Yeah but nobody worked it out!
What? A lot of us guessed it. Hell I got called an idiot for suggesting and theorising it in the Community thread.
I literally called the body double theory to hide from Cipher and XOF back in March, there was WAY to much evidence. I couldn't comprehend in my mind that a lot of others didn't see it through the trailers.
When I suggested that it would be to hide from Cipher whilst Big Boss builds OH I was told it'd be a twist for twists sake and it would be unlikely.

Definitely. Especially as they mention why Kaz doesn't want a prosthetic. Ocelot says they offered to make him some but he refused, wanting to carry the pain with him.

Yes. He's blind.

Codetalker is blind too so has milky eyes. Snake is blind in one eye and it is milky. Quiet and Skull Face have the parasites and yet have normal eyes.

but like...he's definitely not blind. He uses his eyes.

McDonalds Miller's Maxi Bun Burger subplot is the best piece of narrative in this game. (Or any game really)
Fuck I just realised. McDonald Miller had a burger shop.
MCDONALD's was created by Miller! Lmao Kojima.

Seriously, my favourite tapes in the game and I didn't even make the connection.

Well it is a twist for twist's sake and we trusted Kojima more back then.

*shrug* Does he? Could guess. Could have very partial sight. Could be parasites. Could be voodoo. Could be Shamanism. Could be Psychic force. Could be Daredevil world on fire vision. Could be cut content. Could be Kojima Forgot. Could be DBZ power level sense. Could be the game is soooo incomplete and threads are dropped left and right that no answer will ever be correct.

I'm rewatching MGS4 cutscenes and while it's bloated, it does have a sense of finality and scale that is completely missing from MGS5.

Probably don't get an interpreter for kikongo.

Hmm doesn't really count though, that's for MGO ;P

Huh, that's weird.

Anyway, had to do something with all of my rage against this game:

Lol, true, they all told me I was crazy for suggesting such a thing, that it's never happen and Kojima wouldn't do another MGS2 type twist.

Well who's laughing now :P
serioulsy though, even though I predicted it months and months ago, even I didn't think he'd do it again. :(

I was hoping for Naomi and Gray Fox to make an appearance, since Big Boss met and helped them in the 80's and not to mention Sniper Wolf.

I didn't like this ending at all... I guess I was really hoping for a timeskip, wherein you inevitably get your ass handed to you by none other than Solid Snake in a more realized version of OH from MSX (and not necessarily the entirety of OH).

Besides, we've never played as the older version of Big Boss.
The game just feels like a lost opportunity in so many ways - Guess I was hoping for more fan service...

The "Intruder on MB" episode felt like the perfect build up for that kind of "secret" episode.

The twist in MGSV feels like it's only reason for being there is that Kojima felt like he had to have a twist. It of course is a big deal in ''retcon/overall lore sense'' but for MGSV plot in a vaccuum it really doesn't matter much at all. MGS2 twists were actually the whole point of the narrative.

I don't hate the twist in V nor do I think it's good. It's just there. I'm getting kinda tired on the whole Shamalayan writing in fiction unless it truly serves a purpose. The final scene with Quiet was more powerful ''ending'' imo.

This made me lol more than it should have. Seriously though there's loads of evidence to suggest that it was gonna be a reverse bait and switch.

As in the medic is still the medic but Zero tricks Big Boss into beleive get he's the medic to stop him from going insane and wanting revenge. Instead we got a half baked bait and switch where Konami said "nope, stitch together what you've done and call it a day"

Now all we have is Ishmael who still has the face of the medic, short hair, no beard and all. While some guy on a bike who miraculously grew a beard and hair within 3 hours drives of and we're lead to beleive the bullshit.

Yeah. I think that is what upsets me the most. I wanted more fanservice stuff. I wanted to see Zero. I wanted to see EVA. I wanted to see Gray Fox. I wanted to see Ocelot on the field and kill a bunch of dudes with his revolver. I wanted to see Solid Snake. I wanted a surprise Hayter appearance.

I wanted a lot of things that just never came to fruition.

if we're talking good music tracks in mgsv, the music when eli gets off the chopper at mother base is pretty good. there's a really neat little sting that i wish was the mother base theme.

the XOF riff from ground zeroes is great too. shame we never heard it in TPP. i'm pretty amazed how ludo did that too. smacking a banana on an electric guitar. pretty sure he's the singer in the 'a phantom pain' track too.

There was a really good track after you get out of the hospital during the Ocelot introduction but the soundtrack is dead on its feet afterwards. Just completely lifeless.

Same.

Like an asshole I actually expected to play as Solid Snake at the end in a quasi Metal Gear remake. Expectations were WAY too high on my part :(

Another "as the credits rolled" thought. Listen to this for maximum effect.

What the fuck is the deal with Major Zero?

This dude went from a seemingly inconspicuous (dare I say forgettable) 1960s version of Colonel Campbell in MGS3 to HISTORY'S GREATEST MONSTER in MGS4. "Holy fuck", I thought, as Big Boss unplugged his life support at the end of 4, "What the hell is up with this dude? I'd really like to know how this innocent dude who broke Snake's balls in the 60s for not liking James Bond became this tyrant of sorts and founder of the fucking Patriots. Too bad this is the last Metal Gear, cause there's lots of blanks to be filled in."

And then Peace Walker got announced. Well, shit, it's about Big Boss after the events of MGS3. Surely they'll go into Zero's backstory.

But... they kinda didn't. That story took place after Boss and Zero's falling out. After the Patriots were formed. After Les Enfants Terribles. Ok? There's a lot of talk about Zero and what he/Cipher is up to, but we don't actually see the dude. There is no communication between him and Boss... at all.

Then V gets announced. It's a chronological sequel to Peace Walker. Big Boss all up in this bitch. SURELY this time we'll see some of Zero, I thought. How did this dude become worse than Hitler?

But... fucking nothing again! Tons of talk about Cipher and Zero via tapes, of course, but I was baffled watching those credits realizing that Zero was never to be seen in the entire game. I figure the logic behind this is that you don't need to see him, and all of the info gets across via text/dialogue. Kojima obviously wanted to keep the character all secretive and unseen, but I'm not sure if I like that. Instead we just get Ocelot and Miller telling me shit. Cipher this, Major Zero that, on and on...

But yeah, we don't see history's greatest monster basically at all. I'm pretty sure the only time he's animated in the entire fucking saga is at the end of MGS3 for like 5 seconds when Snake gets his title of Big Boss. I find it pretty hard to visualize his entire, crazy, important, series spanning arc from text and dialogue, honestly >_<

After listening to the truth tapes again, i kinda like how everything was fleshed out. Zero was not the biggest enemy we thought from MGS4. The AI patriot system wasn't supposed to be a bad thing at first. It just turned into it's own thing that no one can control anymore. Until the grand MGS4 plot at least. Zero loved BB and was a vegetable before the system even took full control. In PW and MGSV we are meant to think Cipher is the bad guy when all he really wanted was his best friend back.

It's a cool story. Unfortunately it just makes me wish the original patriots had it's own story to flesh out the characters. Would love more digital comics fleshing out more stories here and there. But i guess the dream is dead.

Really? Amazing. Have you got links to those posts? Would be quite fun to read them now that we know.

i wouldn't say lifeless, just a shift towards more ambient music. kinda like what films have been doing.

sins of the father is still fucking amazing though.

MGS2: Legends are just legends. Live your own life; you aren't an action game hero just because you play one in a video game. You're not Solid Snake.

MGSV: You contributed to Big Boss's legend by playing as him in a video game. So you're Big Boss.

It wouldn't be a Big Boss game if he didn't do the most obviously previously alluded to events off screen, though

Final message: You're not a clone?

I'd like to note that I think it was MG2 that involved nuclear algae or something as a part of its plot so parasites isn't exactly uncharted territory for the series, lol. They just crank it up to stupid levels but the series has been known for "what!?" for ages.

I know Kojima has largely fallen out of the individual person boss battle game but kinda annoyed XOF wasn't actually, like, an elite boss unit or something. Even the Skulls weren't actually XOF, just Skully's personal parasite unit.

Just finished Mission 46... I actually didn't mind the twist that much, I just really wish the game was 'finished' and we were able to see Chapter 2 fleshed out more (read: finished) and some kind of formation of transition to actual Big Boss and forming Outer Heaven. Maybe a reverse MGS2 experience where we're playing as the fake all that time, then the current ending happens, and then we're actually BB and get into forming OH. As it stands, it feels like they were told they had to finish the game on X date, and then just started slashing content and story until they made the deadline.

At least the gameplay was sublime. :/

Did anyone else think that the children had stolen diamonds that were made from DD soldier ashes and that's why Snake fired into the cell after the E3 2014 trailer?.

I just thought that he was hired in a mission to kill some prisoners or something, and being the evil demon mercenary that he was supposed to be come, he did it without any remorse.

Of course we got jack shit of such "descent". When I watched that scene during my playthrough, I was like: "Now I know he is not going to do it. He will disappoint".

And he just went and shot a bucket.

It disappointed me even harder.

Don't worry. When Kojima was asked why GZ was titled "Ground Zeroes", he said "Because there is more than one.". From FOX, two phantoms were born right? It's not over yet! :_)

:_(

That might be the most disappointing part of the game. There was one good boss fight. One. And it wasn't even well designed or anything, it just wasn't awful.

I actually failed that mission by leaving the mission area. It was a total accident I was sprinting and before I knew it I failed the mission lol

So lame

I also like how I built up a base of 300+ men and the only thing they could do to help in that mission was send a helicopter.

I mean I understand why they wouldn't come on sneaking missions but THAT mission should have theoretically had all the fire power I'd built up to that point going at the Metal Gear.
