TV/OVA:

Eva (Turns out this is the only actual TV anime I've watched)
Gunbuster
Diebuster
FLCL
She and Her Cat

(Other than Eva the rest is no particular order)

Honorable TV/OVA:

Voices of a Distant Star

Movies:

End of Evangelion
5 Centimeters per Second
The Garden of Words
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Dead Leaves

(Other than End of Evangelion the rest is no particular order)

Honorable Movies:

Dareka no Manazashi

As you can see I haven't watched much. And pretty much everything I've seen has been either Gainax or Makoto Shinkai stuff, except Dead Leaves (Production IG, which has close ties to Gainax anyways :p). I only really started watching in August of this year tho. I did see some episodes of DBZ, Pokemon, and one Pokemon movie when I was a kid, but I don't really remember anything except the PokeRap. :p

Actually, let's just use an image of my 21 favorite anime.

Choosing my top 5 would be something akin to:

1. ARIA the Origination
The third and last season of ARIA, cherished by those who've seen or read it as the king of slice of life. It's an incredibly relaxing anime and not for everyone, but those who do come to enjoy it tend fall in love with everything it represents.

2. Toradora
A great romantic dramedy that instead of delving into clichés uses them to its strength and build relatable characters that go far beyond stereotypes (if you call Taiga a tsundere you've missed the entire point). It was also one of the earlier anime I saw as I was getting back into the medium. To me, Toradora reminds me of Christmas.

3. Natsume Yuujinchou
Four seasons that are generally episodic, though each season covers a specific theme related to Natsume's growth as a person. It's about Natsume who can see yokais, Japanese spirits, and how he interacts with them. It's a feel-good anime and oddly many think of it as a lighter Mushishi.

4. Eureka Seven
50 episodes that are actually properly used in order to tell an everchanging story? Great music, directing, animation, style and everything? That's Eureka Seven. I loved it just as much on the second rewatch. Giant robots surfing in the sky has never been better.

5. Pale Cocoon
One episode. Also one of the earlier works by Yasuhiro Yoshiura, which some might know from Time of Eve or Patema Inverted. I'm not going to say much as it's truly a great experienced in merely 24 minutes. Go watch it, really. It's sci-fi-esque where people look through history in digital archives.

I'm heavily biased towards more lighthearted and personal stuff as that tends to stay with me the most long after finishing it. That doesn't mean I dislike other things, though.

  1. FLCL - My top pick because I can watch it every time and come away with learning something new that I never really understood until much later.
  2. Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Zoku - Both seasons are godtier, but the second season just absolutely nails it with great characters in a typical setting but making it feel so fresh.
  3. Kyousougiga - One of the most underrated shows I've seen in a long, long time. Great art style, very interesting story.
  4. Aku no Hana - Probably because I never experienced the manga (and maybe because this feels like me being a hipster), the Aku no Hana anime is something I really enjoyed during its run despite how many people disliked it for its stylistic choices.
  5. Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou - I have never had an anime make me laugh so hard to the point where I swear I was about to die. This show is just amazing through and through.

Of course, this list is variable and can change at a moment's notice.

  1. Girls Bravo
  2. Seikon no Qwaser
  3. OreImo S2
  4. Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid
  5. Sword Art Online

The Filler arcs are also garbage most of the time. Like the Chunin Exams in Suna...
Main villain just comits suicide, because Gaara said something.
It felt like they ended it abruptly, because people were mad about 4 months of Fillers.

It's pretty sad, because the main story is on such high quality, that the Fillers really don't do the show any justice.

I stopped over 2 years because of them, fucking kangaroo's and shit....
And yes, the main story is awesome, i like Naruto.
BTW does anybody know, when the series is finished. Shipuuden i mean.
The final fight is going on right now, right?
Also, filler till at least 12.10.2015 :-/

2. Dragonball Z
3. Berserk
4. Ninja Scroll
5. Death Note

He gonna cry in the car
1. DBZ [Funi Dub] - This is purely nostalgia. But it is childhood-shaping and nothing will ever replace it no matter how great that show may be.
2. Samurai Champloo - Absolutely gorgeous animation, fantastic overall and introduced me to my favorite producer of all time (R.I.P. Nujabes)
3. Monster - Incredible psychological thriller
4. Death Note - While, in hindsight it wasn't as great as my first watch indicated, it was a godly first watch and super fun...this was my first foray into non-action/shounen anime
5. Gurren Lagenn - Just amazing. Not really a spoiler:
That ending, though. -_-

What I haven't watched and need to watch because I think they could go on this list:

Cowboy Bebop (I'm going to this holiday season when I have time)

Yu Yu Hakusho (I started it when I was younger but never got through more than 20 episodes - I think I'd appreciate it more now anyway)

FMA

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Spirited Away, Millennium Actress, Revolutionary Girl Utena, The Wind Rises.

I don't know if that's actually my top five, but those were five that sprang to mind.

This is a pretty difficult question to answer for me, I've watched tons and tons of anime and there's just so many amazing ones that are worth mentioning, anyways, here's my list:

1. Shirobako
2. Heartcatch Precure
3. Space Brothers
4. Ojamajo Doremi
5. Gundam Build Fighters

End of Evangelion
Ping Pong the Animation
Space Battleship Yamato 2199
Code Geass (fight me)
Jin-Roh The Wolf Brigade

For good measure five more

Gintama
Monogatari Second Season
Kaiji
Gundam Build Fighters
Armored Trooper VOTOMS

1. Hellsing Ultimate - It'll be very difficult to remove this one from my top spot. Just a great story, great development, great action.

2. Gurren Lagann - I'm actually re-watching this right now, and it's just as good as it was the first time. Break-neck pacing and it actually makes me feel good as a person after some of the episodes, it's borderline inspirational.

3. Berserk - Golden Age was one of my favorite anime arcs of all time, I really wish they'd make more seasons, as I hate reading Manga, but I'd love to know what happens.

4. Trigun - JYB's best role, really good story, love the setting.

5. Hunter X Hunter - Just watched this in its entirety recently. I am mostly over Shounen stories, but this one was so well done. Subverted expectations a lot, and got thought provoking during the Chimera Ant arc.
