacewalker.

Is that way it makes more sense that the protagonist is different.

BB basically had his story too in 3 and 4.

Well, that's hard to see in a sprite like this, bro...

But the real answer is: Because this is a retcon.

lol You'd think Solid in MG2 would notice and be like "Didn't you have a bigass horn in your head? And a red arm?" To Big Boss.

Poor Venom man. Always was BB's most loyal soldier and it ultimately killed him.

Sure.

I'm an idiot. I didn't even know you could hijack the tanks. I thought you had to blow them up. Do you sneak up to them and press triangle?

Did I miss a tape or something about Kaz's eyes looking like Code Talker's or was this just an undeveloped bit thrown in just because?

If there was, I missed it too. I was just like "wut is he blind or a parasite person now?" and it was never mentioned or talked about again.

But the real answer is: Because this is a retcon.

"This is good isn't it?"

"Yeah...hey wait I got question?"

"Huh?"

"How come you didn't have a horn anymore when we fought in Zanzibarland?"

"Uhhhhhhh..."

"Oh, and you managed to get a real hand back then too."

"UHHHH"

"Well?"

"Um...BLARGH IM DEAD"

No clue. I think it's implied that Kaz is now blind but it happened before you even rescue him. But he seems to see fine. And there is the reference with "you'll be my eyes" but he seems to be able to see shit ok.

Codetalker is probably blind and uses the parasites to "see"
