Can someone explain to me Skull Face's plan? Like on a simple day-to-day basis?
So first he raids the hospital to kill Big Boss. But then he just kind of teases him when Metal Gear holds him helpless. Then he has a gun pointed at BB's head but tells Volgin to just burn him instead. So like, does he want him dead or what?
And speaking of, why? Seems like his beef is with Zero. He should really be allies with Big Boss. Or at least an enemy of my enemy type deal. Maybe withhold the whole "I'm going to kill all English speakers" thing and play up the "man Zero really is a dick" angle. Instead I'm getting whiplash trying to figure out if he wants Big Boss dead, as a buddy, or just to kind of hang out and chill for a quick jeep ride.
And what was this deal with Metal Gear? There's some implication that he built the new MG to hold the world hostage. But ten years earlier, America had already successfully built Peace Walker. Even if we accept that the new MG is more advanced, and it really is, we know for certain that at least one super power also has this kind of tech. We can assume the Soviets have something similar, unless they really did just give up after Shagohod. And this is all just a ruse right, since the parasite is the real end game? Again, why?
I'm not sure, but here's how I understand it.
Skull Face wanted Big Boss dead, so he invaded the hospital. Simultaneously Volgin and Mantis are headed to kill Big Boss, so XOF end up fighting Volgin, leading to Big Boss' escape.
Somehow Skull Face is able to contain and manipulate Mantis and Volgin for his objective.
When Big Boss is captured it's typical villain 'drop him into a pool of sharks instead of kill him' stupidity. Big Boss manages to survive. He doesn't hate Big Boss, but he doesn't want Big Boss interfering with his plans, so he'll try to kill him, but isn't too bothered, or something.
Sahaelanthropus wasn't operational, that's why Huey is so surprised to see it working. Skull Face took a lot of short-cuts, like making its armour from depleted uranium (I think) instead of titanium to cut costs. It's cockpit is too small to house an adult, because it was first designed for AI, but Skull Face decided against that. Really it's just a marketing tool, something to look cool, so that people think Skull Face is the real deal and buy his nukes. It's impressive looking and not much else. It isn't operational unless Mantis is piloting it.
His real play was to get rid of the English language. Without its 'lingua franca', it's primary language, a new order would have to be brought about, and Skull Face and his nukes would do it. Selling nukes at a super low price would saturate the market so that every small militia would own one, creating a sort of global nuclear deterrence. These nukes would be satellite activated (secretly), so Skull Face had ultimate control over how they were used.
So Metal Gear to sell nukes -> remove English to reset the world power balance -> saturate the world with nukes so that no one entity (like Cipher) can control it, with Skull Face himself having the final say as to how the nukes are used, and thus ultimate power.
His plan failed because he relied on Mantis, whom he seems to have forgotten mercilessly killed his soldiers on weeks before.
