If these images are from consoles is it possible the actual console screenshot feature is responsible for the discrepancies between promotional material and well this?
No. Even if you completely disregard IQ, there is tons of stuff (distant shadows, AO, clutter, vegatation) simply missing entirely from these new shots:

PS4-Version (?)

The blurry IQ is the least of their problems.

I'm actually worried about the rpg and story of the game more than the graphics. I wish we shit talk the choice of including VA and the horrible dialogue options than the graphics but I'm aware I'm in the minority in this one.
Well, the thread is about screenshots. (Also, everyone knows Bethesda's writing sucks ;))

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
yeah really how do you know that?
care to compare?
PLEASE?!?!

ai- persistent in both. most likely more complex in mgs, unlike fallout where everything either rams their head/weapon into you or shoots at you .
day/night cycle- both
weather changes- mgs does it, havent been seen in fallout 4 yet i think
hubs - both have it
friendly ai - highly unlikely to be superior to mgs

boring akaik has nothing to do with tech.only opinion.

care to name a few of those million things?
Just the sheer number of objects that the player can pick up and throw for one. MGS can't compare in that regard. The fact that the world is undoubtedly more populated since at most you'd see a truck, or two guards walking around outside of bases in MGSV, tracking data like store vendors, way more asset variety etc etc.

MGSV being bad open world while you champion the AC series.
I know i've found London, (and pretty much any other AC game) to way more atmospheric and believable than my time with MGSV. But this thread isn't about AC, I just find "MGSV looks betta and it's running at 60fps" to be a ridiculous argument since it does so by not doing that much with it's world to begin with. I man it's not even just taking stuff away, the fact that you can add a ton of stuff in a multitude of areas which attracts npcs overtime as well makes it a more complex game world.

Is the PC version really going to be that much better pre mods?

The reason i ask is cause those mods take a while usually and I dont want to upgrade my computer to wait around for months on mods.

You can at least increase draw/shadow distance on PC, so that should help.

WTF guys

Didnt we put the graphics dsicussions to rest months ago?

Why havent you all reached the ACCEPTANCE phase yet

You all know you are going to buy and play it anyways

I just think sincerely expecting any improvements in how they do interfaces after nearly a decade of consistent complaints strikes me as hopelessly naive at this point.

Perhaps. The problem here is, instead of just being consistently bad, they seem to be getting worse. And since I buy these games and pay for them (because, despite all the issues, I enjoy them), complaining about their shitty aspects is...good.

Yea, and that's exactly what they made here. A clear sacrifice to get the game running on consoles since it likely has to make a ton of drawcalls for the tons of little objects that the player can interact with on top of running a ton of new tech.

In those distance shots, do you see any of these interactable objects in sight?

Nope. They have long been culled from view. They're not wasting draw calls on that stuff.

What kills me the most about this, is my Graphics Card isn't good enough for this game to get it on PC instead. My 670 is so tired...

But that complaining strategy doesn't seem to be super successful for you given the results.

PC > console every time besides arkham knight.

Ughh, that's pretty fucking embarrassing for a 2015 big budget AAA title.

You really would refer to Bethesda programmers and artists as competent??

To be fair, Morrowind and Oblivion were both pretty gorgeous for their time, especially as open world games. Even Skyrim was fairly impressive for 2011. Fallout 3 was always the ugly duckling of the bunch.

The fact that this game looks like a step down from Skyrim is worrisome. The lack of shadows, even on objects and creatures right next to the player, seems unintentional. There's just no way Bethesda would hamstring the graphics that much.

This is just another incrementally improved gamebryo engine, like Skyrim was, isn't it.

Well at least the consoles have plenty of RAM this time around, so we should not get another repeat of the PS3 issues we had with this engine the last time around.

Well things like Reshade/Sweetfx will be there on day one. The advanced ENB stuff will probably take some time though and also tweaking the settings in the game files should be pretty straightforward as well.

New screenshots, new discussion.

When playing Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim, I couldn't wait for Bethesda to harness the power of a new generation and a new engine for future games.

But holy shit the visuals are embarrassingly bad, definitely the worst looking AAA game so far.

Seems like this game has come up so fast. Can't believe it's releasing in weeks.

Like a poster above said, I'm more concerned about story/mechanics and overrall gameplay than graphics.

Whatever transpires, I'm avoiding this like the plague for the first few months. Once a lot of the inevitable bugs are ironed out, I'll pick this up, hopefully with mods.

According to someone on Reddit PS4 screenshots don't capture any post-processing effects. Is that even possible? it would make sense, cause they did talk about these effects and even showed them.

What you see is what you get.

To expand on that: It is possible, because the developer can hook into the screenshot function so they could theoretically disable all kinds of effects for the frame that is being captured.

If you need to believe then you can opt for that. I do not recommend this.

Of course it's good enough for Fallout 4. It surpasses the minimum requirements and we've seen how a 750 Ti can go toe to toe, at the very least, with a PS4. You 670 should be able to perform even better than that card so only an Arkham Knight situation will make your card inadequate for Fallout 4.

These look legitimately hilarious. Pretty sad looking game after The Witcher 3.

A game that for all it's pretty modeling ran like dog shit on consoles and taxed everything but the best PC's. Yea.

Oh boy here we go. People are crazy.

More than crazy. I really feel like a lot of these folks were just waiting for these screens so they could go on a hyperbolic crit bender.

You couldn't find a screen shot from the actual console version?

gta 5 on ps3 looks better than this.

pass

No it didn't.

If those screenshots were from an Ubisoft game, this thread would be 300 pages long.

Bethesda never pretended their game looked anything that it was not. You're reaching here.

Consider how the PS3 versions of their games turn out I am hopping it atleast runs well.

I'm starting to doubt they exist.

I imagine they ran into technical issues on last-gen and just decided to port the game to current-gen, got the game running at 1080p, and called it a day.

It's their biggest problem, it directly affects gameplay and it's very annoying.

I can see post processing effects in the screenshots. We can see shadows too. It's bullshit

Given the length of this thread in such a short period of time, I expected much worse. And it should look better on PC but vanilla Sktrim didn't have some mysterious day night difference and I loved that on PC. Console players will be fine.

better graphics?

gameplay is the king for sure. but is not an excuse for a billion dollar company make these shitty graphics.
when demons souls was released people were okay with the graphics because of the budget of the game and since then from has improved the graphics for every souls games.

Yup, we're totally in agreement. I was just saying that the look of something is equally important to how it plays. Cars, food, games, clothes, etc. The experience is a culmination of the looks/function/quality.

Not at console settings, far from it. Otherwise how surprising is it that much higher rendering settings are more expensive ?

Your argument is very strange.

Why spend money and time making it look nice when the modding community will do that for you and you can profit from each mod sale?
You know mods are free right? They even stated it in a press conference. Hate in this thread is awful.

The screenshots remind me very heavily of State of Decay on PC with the settings cranked up.

I'd be playing this on PC anyways (no PS4 anyways + Bethesda game, always go PC!) but I'm a little surprised at the final fidelity for PS4. There are some individual aspects that look good (like in the gas station shots) but a lot of bits that look rather poor and the whole thing seems to have a vaseline filter over top of it (unless that's just the compression). To me at least it's not a huge deal, especially if some HQ graphics mods get made for PC, but on whole it's a little disappointing they couldn't do better.

Hopefully the game itself is at the level of New Vegas.

Nah the wolf is in game. It was also an incredibly empty game with very little going on outside of some isolated areas.
Not sure why people are trying to take away from MGSV as if theres an argument over which is more impressive. I doubt Fallout will have a fight with a giant robot, helicopters and explosions and weather effects everywhere while maintaining a rock solid 60 fps. Heck, I just looked up Phantom Pain ps3 and it doesnt look much worse than Fallout 4 even.

Well, this is all speculation of course, but for me the most severe issues in these shots are draw distance, shadows and AO, followed by the blurry IQ.

These are also things that Bethesda PC games traditionally have a large range of options for on PC from day one. And IQ can always be fixed by throwing power at it.

(Of course, people will probably complain about the PC version, since I expect it to run best with 12+ GB of memory. It's Bethesda's first 64 bit game after all)
