This is a pretty difficult question to answer for me, I've watched tons and tons of anime and there's just so many amazing ones that are worth mentioning, anyways, here's my list:

3. Space Brothers
4. Ojamajo Doremi

Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Off the top of my head. Not 100% sure about the last two.

Just started watching anime again after 8 years, so my list is barebones.

1. Detective Conan
2. Attack on Titan
3. One Punch Man
4. Inuyasha
5. Yu-Gi-Oh!

The last two are placement fillers; I recall watching them, but looking back, man were they terrible.

Cowboy Bebop, Berserk, Hajime no Ippo, Trigun, and DBZ.
I'll stress favorite with DBZ. I adore it, but nostalgia is a hell of a condiment. Anything else I would recommend to anyone.

Aureon

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
FMA: Brotherhood
Code Geass
Shirobako
Steins;Gate
Shin Sekai Yori

I really need to watch Space Brothers. Sounds like it would be right up my alley given my love of late 90s sci-fi and shows that don't rigidly conform to a static one or two cours release structure.

I've been sitting on Baccano!, too. Need to get on that.

As for my own Top 5... man, I haven't thrown one of these together in an eternity...
- BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad
- Infinite Ryvius
- Marmalade Boy
- Planetes

And... ummm... I'm stumped. If you want something modern, Your Lie in April. If you want the honest answer, anything worked on by Chiaki Konaka. My movie recommendations are all going to be predictable claptrap like Spirited Away. That said, I have watched The Boy and the Beast and it's damn fine. Look forward to it.

5. Cowboy Bebop
4. Azumanga Daioh
3. Kids on the Slope
2. Blue Seed
1. Neon Genesis Evangelion (+end of Eva)

I feel like it's pure nostalgia driving my love for Blue Seed at this point, but I'm too afraid to rewatch it and see if it's actually really shitty :/

I grew up with Toonami and feel like some of answers are lame and cliche.

- Dragon Ball Z
- Cowboy Bebop
- Gundam Wing

Outside of Toonami:

- Death Note
- Steins Gate

There are tons of others I saw on Toonami and outside of it, it's actually not easy to pick a top 5 at all. In fact I feel like my top 5 would change on any given day. Hellsing Ultimate, Yuyu Hakusho, Trigun, Outlaw Star, FMA: Brotherhood, Evangelion, Gungrave, Code Geass... I liked them all a lot.

Steins;Gate
Welcome to the N.H.K.
Monster
Mushishi
FMA: Brotherhood

Honorable Mentions:
Nodame Cantabile
Toradora
Nana
Hyouka
Usagi Drop

1. Psycho-Pass
2. Fullmetal Alchemsit: Brotherhood
3. Samurai Champloo
4. Baccano
5. Fate/Zero

2-5 can be rearranged but Psycho-Pass is definitely number 1.

Why do you limit this to 5, why you do this to me? I'm going to completely disregard it because it's too hard and think of the ones that come to mind for now in particular order.

- Dragon Ball series: Got me into anime which then got me into manga. The most influential series. Thank you for getting me into anime Toriyama.
- Yu Yu Hakusho: Absolutely adored this series and is undeniable better HxH. Togashi's best work. This is a fact, never to be disputed by opinion or preference. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
- Cowboy Bebop: The coolest anime ever. Spike is also one of the coolest characters ever. It ended in one hell of a bang Watanabe, one of the best endings in a fictional story.
- Slam Dunk: Inoue, man I love this guy. Besides being a disgustingly good illustrator, he knows how to tell a story. Started reading R.E.A.L. just recently, fantastic so far. Slam Dunk is the greatest fictional sport story ever told.
- Errr.. I can't do it. From Oda's amazing One Piece, to Hajime No Ippo!, to Major!, to Death Note, to Code Geass, to D-Gray Man, to Rouroni Kenshin, to Monster. Looking at people's list, Akira is a movie. It counts? Because that as well if it does.

It's too difficult to pick 5. You will likely get a different answer if you ask me this question once a month. :\
