Is it bothering anyone that this game builds up to nothing. I love this game so far my GOTY. I just feel the story leads me nowhere, it sucks because it's safe to say this is the last MGS game. I don't see Konami putting money in these types of games anymore. You see all the things that were cut and I feel robbed. I don't know if I can find closure. I feel that Kojima and Konami took my out to dinner had the best meal of my life, fucked me and left in the middle of the night.

It seems to be missing. People haven't found it yet, at least.

It appears the scene at the beginning of the Red Band trailer, where a prisoner gets water poured on his bagged head and shot in what appears to be Camp Omega, is in neither of the MGSV games either.

Konami says they're making more Metal Gear. Just Kojima isn't.

For real, this time.

When Big Boss is dying for real from FOXDIE at the end of MGS4, he says that Snake erased him twice before, referring to being beaten and presumed dead after MG1 and "killed" in MG2.

Which becomes pretty funny now that Venom Snake is the one who got "erased" one of those times.

There are a few reasons why it's hard to flat out accept it as a time skip even though it has to be unless intrude 313 was preplanned a decade earlier by big boss to get solid snake ready.

1) Venom still had a diamond dogs patch on his shoulder
2) He's still wearing his same combat fatigues
3) It still looks like he's in mother base
4) He still has the shrapnel in his head
5) It looks like it takes place shortly after the quarantine bay incident

and the diamond dogs logo on the door behind him (which becomes a OH one after he smashes the mirror WTF )

Yes, you have to wear the butterfly emblem you get by eliminating a lot of enemies with Quiet

You don't need to get it with Quiet, I think. The emblem is for letting your buddy do the bulk of kills or the AI, I think. I got it on a mission where I didn't use Quiet at all as I recall.

It still kinda works, for all intents and purposes erasing venom is the same as erasing big boss, enough people thought he was big boss that his death actually felt like the death of big boss.

So while it's not literal anymore it still works.

It's likely that Venom is the one that dies in MG1 while Big Boss gets roasted in MG2 but tbh, that seems so weird as well, lol. I'd rather have Big Boss make it out alive in MG1 and Venome roasted in MG2. Then I realized that's not possible considering MGS4 explained MG2 with all that crazy bullshit, lol.

As in you got Codename butterfly afterwards? Because I have the emblem and not the codename and it's the latter I need for hero status. Will need to give this a shot and just tell DDawg to kill everyone as every guide says Quiet specifically,

Ah, maybe I got the code name and not the emblem. You could try it on a quick mission with D-Dog but maybe it actually is Quiet.

What the hell is the name of the Walker Huey is working on in the MotherBase lab? I keep visiting it but its never ready.

The opening cutscene says it's Outer Heaven, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwowXkysk2o&t=0m45s (at 45 seconds if the time stamp link doesn't work).

it was all part of his plan

nobody can ever know about venom snake, he played moustache snake like a damn fiddle

The obvious route is Metal Gear Rising sequels out the ass, since it takes place in the future it runs no risk of ruining the kojima established stuff.

That's an option as well. But I'd love to see more of the core gameplay from MGSV on the fox engine in brand new settings. They could even keep going and make one or two games as Venom between the end of MGSV and MG1. Or DLC I guess. As it stands the real Big Boss is somewhere undercover and Eli has stolen Sahelanthropus with the child soldiers to some unknown location. They could certainly work with the mess that's been left. I've seen the cut mission 51 but since they've already shown it I dunno if they'd go and roll with it.

It's kind of weird that Miller becomes Benedict "Kazuhira" "Adolf" Miller after Skullface died and not before. It's weirder that Venom just seems to go along with it.

or maybe kojima just made the venom snake twist without thinking about the dialogue he had already written too much

The whole tape thing bothered me. In no way was looking at a static screen better than a cutscene or even a traditional codec call. It works really well in some cases, iike Chico's GZ tapes and some of the "secret" recorded conversations, but when it clearly two people talking to each other about current events it could have been done way better.

This is one of my biggest gripes with the game. The tapes shine Zero in a whole different light. If they had made that cutscene with some nice music, it could make for some damn good moments, but no, we were denied :/

I was replaying the truth and there is this one scene that really toys with your perception of control that I thought was super cool.

Early on when you're still crawling and unable to stand and big boss is guiding you around I was still holding down forward because I was trying to move but the camera was positioned in such a way that when big boss started moving first for a second I thought I was controlling him.

Considering how people jump in thinking that they're gonna be playing as big boss but are actually playing as venom snake I thought that was super cool, it has to be intentional too because of the way the camera pans to make it look like control is switching over to him.

Oh that's definitely the case but it doesn't invalidate much of anything.

Goddamn. The story really starts ramping up after you rescue Code Talker, doesn't it? The amount of cutscenes between that and setting off for OKB Zero feels like an older Metal Gear game, and I love it. Too bad Skully will go out with a whimper soon and the "story" will take a nosedive.

The dumbest part is how is that you listen to tapes of conversations that BB actually has himself with people.

He needs a new enemy to keep DD going really. Nothing better than Cipher, which is faceless and pretty much can't be defeated.

It's better to consider MGS3 as the true end to Big Bawse's story as a playable character. The rest is just bullshit.

Man I got spoiled on the twist with the double but I don't think I would've been thrilled with it as a surprise...

I mean it's a cool idea, it would work, but the execution... I mean did Paz ever come back like in the 'coming soon' cutscene? The whole of act two feels unfinished, there were fantastic things in it, like the quarantine, but it never really wraps up. You have volgin in captivity, nothing. Quiet's sacrifice is sorta unsatisfying since they never explained why she didn't just write things, plus losing your GMP and time investment is like a kick in the balls. And the third boy and Eli have a fucking metal gear and thats just left to hang around. Not to mention that it is never stated what triggered Venom's regaining of memory.

Maybe they'll tack on a new set of missions. Maybe I'm sad it's over, or 84 hours playtime in a week has put too much metal gear on my brain, but I just feel a little sour right now.

I need to know what happened to this game.
Might be the Konami stuff (which I kind of believe is Kojimas own fault now) or just a guy whose really lost his touch (kind of apparent since MGS3) but good lord I need answers.

Works for me, that way Solid Snake keeps being the main focus, being playable in 2 and a half out of the Solid games.

You can listen to tapes while playing the game, managing mother base, etc. It is not a static screen unless you choose for it to be that way.

I listen to all the tapes while I do side-ops. I like the feature instead of the codec.

I don't know. At some point it was becoming apparent that Kojima wouldn't cater to the idea of leading directly into Metal Gear, at least definitely not the way most people would hope. Partly because that might be a little too pandering (hard to claim that would be possible after the monstrosity that MGS4 was), partly because of the development and that's just not Kojima's style.

Wouldn't you agreeeeeeee

I wish it was Venom Big Boss at the end of 4 instead of actual Big Boss. V kind of ruins the stinger of actual Big Boss appearing and killing Zero since we find out in V that Zero didn't even do the AI shit with the Patriots.

Big Boss killed Zero to free him of his pitiful state, not as revenge for The Patriots, I though that that was pretty obvious.

He does what he wants. In some ways, it's admirable. It's what sets him apart.
In other ways, it's uuuuggghhhh
