What if you enjoyed the game but just got bored with the skim milk story after the first month and the first two expansions seemed way over-priced and haven't played since vanilla?

The new quest system does a much better job of stitching to story together. Honestly, the vanilla story was there and good, just a bit incoherent.

TTK does a even better job now in that system. The Taken story line is grouped in two quests and the Raid as the conclusion and is very engaging. Then there 2 or 3 B plots as well, equally as well done.

I'm really impressed with how they put it all together.

My thoughts on the exploit and those coins..


Don't nerf them, all this exploit showed is I get an exotic every 15 coins

If I was doing this regular, one coin per boss, I would probably never gotten an exotic.


If anything, they should trigger it to only work on enemies that have X amount of health and up.

I think it pips the VoG for my favourite raid and the hardest thing I've done in a game. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

I just got the Stag and Jade Rabbit. The Stag doesn't seem too special unless i'm missing something. Jade Rabbit seems pretty good and i've heard good things about the Zhalo.

Zhalo is boss. One of the only primaries with an elemental damage type. Chain lighting pops up super often and wipes through trash.

So what's the best place/strategy to farming the exotics with the 3 of coins

Scourge of Winter on easy mode. Pop 3oC, weaken boss, Rush up to him, kill him with a rocket / die. If done right, you and the boss die at the same time and you'll just respawn at the checkpoint. Do this for as long as you have coins.

You should be getting an exotic Engram every 4-6 kills approximately

The Taken enemies are crazy. I was doing the first Earth Strike and right at the start was a giant, almost boss style Taken enemy that others were fighting. Super tough, and I still had to do the strike after. Got some item thing. Pretty good way to introduce what the Taken are like to use newbie vanilla players. Is it just Earth they currently affect?

I played the base game (I purchased the first Collector's Edition based on how much I like Halo) to lvl 20 finished the story missions and didn't go back to even touch the DLC packs (even though I owned them since the CE came with the season pass). I thought the game felt like a shell. Good shooting mechanics and amazing art but nothing else. Not enough story.

Fast forward to last weekend and the hype train talking about how Taken King would be Destiny's Reaper of Souls expansion got the best of me so I preordered the expansion updated my game and started a new character at lvl 1. Played through all the story missions including DLC1 and 2. The new quest system keeping things ordered and Nolanbot not sounding like he phoned it in helped but still wasn't amazing.

Then I started playing the Taken King content and wow the story content is a lot more interesting now. Its not Citizen Kane but you would be shocked at how a bit of VO and text can improve things not to mention all the tweaks to end game stuff and gameplay. Its not perfect but its a far far better game now. It really is Destiny: Reaper of Souls.

Btw this must be Nathan Fillion's year. Destiny, Halo, and new season of Castle? Madness!

Been back for 2 days now, can you no longer exchange materials (like Spinmetal) for reputation? Only see dismantle items/motes/ammo as options.

That is gone, you will need to go and farm them up yourself now.

I didn't have a mountain of coins to spend since I'm kind of new didn't play a ton pre Taken King but I think I spent 30 or so coins on them and I ended up with exotic hand cannon, fusion rifle, sniper rifle, hunter gloves (crap I'm a titan!), and armor. For me it was well worth it and boosted my light level a bit even though I can only equip one. At the end of the day though its RNG. I think someone said it boosts drop rate to 30%? Thanks for the summary! Yeah, vanilla felt like a shell but it sounds like they filled the shell with some pretty good stuff.

Still on the fence though. I'll wait and see what people say in a couple weeks.

This is pretty much how Destiny has happened for me word for word haha. Got the limited edition played with friends and stopped a couple months in. Didn't play DLC and then 2 weeks ago gave in and have loved every minute of it.

Well, I just finished the main campaign and have been moving on to the first two dlc and strikes. I really liked the first House of Wolves quest. It had some much needed variety that I haven't really seen in the main story yet. Vehicular combat and that new scorch cannon thing is fun to use. Hope it keeps the momentum up, I'm really having fun with this game!

Use them all now, just remember to bring some heavy ammo synth.

And clear out the enemies in the boss room before killing him and yourself, so you don't use more heavy ammo synth than you need to.

Yeah I saw posted somewhere that most folks were having the best luck just using one at a time so thats what I did. Can't say if there's a more optimal way or not though.
