I dunno about anyone else, but personally I really miss the Codec, the cassettes just didn't do it for me at all. The supposed advantage of being able to listen to them while doing other things only works in theory. In reality, if you play them on a mission you'll frequently get interrupted by radio chatter. Even if you aren't getting interrupted every five seconds they still take your focus off of what you're doing, leading to sloppy play. Also the Codec system allows for more immediacy, and a better conversation flow.

What I'm trying figure out is how you got big ass Robots, but we still using Cassette Tapes.

Well Sahalanthropus is a big farce it only works because Mantis is manipulating it through his telekinesis.

What I'm trying to figure out is how Psycho Mantis went from being this powerful to only being able to read your controller inputs and memory card in MGS1.

It's better to consider MGS3 as the true end to Big Bawse's story as a playable character. The rest is just bullshit.
I really think people should revisit Portable Ops. It's rough to play, and probably harder to play today consider all the advances we've had since it came out, but it's the last Metal Gear game that REALLY felt like the Metal Gear of old.

I know it gets a lot of hate, but I really never understood that hate. Just because Kojima doesn't play it up doesn't mean you shouldn't check it out.

I asked earlier and got no reply but between the cut missions, scenes, items, etc did they end up scrapping the platform exclusive cardboard boxes? I want my ps4 box on my head.

MGS1 makes completely no sense if you consider MGS5 canon, like why is Revolver Ocelot working for Liquid and why didn't Liquid bust a cap in his ass the moment he saw him. Or how Liquid managed to be commander of FOXHOUND prior to MGS1 after all the shit he did against Cipher and Big Boss.

Portable Ops has the Sokolov and Grey Fox retcon, just as bad as the rest.

I dunno man, breaking the fourth wall into another plane of existence is pretty powerful.

That game introduced Major Zero and Ocelot as founders of the Patriots. Ewwww.

And that's just a very tiny part of the entire game.

And again, it's just not as ridiculous as everyone makes it out.

Just like the weird Hayter-dislike that's come in the past few years. It's so weird to watch gaming culture hold Hayter up as a messiah of voice acting, then once someone in power says otherwise, the backpedaling happens.

I'm happy I played Portable Ops when it came out and formed my own opinion on it years ago.

Right! Ocelot treated this kid like shit and when did BB call Liquid useless and everything else he was saying in MGS1.

This isn't true. Maybe for some, sure but people have been complaining about Hayter for much longer than a few years. It's probably been going on for more than ten years, tbh.

honestly it's pretty remarkable how lifelike they made Quiet's face. It looks exactly like Joosten without having any of the uncanny valley creepiness. I can't think of many better examples, with the possible exception of Kevin Spacey in Advanced Warfare

it's a shame that Fox Engine is now locked up at a company that won't put it to good use.

Even as he's being kicked off Motherbase in a life raft, Huey still tries to play the victim. What an absolute piece of shit.

Show me this. Seriously. Show me the qualitative or quantitative data that shows that this discourse was more than a blimp on the internet radar of conversations. I'm not saying it didn't exist, but that discourse must've been minuscule compared to what it is now. I rarely saw it in the early 2000s.

Oh god you're right, I bet he could have gotten the rail gun to fire even though it was incomplete.

The very very very end dialogue between ocelot and kaz implies that each one will end up working with a different son of the boss, but like uh why would liquid ever wanna work with ocelot, unless of course something happens to ocelot and he ends up becoming liquid's mentor?

Yeah, it's good. It's got all of the subtle face quivers and everything.

I have already completed mission 46
But I still have Quiet

So if I take off the butterfly emblem or if she goes to the sickbay she will leave ?

What the fuck?! I thought you had to do Side Op #150 and Mission 45 to get the last mission in the hospital? I just kicked Huey off Motherbase and Mission 46 has unlocked. I don't have Mission 45 and I don't have my bond with Quiet at full. Did anyone else have this happen?

You don't. I deliberately dodged the Side op 150 bullet and did everything else there is to do. Thinking of doing 45, but I'd rather wait for an option to get Quiet back. Even though I used her less and less over the course of the game.

Full quiet Bond is the requirement for 45 and you can complete those two in any order.

Ocelot is working for Liquid in MGS1 under orders from Solidus. He egged him on to start the rebellion.

Lol. You want me to go back ten years and pick apart everything I ever I read that complained about Hayters voice acting? Ok. While I do that, Im going to need to see your proof that gaming culture held him up as the "messiah of voice acting". We'll meet back here in a few days.

Hayters voice work has been a topic of discussion since MGS3. Its picked up over the years as Hayters voice work arguably worsened and, now that hes been replaced, youre seeing an awful lot of talk about it. Thats all it is.

I just finished chapter 1. The fight against Sandy was pretty fun, I thought I did pretty well, but only got an A. Guess I shouldn't be hit by the groundspikes so much.

But yes, the infamous car ride scene and WHOOOOOO? The car ride was incredible lame. I mean, the idea to drive the whole way was cool, but my god, I could've read on NeoGAF the whole time there was nothing for the eye. It would've been cool if XOF got would've gotten the drop on Venom during the Helipad scene and drugged him lightly. Not enought to completely knock him out, but enough to have him no danger for Skullface. Then they could've taken him and sat him into the car and while the car drives and Skullface monologes, they could've shown action on the sides of the streets. Russians who succumb to the parasites, some that try with little power left to attack the XOF forces and getting slaughered. They could've also taken his weapons. I get that SF didn't want him dead and had him clearly outgunned, but take his weapons goddamnit. Mission 31 could've started with Snake being "naked", but getting - only for this mission - free supply drops of all kinds from the battle ready Diamond Dogs forces.

I would've also appreciated if SF would've had SOME stats when scanned. Thus I have to assume that the scanner gets all information from the skin.

I'm officially retiring my post-Quiet save. I've set the chopper music to Quiet's theme. V's current outfit is his sneaking suit as it's the darkest thing he owns. I visited her cell one last time hoping to the heavens that Quiet was still there, but no matter how much I pressed my R&D team, my NVG's just couldn't find her between the bars anymore.

She's gone. Lost. Alone, so that we may live. So that the world may live. Like her last months, her legacy will remain what it is. Silence. Slinking away into the recesses of Diamond Dogs memory until it is no longer a legend, but a myth.

The recruits may forget with time, but I won't let them. No matter how hard I try, her loss won't stop hurting. She is my phantom pain, and there's no parasite, no prosthetic, nor science that will let me forget that. It is not through language that she will continue to exist, but in memory.

You need to do that side-op bud. Lol... that blue icon ruins the whole thing you're going for.

My idiocy ran deep, and when I was replaying the hospital scene, I made myself believe that the grunts of Venom getting hit and running into things sounded just like Hayter in preparation for a reveal.

And now my last shred of belief is that there were plans on the table for ten year old Solid to show up and Hayter to somehow suck up some helium and give him a handful of lines, but that just goes to show how shoe-horned in Hayter's involvement with the story would be.

What pisses me off is that in Kojimas goodbye video --- He talked with Baker... Don't get me wrong Baker's not bad, but that man is a DIVA! He acts so hoity and hot... and he's a giant narcissistic douche... he got lucky in his career in VA because he was originally the lead singer for Trip Fontaine who had a one hit wonder, and they were going for like a "nickleback/nirvana" thing... needless to say he was an idiot then too. He's even tried making an album starring just himself recently because that's what he wants... music fame, not VA fame lol. Again he's not a complete ass, but he a pretty ditsy, and airheaded drama queen.

Anyways Baker gets to be in the "goodbye MGS" video they made, and he's like "Thanks for letting me known for this legendary series!" even though Hayter has been in EVERY SINGLE MGS title until this one (and GZ) and Bakers been in this one, voicing Ocelot in a bored John Wayne impression... Like Hayter isn't iconicized as the voice of Snake... the titular character of the series.

-- Hey Baker! You're not that awesome okay... you do good work when you need to be in some dramatic TV acting type stuff... You did a decent joker (assuming you just liked the joker, and that's why you tried so hard) and Joel from Last of Us wasn't awful... Hell I love you as Rhys in Tales from the Borderlands... but you are not the end all be all of VA, you're a pretty boy and a name... but that's it... so was Nolan North, you 're replaceable.

What do the other boxes do you unlock from getting all shipping spots? I haven't been able to find it. I feel like they must be special. Are they just boxes that look different?

I can only assume that Troy Baker ran over your dog or something to write out a post this hateful for someone who does a shit ton of VO work and dabbles in a solo music thing.

Was he this bad in peace walker, I can't remember.

Honestly one of the main things I took from the plot is that I'm glad Otacon slept with his wife. Who would even marry him by the way? And why the hell did strangelove sleep with him?

While I don't agree with his Baker rant, I do agree with the fact that the "goodbye video" needed to have the original cast in it. Hayter, Randolph, Paul Eiding, Debbie Mae West, Cam Clarke, Greg Eagles, Kim Mai Guest, John Cygan.... At the very least the people who have been there from the beginning.

Baker means nothing to the Metal Gear fans.

Seriously? It's not hard to find video gaming culture holding him up in the past. Literally seconds of google searching gets you articles.

And on and on. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but the popular, majority idea was that Hayter was loved and appreciated.

But seriously, I think it would be super interesting to dig up old conversations from 2001-2009 where people were hating on Hayter. I'm not challenging that to prove myself right, I'm challenging someone to dig that up because I'm genuinely interested in how people might've talked about that idea back then.

Portable Ops has the Sokolov and Grey Fox retcon, just as bad as the rest.

PooPs has the biggest retcon of all, you could say it's the one that irrevocably ruined the series canon: making Major Zero the big bad and by extension all of the MGS3 crew "The Patriots."

But wasn't the video specifically about TPP?

They have Hayter's several lines in the interview. I have the CE and hearing his lines were an acknowledgement by Konami and Kojima that he IS Snake.

Sutherland is just a fake and player's Snake and has no contribution towards MGS as a whole. Wonderful actor but horribly under utilized in TPP.

Pretty much this imo.

I didn't like Baker's Ocelot, but his script was also the friendly, forgiving guy that only aided the player and didn't kill or double cross.

Did I miss something or is the beginning form the nuclear trailer where blood covered Big Boss walks by the burned corpses and the vulture not in the game?
