That could still be the case, he is just a kid here so he gets lost in people's rage more easily. Also he didn't train with the KGB yet.
Alright, fair enough, I'll buy the "just a kid" thing here.

The problem with the twist is that you could smell it from miles away. If you watched the trailers and followed the coverage leading up to the release, even easier. And yet the game tries to dangle question in front of use where the answer is so clear. You know what might have made the twist work better? if it was in the middle of the game or something. The reason you're left feeling sort of...empty is because venom never gets a chance to establish himself as a character. In the game, everything you do, you think you're big boss. but then you're told to kind of go back and retroactively attribute all of that to venom snake.
The game never gives your brain a chance to link the character you play as to venom snake, you know what i mean? Give the twist away in the middle, or 75% through, and then let you play the rest of the game knowing you're venom.
It might not work because it goes against the message of "oh we're both big boss." but that's nearly impossible to buy into anyway.
How hard was it to just have a post-traumatic and injured Big Boss with memory loss as Venom Snake? A man with a fractured mind whose only motivation is the fleeting memory of his men being slaughtered making him hellbent on revenge is the perfect foundation for "becoming a demon." By the time he regained his memories there'd be no going back because his experiences during the game, things he wouldn't normally do, would've fundamentally changed his worldview and altered him as a person.
But no, magic. The only "demon" in the game is Huey and that whole plot point is fucking comical. Miller is a hard-ass but not a demon. Venom Snake is Christ.
So does the subtitle of Ocelot "A rival living a lie" refer to him knowing that Boss is Venom. I have no idea what other lies he is living in.
Also that other tape between Skullface and Code talker was amazing. How was that not a cutscene... KOJIMAAA

I can explain it better. You never do anything knowing that you're venom snake, so it's hard to imagine being venom snake establishing the legend of big boss. If you play through a portion of the game thinking to yourself "I am venom snake, but I am also big boss" i think it works a lot better.
I mean there's no way the person who leaked this could know some of the actual mission names, then just claim they made it up. So I'm gonna choose to look at this as the game was no where near completion, Kojima was fired and whatever was finished was pushed out. I thought getting a butchered Chapter 2 and a cut Chapter 3 was bad, but if it was 5 Chapters it could mean the actual main theme/purpose of the games story was never revealed. Which is an even worse way to look at all of this.

crazy that he actually goes back to the KGB/russians, though. Would love to know how Mantis goes from flying off into the sunset with eli in (admittedly cut) episode 51 to the boss we see in MGS1.
It's always been strange how much of an affinity Kojima has for Mantis, he shows up in a lot of games. He's probably the most iconic boss from MGS1, which I guess is why.
It's implied that Eli is only more suitable than Skullface for Mantis because he is a child. I guess his connection to Eli weakend at some point when Eli grew older and maybe even less angry and he connected to other people until he arrived at the KGB. Or maybe he evolved an own personality and didn't need to stay with anyone anymore.crazy that he actually goes back to the KGB/russians, though. As far as I know, the community was able to debunk that list entirely. Stuff from Chapters 1 and 2 were pulled from gameplay videos, while some of the later ones were stolen from leaked achievement lists. The rest of it was 100% made up by a reddit user.
Oh, I watched 0 videos on this game before it came out. Didn't realize that much was revealed, nvm then. It's completely made up. The only reason those missions are in there is because they're listed in the achievements that leaked ages ago.

Psycho Mantis is probably the most powerful human in the MGS canon.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't ruin Mantis. In fact, they did a pretty good job with him and Eli, I thought. Which is why I'm pissed Mission 51 was cut. Liquid and Mantis are a couple of my favourite characters in the series...of all the things they cut it had to be that? Pisses me off.
Putting it in the into or very early would have been best.
Since we're ripping off MGS 2 might as well go all the way.
Then, just like 2, the rest of the game can expand on the twist and it's thematic purpose. Instead of cramming all that into one bit at the end.

Say Hello to Solid Plot Armor SnakeHe:

-can fly
-controls Metal Gear flawlessly with his mind
-can turn invisible at will
-can teleport
-can move through solid matter
The idea that any character or even army in MGS can beat him suddenly becomes ridiculous.

I love how every little thing wrong with this game goes straight fuck you to Kojima personally but I guess he had it coming :lol
he was pretty normal in MGS1 and a walking plot device that can do anything in V.
So did the reviewers finish the game before they released their score?
Another head scratcher, why did the Patriot AIs trust Ocelot if him and Zero had already fallen out before their creation?
Most of the reviewers don't really care about the story of MGS. IGN even pointed out that the story was lackluster in their 10/10 review.

This game is definitely still a 10/10 though. There's something to be said about fan disappointments as opposed to sheer scale and polish and mechanics. Most of the reviewers don't really care about the story of MGS. IGN even pointed out that the story was lackluster in their 10/10 review.

Such a lust for revenge....
Honestly, the story could have revolved around cutscenes of D Horse taking shits on members of my own family as a random personal attack against me and it'd still be 10/10 for me because playing it feels so damn good.
