Seeing Paz again is a gut punch.

As I said in another thread, this game had the perfect setup to find an orphaned girl in Afghanistan that interacts with Quiet and DD. It can't be more cheesy than having adorable cutscenes with the sniper and the wolf buddy that turn tge girl into the direction of her future.

Ha, I always wondered why it wasn't a dog, like, what's the reasoning? A dog could be as aggressive, so why a wolf? But now I see it.

No. Only one of them is the real Big Boss, which is the man we met in MG2:SS and the ending of MGS4. The other is "the phantom".

Exactly. This game is just one huge missing opportunity after another.

The "real" BB says that together, they are Big Boss, not one or the other. He doesn't mention how V is building up his reputation for nothing. They are both Big Boss together.

MGSV-2
Real Big Boss sends young Sniper Wolf on a mission to kill Quiet...

This is a Venom vs BB story just waiting to happen, though that would depend on how much the player bonded with Quiet.

Then again, considering Meryl, it's not like non-linear story choice is important in this series anyway.

It would be hilarious is Venom if the one did everything "BB" did up until MG2.

All the people in Foxhound and Outer Heaven idolized a fake, meanwhile the real one is all "lol who the fuck is Gray Fox, damnit Venom now I gotta role with it"

No, the one speaking in the tape is the real one. The one listening is known as the phantom. He's a body double made to look like Big Boss.

To me that would feel like a kick in the balls, to be honest. I don't want the phantom to interfere any further with the canon. It's bad enough that we are fighting a fake at the end of the original game, I would like to stop it there.

I guess I'm coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't really give a shit about Big Boss. I mean, MGS3 was great, but Solid Snake is the hero of the Metal Gear series. And MG1 had a bad story anyway, so this actually makes the timeline a bit more interesting before MG2.

And by interesting I mean insane yes. :P

i like that real big boss first starts talking about how fake boss is "[his] own man," who made "[his] own mark on history" and then immediately starts saying "well actually we're both me"

Geez are you in denial? BB says that he and V TOGETHER are now Big Boss.

Stop.

While I agree with the bolded, I also cared greatly about Big Boss and his legacy. Which is now tainted thanks to MGSV's idiotic twist....

I don't care what Big Boss says. The reality is that there's only one real Big Boss, and the other one is a body double.

Chapter 1 has to do with Skull Face who having lost his own sense of culture and 'fatherland', decides to lash out against the world and deprive Zero of the same. He feels that you can't really make the world one in Zero's approach.

Chapter 2 is how Big Boss is in some ways similar to Zero in how both Kaz and him are forcing their own ideals and values onto these children who ultimately reject it. Eli wants to be free to make his own decisions and values and if so, die with them. That's partially why Episode 51 was so vital as it shows how both chapters are about the same thing, loss of cultural identity and forcing that on locals.

Who gives a shit about cannon? The creator doesn't, and the proper way to enjoy MG cannon is not to care about congruency of the cannon.

Which again, reinforces the fact that "Big Boss" is an idea, a legend that anyone can strive for.

Yep, so whoever goes by the name Big Boss and leads Foxhound later on, could be anyone. Could just be someone given the title.

Your idea of what Chapter 2 represents might be true. Huey's sub plot certainly fits with forcing your will on children.

I can't stop thinking this either. it just makes me angry, really.. and I literally mean angry, not disappointed. Almost 30 years and this is what I get. One hundred ways to go, dozens of things to say and show.. and this is what I get. I'll let my imagination do a better job, like it did in these last years.

You should have let the scene go on for abit more because BB also said.

"Under certain conditions, someone can be made to play a specific role...Act like someone else."

I'm mostly just joking, but I mean for all intents and purposes they literally made Big Boss 1.01

Even with that leaked tape, I stand by my statement that Big Boss is a jerk.

I mean, it literally terns out Outer Heaven was

I'm also gonna use the Renegade prompt and suggest that the real mistake wasn't using Kiefer starting with Ground Zeroes, but rather not using him starting with MGS3. I never liked Hayter as BB; he's just too iconic as SS.

Considering that a large part of Solid Snake's backstory is that he was betrayed by the man who taught him and was his own "father" that he had to kill. leading up to meeting that guy decades later where he makes a deathbed apology for the actions he personally made, that would be quite the feat if it was just some guy who happened to have "Big Boss: 1964-1975" loaded into his brain Matrix style.

btw what was that thread about "Big Boss literally jacked into the matrix"?

I didn't go into it cause I thought the thread title was actually a spoiler

Snake is a puppet. Solidus is the hero of the Metal Gear series.

Solidus had high and mighty ideals for someone who raised child soldiers.

Solidus wanted to nuke New York

Ocelot made the ultimate sacrifice, he is the hero of the Metal Gear series.

Solidus didn't want to nuke New York. For starters, the nuke was gonna be detonated in the atmosphere just to disable Manhattan and turn it offline. Secondly, that plan was false anyway. That is what Ames THOUGHT Solidus was gonna do but his plan was simply to get access to GW to find a list of names of the Patriots.

Ocelot wanted to plunge the world into a straight up dark age. Unlike Sunny + Naomi, his plan for destroying the Patriots did not involve keeping the infrastructure of society intact. He wanted a wild west.

That was just a thread about a graphics glitch on the PC version or something. It showed corrupted textures looking funny.

Which part?

It was Big Boss. Now Big Boss is a we.

No. Big Boss is one man. There's another that goes by that title, but he's just a body double.

The credits crawl that explain that "Big Boss's phantom" died in Outer Heaven couldn't be arsed to pretend it was equivalent to the real non-asterisk Big Boss there.

Oh.

I should be more up to date on this stuff, I feel kinda ashamed I don't remember everything :(

You can also look at Quiet, Kojima purposefully chose Native Americans for both Quiet and Code Talker. Look at what America did to the Native Americans.

As far as the world is concerned, why does it matter?

We are not talking about the world. We are talking about canon and we, the players, as the spectators. We know Venom is not the real Big Boss.

Big Boss is a title, it's an abstraction by definition. I thought having the Zero tape where he calls him "Jack" was, in that way, a nice touch.

Yep. And it was a title given officially to John by the US government. The other man is an imitation.

Continuing from the OT thread, why the hell would Kojima make Quiet permanently gone? Any chance of patching her back in? lol

Yeah. He is Jack and has always been. Big Boss is a title that has been dropped, picked up and diluted everywhere.

No. Big Boss is two men. One of them is the original Naked Snake and the other is double Venom Snake, both sharing the glory, the title and the legend.

Just to end up like this:

One of my biggest gripes of MGS4.

Just plain ol' shit tier game design.

Naked Snake is the real Big Boss.
