If we're taking shows, Cowboy Bebop is the only one I've watched that didn't make me want to shut it off immediately. Samurai Champloo is okay, but it didn't do it for me the same way.

I should probably try some other shows at some point.

If we're talking movies, it's just going to be a shit-ton of Ghibli stuff.

Cowboy Bebop
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Outlaw Star
Paranoia Agent

Can't decide on the fifth. I feel like I should have a movie in there. Either Akira or Perfect Blue.

What do you get the man who has everything.

Monster is worth watching, as for movies, Perfect Blue.

I'm really impressed with your tastes! Nobody ever talks about Urusei Yatsura, and I'd argue its one of Rumiko Takahashi's best works, if not the best! Lum is such a lovable character.

Indeed! I've always liked Lum(and by extension, Urusei Yatsura) a lot. I even have this little doozy shamelessly posed on a bookshelf.

There should be more tampons in gaming
1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Trigun
3. Gundam (nearly any/all)
4. Blue Gender
5. Outlaw Star

There's so many others but these have had a profound effect on my life and thinking

That's generally difficult for me to balance and will depend on what comes to mind immediately, for the most part. If I could do a top 10 it'd be a bit easily to balance.

In no particular order
Shows:
Monster
Paranoia Agent
FLCL
Kino's Journey
Serial Experiments Lain

Though, again, my opinions on best anime show vary and there are many more I could easily exchange in this top 5 list. That being said, I haven't bothered with much of any anime in years either.

Movies:
Satoshi Kon's Entire Filmography (don't make me debate this, it's impossible, the man is a genius, all his movies are the best anime movie)

Tekkon Kinkreet

Grave of The Fireflies

The Sky Crawlers

Makoto Shinkai's Entire Filmography (probably my second favorite anime movie director. he's up there for me anyway.)

Not a single LOGH mention. I want to throw up.

Bebop
Berserk (cause the manga is just so good that even a mediocre adaptation is great)
Legend of Galactic Heroes
Mushishi
Patlabor TV

Honorable mentions : GITS:SAC and Ping Pong

Gurren Lagann
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Shamploo
Jojo's Bizzarre Adventure
Neon Genesis Evangelion (Because everything was too upbeat)

I have also gotten into Durarara recently, enjoying it so far.

Kind of hard to narrow it down to 5. This would probably change daily, but at the moment I feel like saying...

FLCL
Cowboy Bebop
Beck
Planetes
Wolf's Rain

Those are the ones that I feel have left the biggest impressions on me, right now. Also a few others I had in consideration for the top 5

Trigun
Code Geass
Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Mushishi
Great Teacher Onizuka
Monster
Witch Hunter Robin

Don't have a top list because ever changing tastes and favorites and all that but here's the five that I liked the most in the last few years.

- Jojo's Bizarre Adventures
- Nichijou
- Bakemonogatari
- Kara no Kyoukai(movie series but whatever)
- Only Yesterday(another movie)

1. FLCL
2. Samurai champloo
3. Cowboy bebop
4. GITS SAC
5. Planetes

I dunno, my top anime are all kinda interchangeable, Mushishi, denno coil, moribito, kino's journey and a lot more are deserving of a top 5 spot.

1. Planetes
2. Death Note
3. DragonBall Z
4. Love Hina
5. Pokémon

If films count, then I am partial to every Ghibli film I've watched. Ocean Waves, Mononoke, The Witch, Totoro, Fireflies and Spirited Away.

Seeing as you have Planetes on your list, I will check out every other anime on your list. A man who lists Planetes is a man to be trusted.
1. Higurashi no naku
2. Steins;Gate
. Love Hina
.Disappearance of Haruhi
.Usagi Drops

And a fellow Love Hina fan yay!
Planetes
Mushishi

It kinda changes for me ever now and then but what i am currently really like and come back to are these:

Haibane Renmai
Hunter x Hunter2011
Nichijou
Watamote
Last Exile/ Record of Lodoss War/ Aria the animation/ Kinos journey/ Vision of escaflown/ Spice and Wolf (Depending on my mood Aria for example is only when i am really lazy and relaxed :-D)

Hate to be that guy, but have you read the Manga? The anime is, like, half the story, and ends at a really annoying point....you haven't even seen the Zeppelin yet!

I haven't, but thanks for the shout.

I know Planetes has a lot more interesting stuff later on in the manga than where the anime ends as well.

1. Hunter X Hunter (2011)
2. Attack on Titan
3. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
4. Fate/Zero & Fate/Stay Night (2014)
5. Avatar: The Last Airbender

Though truth be told, HxH is really in a class of its own. The variety in the arcs astounded me, and I've never seen a TV show (anime or otherwise) that had such huge tonal shifts between arcs. You really got the sense that it could be any kind of show that it wanted to be.

Nickle

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
Death Note
Oregairu first season
Ghost Stories
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Code Geass

1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes

2. Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

3. Perfect Blue

4. Monster

5. Fate/Zero or Full Metal Alchemist or Yu Yu Hakusho whatever it changes.

There are other stuff like Berserk and Hunter x Hunter that could've been up there but they don't have endings so fuck em. And I want to mention School Days as the best comedy and Shiki for best final episodes ever.

1. Clannad
2. Fate/Zero
3. Hajime no Ippo
4. Black Lagoon
5. Code Geass

Honourable Mentions - Hunter X Hunter (90s version), Fate/Stay Night - Season 1 (UFOtable version), Honey and Clover, Great Teacher Onizuka, Nodame Cantabile, Darker than Black - Season 1, Gintama, One Outs, Bakemonogatari, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.

5. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
4. Angel Beats
3. Samurai Champloo
2. Cowboy Bebop
1. Clannad (including After Story of course)

I love KyoAni more than any other studio. Clannad is possibly my favorite TV show regardless of medium. Just beautiful and touches on so many realities from high school till adult life. I don't know, I just love it so much.

Edit: Whoops. I forgot to include Welcome To the NHK. That may actually be my number 2

Oh god I forgot about K-On!
I will have to revise my list
