So finished it.

It's awful. The journey and the actual reveal. Having to replay everything twice sure as hell didn't help the game's cause. Learning about the epic part 2 that we never got didn't help either, but I stayed open minded till the end.

I can only suspend disbelief for so long, I can tolerate bionic arms, and mecha robots. I can tolerate genetic experiments, cloning.

But perfect "body doubles" through surgery that changes skin tone, hair, eye color, VOICE, etc...

Yeah no. At this point anything is possible just because they decide it can be, it's the worst form of deus ex machina.

And how stupid is Big boss's track record at cheating deaths now, it's really hard to take it seriously. And I know it's a game, and it's not meant to be taken seriously, but at the same time this game lacked a clear sense of humor the others usually had. It's not completely gone but it's definitely much more subtle and "diluted".

So I i just finished it, I'm sure I will grow to like it better with time maybe.

But it feels like a gigantic waste.

So much for the game that was supposed to show Big Boss's descent into hell. Had 10 seconds of screentime GG. =(
 
My thoughts were best MGS gameplay wise, but not story for me. I didn't see the twist coming, I'll be honest, even although there is plenty of clues.... Like the Kotaku post by Jason though it actually left me feeling quite sad the last MGS game by Kojima doesn't actually have us playing as Boss lol. Kojima trolling. Effective but to pull it off it gave us a silent main character, hardly any decent cutscenes and a story told via fucking cassette tapes. Not worth it IMO, even if it does fill in story blanks. Didn't like Keifer either, but that decision makes sense given we don't even play as Boss... (outside of GZ, but using Hayter there, Keifer for TPP would have made the twist even obvious to me).

I'm also salty at cut content, clearly the game was rushed out by Konami.

So in terms of a MGS game, 1, 2, 3, 4 > 5 for me (that's not in order of my favourites, just to illustrate I prefer every other mainline MGS over it). In terms of gameplay 5 >>>>>>>> everything else.
 
Credits rolling post-Truth and it was exactly what I thought it was the moment they did the name/face thing at the beginning. I would have been more shocked if the twist was you actually were Big Boss the whole time, since I thought they were being that blatant about it. Though I didn't make the connection with Eli's DNA test until my mind was wandering as I was resenting the game for making me crawl through the entire prologue again for like (up until the end) less than one minute of new information. I was also hoping they're be some David Hayter Snake at the end so the actor change would make more sense, but I guess that beef was real.

I have a friend who was tossing between it being a painfully predictable ruse because Kojima stinks at writing twists, or giving Kojima the credit of the doubt that it couldn't possibly be that obvious and it's a double ruse.

Kojima has plenty of great ideas that are distinctly his identity. But I mean after MGS4 and PW people really should have been prepared for a combination of predictable and stupid.

Real big boss is in Ground Zeroes, how in hell would having Hayter make any sense ?

It makes virtually no sense that fake big boss and real big boss have the same voice.

Would have been smarter to keep Hayter for Ground Zeroes, or call that dude from MGS 4.

As I said above even although a lot of people seen the twist coming, that would just have made it too obvious.

I figured that was more because of Big Medic having the whole Ahab/Ishmael thing fresh in memory and he was feeding off of his desires to get away.
 
Ahab/Ishmael/Whale/Pequod are all references to Moby Dick. Which means Kojima probably read it and decided to put it in because he liked it and that's what he does.
 
So is there any real evidence of this update? The stuff on reddit is pretty weak to me. Now datamined American/Russian area etc would be a lot more interesting but ive seen none so far.

I don't want to read in here, but I've seen on /V/ that there is some ARG or something up at the ingsoc.org website and with 9/11. Is this anything legit? Please answer me via PM if possible.

Or does it? In the song 1984 by Bowie that Kojima posted on twitter the lyrics go "I'm looking for a vehicle, I'm looking for a ride". That track was 9/11 and todays date is 9/11. Also Big Boss took off on a bike (ride). Its all coming true.
Also there are a lot of conspiracy theories about 9/11 so what could be more perfect in the mind of Kojima than make it all a big conspiracy!
